| 1 | Then Jesus six days before the passover came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, which had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. | Gesù dunque, sei giorni prima della Pasqua, si recò a Betania dove abitava Lazzaro, colui che era morto e che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti. |

| 7 | Then said Jesus, Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this. | Gesù dunque disse: Lasciala; essa l'aveva conservato per il giorno della mia sepoltura. |
| 8 | For the poor always ye have with you; but me ye have not always. | I poveri infatti li avete sempre con voi, ma non sempre avete me. |
| 9 | Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. | Intanto una grande folla di Giudei seppe che egli era là, e venne non solo a motivo di Gesù, ma anche per vedere Lazzaro che egli aveva risuscitato dai morti. |
| 10 | But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death; | Or i capi dei sacerdoti deliberarono di far morire anche Lazzaro, |
| 11 | Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus. | perché a motivo di lui molti lasciavano i Giudei e credevano in Gesù, |
| 12 | On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, | Il giorno seguente, una grande folla che era venuta alla festa, udito che Gesù veniva a Gerusalemme, |
| 13 | Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. | prese dei rami di palme e uscì incontro a lui, gridando: Osanna! Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore, il re d'Israele!. |
| 14 | And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, | E Gesù, trovato un asinello, vi montò sopra come sta scritto: |
| 15 | Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt. | Non temere, o figlia di Sion; ecco, il tuo re viene, cavalcando un puledro d'asina. |
| 16 | These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him. | Or i suoi discepoli non compresero sul momento queste cose, ma quando Gesù fu glorificato, allora si ricordarono che queste cose erano state scritte di lui e che avevano fatte queste cose a lui. |
| 17 | The people therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave, and raised him from the dead, bare record. | La folla dunque, che era con lui quando aveva chiamato Lazzaro fuori dal sepolcro e l'aveva risuscitato dai morti, gli rendeva testimonianza. |
| 18 | For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle. | Perciò la folla gli andò incontro, perché aveva udito che egli aveva fatto questo segno. |
| 19 | The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Perceive ye how ye prevail nothing? behold, the world is gone after him. | I farisei allora dissero tra di loro: Vedete che non guadagnate nulla; ecco, il mondo gli va dietro. |
| 20 | And there were certain Greeks among them that came up to worship at the feast: | Or tra quelli che erano saliti ad adorare a durante la festa c'erano alcuni Greci, |
| 21 | The same came therefore to Philip, which was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus. | Costoro dunque, accostatisi a Filippo, che era di Betsaida di Galilea, lo pregarono dicendo: Signore, vorremmo vedere Gesù. |
| 22 | Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus. | Filippo andò a dirlo ad Andrea; a loro volta, Andrea e Filippo lo dissero a Gesù. |
| 23 | And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified. | Ma Gesù rispose loro, dicendo: l'ora è venuta, in cui il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere glorificato. |
| 24 | Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. | In verità, in verità vi dico: Se il granel di frumento caduto in terra non muore, rimane solo; ma se muore, produce molto frutto. |
| 25 | He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. | Chi ama la sua vita la perderà, e chi odia la sua vita in questo mondo la conserverà per la vita eterna. |
| 26 | If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. | Se uno mi serve, mi segua; e là dove sono io, là sarà anche il mio servo; se uno mi serve, il Padre l'onorerà. |
| 27 | Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. | Ora l'anima mia è turbata; e che dirò: Padre, salvami da quest'ora? Ma per questo io sono giunto a quest'ora. |
| 28 | Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again. | Padre, glorifica il tuo nome!. Allora venne una voce dal cielo: l'ho glorificato e lo glorificherò ancora. |
| 29 | The people therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it thundered: others said, An angel spake to him. | La folla dunque, che era presente e aveva udito la voce, diceva che era stato un tuono. Altri dicevano: Un angelo gli ha parlato. |
| 30 | Jesus answered and said, This voice came not because of me, but for your sakes. | E Gesù rispose e disse: Questa voce non è venuta per me, ma per voi. |
| 31 | Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out. | Ora è il giudizio di questo mondo ora sarà cacciato fuori il principe di questo mondo. |
| 32 | And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. | Ed io, quando sarò innalzato dalla terra, attirerò tutti a me. |
| 33 | This he said, signifying what death he should die. | Or egli diceva questo, per indicare di qual morte egli doveva morire. |
| 34 | The people answered him, We have heard out of the law that Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man? | La folla gli rispose: Noi abbiamo appreso dalla legge che il Cristo rimane in eterno; ora come puoi tu dire che il Figlio dell'uomo deve essere innalzato? Chi è questo Figlio dell'uomo?. |
| 35 | Then Jesus said unto them, Yet a little while is the light with you. Walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth. | Gesù allora disse loro: La luce è con voi ancora per un po'; camminate mentre avete la luce, affinché non vi sorprendano le tenebre; chi cammina nelle tenebre non sa dove va. |
| 36 | While ye have light, believe in the light, that ye may be the children of light. These things spake Jesus, and departed, and did hide himself from them. | Mentre avete la luce, credete nella luce, affinché diventiate figli di luce. Queste cose disse Gesù; poi se ne andò e si nascose da loro. |
| 37 | But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him: | Sebbene avesse fatto tanti segni davanti a loro, non credevano in lui, |
| 38 | That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? | affinché si adempisse la parola detta dal profeta Isaia: Signore, chi ha creduto alla nostra predicazione? E a chi è stato rivelato il braccio del Signore?. |
| 39 | Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, | Perciò non potevano credere, perché Isaia disse ancora: |
| 40 | He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them. | Egli ha accecato i loro occhi e ha indurito il loro cuore, perché non vedano con gli occhi, non intendano col cuore, non si convertano e io non li guarisca. |
| 41 | These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him. | Queste cose disse Isaia, quando vide la sua gloria e parlò di lui. |
| 42 | Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: | Tuttavia, anche tra i capi, molti credettero in lui; ma a motivo dei farisei non lo confessavano, per non essere espulsi dalla sinagoga, |
| 43 | For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God. | perché amavano la gloria degli uomini più della gloria di Dio. |
| 44 | Jesus cried and said, He that believeth on me, believeth not on me, but on him that sent me. | Or Gesù gridò e disse: Chi crede in me, non crede in me, ma in colui che mi ha mandato. |
| 45 | And he that seeth me seeth him that sent me. | E chi vede me, vede colui che mi ha mandato. |
| 46 | I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. | Io sono venuto come luce per il mondo, affinché chiunque crede in me non resti nelle tenebre. |
| 47 | And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. | E se uno ode le mie parole e non crede, io non lo giudico; perché io non sono venuto a giudicare il mondo, ma a salvare il mondo. |
| 48 | He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day. | Chi mi respinge e non accoglie le mie parole, ha chi lo giudica; la parola che ho annunziata sarà quella che lo giudicherà nell'ultimo giorno. |
| 49 | For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. | Perché io non ho parlato da me stesso, ma il Padre stesso mi ha mandato e mi ha comandato ciò che io devo dire ed annunziare. |
| 50 | And I know that his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. | Ed io so che il suo comandamento è vita eterna; le cose dunque che io dico le dico così come il Padre me le ha dette. |
