| 1 | La Loi, en effet, n'ayant qu'une ombre des biens à venir, et non l'image même des choses, ne peut jamais, par ces mêmes sacrifices que l'on offre sans interruption chaque année, sanctifier parfaitement ceux qui s'en approchent. | For the law having a shadow of the good [things] to come, not the very image of the things, can never with the same sacrifices year by year, which they offer continually, make perfect them that draw nigh. |
| 2 | Autrement n'aurait-on pas cessé de les offrir; car ceux qui rendent ce culte, une foi purifiés, n'auraient plus eu aucune conscience de leurs péchés. | Else would they not have ceased to be offered? because the worshippers, having been once cleansed, would have had no more consciousness of sins. |
| 3 | Tandis que, par ces sacrifices, on rappelle chaque année le souvenir des péchés ; | But in those [sacrifices] there is a remembrance made of sins year by year. |

| 7 | Alors j'ai dit : Me voici (car il est question de moi dans le rouleau du livre), je viens ô Dieu, pour faire votre volonté." | Then said I, Lo, I am come (In the roll of the book it is written of me) To do thy will, O God. |
| 8 | Après avoir commencé par dire : "Vous n'avez voulu et vous n'avez agréé ni ablations, ni holocaustes, ni sacrifices pour le péché ", - toutes choses qu'on offre selon la Loi, | Saying above, Sacrifices and offerings and whole burnt offerings and [sacrifices] for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein (the which are offered according to the law), |

| 12 | lui au contraire, après avoir offert un seul sacrifice pour les péchés, "s'est assis "Pour toujours "à la droite de Dieu " | but he, when he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; |

| 15 | C'est ce que l'Esprit-Saint nous atteste aussi; car, après avoir dit : | And the Holy Spirit also beareth witness to us; for after he hath said, |
| 16 | "Voici l'alliance que je ferai avec eux après ces jours-là ", le Seigneur ajoute : Je mettrai mes lois dans leurs coeurs, et je les écrirai dans leur esprit ; | This is the covenant that I will make with them After those days, saith the Lord: I will put my laws on their heart, And upon their mind also will I write them; [then saith he,] |

| 19 | Ainsi donc, frères, puisque nous avons, par le sang de Jésus un libre accès dans le sanctuaire, | Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holy place by the blood of Jesus, |
| 20 | par la voie nouvelle et vivante, qu'Il a inaugurée, pour nous à travers le voile, c'est-à-dire à travers sa chair, | by the way which he dedicated for us, a new and living way, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; |
| 21 | et puisque nous avons un grand prêtre établi sur la maison de Dieu, | and [having] a great priest over the house of God; |
| 22 | approchons-nous avec un coeur sincère, dans la plénitude de la foi, le coeur purifié des souillures d'une mauvaise conscience, et le corps lavé dans une eau pure. | let us draw near with a true heart in fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience: and having our body washed with pure water, |
| 23 | Restons inébranlablement attachés à la profession de notre espérance; car celui qui a fait la promesse est fidèle. | let us hold fast the confession of our hope that it waver not; for he is faithful that promised: |
| 24 | Ayons l'oeil ouvert les uns sur les autres pour nous exciter à la charité et aux bonnes oeuvres. | and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and good works; |
| 25 | Ne désertons pas notre assemblée, comme quelques-uns ont coutume de le faire; mais exhortons-nous les uns les autres, et cela d'autant plus que vous voyez s'approcher le jour. | not forsaking our own assembling together, as the custom of some is, but exhorting [one another]; and so much the more, as ye see the day drawing nigh. |
| 26 | Car si nous péchons volontairement après avoir reçu la connaissance de la vérité, il ne reste plus de sacrifice pour les péchés; | For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more a sacrifice for sins, |
| 27 | il n'y a plus qu'à attendre un jugement terrible et le feu jaloux qui dévorera les rebelles. | but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which shall devour the adversaries. |
| 28 | Celui qui a violé la loi de Moïse meurt sans miséricorde, sur la déposition de deux ou, trois témoins; | A man that hath set at nought Moses law dieth without compassion on [the word of] two or three witnesses: |
| 29 | de quel châtiment plus sévère pensez-vous que sera jugé digne celui qui aura foulé aux pieds le Fils de Dieu, qui aura tenu pour profane le sang de l'alliance par lequel il avait été sanctifié, et qui aura outragé l'Esprit de la grâce ? | of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? |
| 30 | Car nous le connaissons, celui qui a dit : "A moi la vengeance ! c'est moi qui paierai de retour!"Et encore : Le "Seigneur jugera son peuple." | For we know him that said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. |
| 31 | Il est effroyable de tomber entre les mains du Dieu vivant! | It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. |
| 32 | Rappelez-vous ces premiers jours, où, après avoir été éclairés, vous avez soutenu un grand combat de souffrances, tantôt exposés comme en spectacle aux opprobres et aux tribulations, | But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were enlightened, ye endured a great conflict of sufferings; |
| 33 | tantôt prenant part aux maux de ceux qui étaient ainsi traités. | partly, being made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, becoming partakers with them that were so used. |
| 34 | En effet, vous avez compati aux prisonniers, et vous avez accepté avec joie le pillage de vos biens, sachant que vous avez. une richesse meilleure et qui durera toujours. | For ye both had compassion on them that were in bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of you possessions, knowing that ye have for yourselves a better possession and an abiding one. |
| 35 | N'abandonnez donc pas votre assurance; une grande récompense y est attachée. | Cast not away therefore your boldness, which hath great recompense of reward. |
| 36 | Car la persévérance vous est nécessaire afin que, après avoir fait la volonté de Dieu, vous obteniez ce qui vous est promis. | For ye have need of patience, that, having done the will of God, ye may receive the promise. |
| 37 | Encore un peu, bien peu de temps et "celui qui doit venir viendra; il ne tardera pas. | For yet a very little while, He that cometh shall come, and shall not tarry. |
| 38 | Et mon juste vivra par la foi ; mais, s'il se retire, mon âme ne mettra pas sa complaisance en lui." | But my righteous one shall live by faith: And if he shrink back, my soul hath no pleasure in him. |
| 39 | Pour nous, nous ne sommes pas de ceux qui se retirent pour leur perte, mais de ceux qui gardent la foi pour sauver leur âme. | But we are not of them that shrink back unto perdition; but of them that have faith unto the saving of the soul. |
