Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha. Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister Martha.
(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)And it was that Mary who anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.
Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick. The sisters therefore sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.
When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. But when Jesus heard it, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified thereby.E Gesù, udito ciò, disse: Questa malattia non è a morte, ma per la gloria di Dio, affinché per mezzo di essa il Figlio di Dio sia glorificato.
Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus. Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.Or Gesù amava Marta, sua sorella e Lazzaro.
When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was. When therefore he heard that he was sick, he abode at that time two days in the place where he was.
Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judaea again. Then after this he saith to the disciples, Let us go into Judaea again.
His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again? The disciples say unto him, Rabbi, the Jews were but now seeking to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?I discepoli gli dissero: Maestro, i Giudei poco fa cercavano di lapidarti e tu vai di nuovo là?.
Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.
But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because the light is not in him.ma se uno cammina di notte, inciampa, perché la luce non è in lui.
These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep. These things spake he: and after this he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus is fallen asleep; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.
Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well. The disciples therefore said unto him, Lord, if he is fallen asleep, he will recover.
Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep. Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep.
Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead. Then Jesus therefore said unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.Allora Gesù disse loro apertamente: Lazzaro è morto.
And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already. So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;Or Betania distava da Gerusalemme circa quindici stadi.
And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.E molti Giudei erano venuti da Marta e Maria per consolarle del loro fratello.
Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary still sat in the house.Marta dunque, come udì che Gesù veniva, gli andò incontro; Maria invece stava seduta in casa.
Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.Martha therefore said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee. And even now I know that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee.ma anche adesso so che tutto quello che chiederai a Dio, Dio te lo darà.
Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.Gesù le disse: Tuo fratello risusciterà.
Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.Marta gli disse: Lo so che risusciterà nella risurrezione all'ultimo giorno.
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live;Gesù le disse: Io sono la risurrezione e la vita; chiunque crede in me, anche se dovesse morire, vivrà.
And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?E chiunque vive e crede in me, non morrà mai in eterno. Credi tu questo?.
She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world. She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, [even] he that cometh into the world.
And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee. And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Teacher is her, and calleth thee.E, detto questo, andò a chiamare di nascosto Maria, sua sorella, dicendo: Il Maestro è qui e ti chiama.
As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.And she, when she heard it, arose quickly, and went unto him.
Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.(Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.)Or Gesù non era ancora giunto nel villaggio, ma si trovava nel luogo dove Marta lo aveva incontrato.
The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there. The Jews then who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going unto the tomb to weep there.
Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.Mary therefore, when she came where Jesus was, and saw him, fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled. When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews [also] weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,Gesù allora, come vide che lei e i Giudei che erano venuti con lei piangevano, fremé nello spirito e si turbò,
And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.and said, Where have ye laid him? They say unto him, Lord, come and see.e disse: Dove l'avete posto?. Essi gli dissero: Signore, vieni e vedi.
Jesus wept.Jesus wept.Gesù pianse.
Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!The Jews therefore said, Behold how he loved him!Dissero allora i Giudei: Vedi come l'amava!.
And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died? But some of them said, Could not this man, who opened the eyes of him that was blind, have caused that this man also should not die?
Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.Perciò Gesù, fremendo di nuovo in se stesso, venne al sepolcro; or questo era una grotta davanti alla quale era stata posta una pietra.
Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.Jesus saith, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time the body decayeth; for he hath been [dead] four days.
Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou believedst, thou shouldest see the glory of God?Gesù le disse: Non ti ho detto che se credi, vedrai la gloria di Dio?.
Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me.Essi dunque tolsero la pietra dal luogo dove giaceva il morto. Gesù allora alzati in alto gli occhi, disse: Padre, ti ringrazio che mi hai esaudito.
And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.lo sapevo bene che tu mi esaudisci sempre, ma ho detto ciò per la folla che sta attorno, affinché credano che tu mi hai mandato.
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.E, detto questo, gridò a gran voce: Lazzaro, vieni fuori!.
And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.Allora il morto uscì, con le mani e i piedi legati con fasce e con la faccia avvolta in un asciugatoio. Gesù disse loro: Scioglietelo e lasciatelo andare.
Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him. Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld that which he did, believed on him.
But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done. But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.
Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles. The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs. Quest'uomo fa molti segni.
If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation. If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.
And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,Ma uno di loro, Caiafa, che era sommo sacerdote in quell'anno, disse loro: Voi non capite nulla;
Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.e non considerate che conviene per noi che un sol uomo muoia per il popolo e non perisca tutta la nazione.
And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation; Now this he said not of himself: but, being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;Or egli non disse questo da se stesso; ma, essendo sommo sacerdote in quell'anno, profetizzò che Gesù doveva morire per la nazione,
And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.e non solo per la nazione, ma anche per raccogliere in uno i figli di Dio dispersi.
Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death. So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death.
Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed thence into the country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim; and there he tarried with the disciples.
And the Jews' passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves. Now the passover of the Jews was at hand: and many went up to Jerusalem out of the country before the passover, to purify themselves.
Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast? They sought therefore for Jesus, and spake one with another, as they stood in the temple, What think ye? That he will not come to the feast?
Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had given commandment, that, if any man knew where he was, he should show it, that they might take him.
