| 1 | Or il arriva après ces choses que l'on vint dire à Joseph: Voici, ton père est malade; et il prit avec lui ses deux fils, Manassé et Ephraïm. | And it came to pass after these things, that one said to Joseph, Behold, thy father is sick: and he took with him his two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. |
| 2 | Et on fit savoir à Jacob, et on lui dit: Voici Joseph ton fils qui vient vers toi. Alors Israël s'efforça, et se mit en son séant sur le lit. | And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy son Joseph cometh unto thee: and Israel strengthened himself, and sat upon the bed. |
| 3 | Puis Jacob dit à Joseph: Le Dieu Fort, Tout-Puissant s'est apparu à moi à Lus au pays de Canaan, et m'a béni. | And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, |
| 4 | Et il m'a dit: Voici, je te ferai croître, et multiplier, et je te ferai devenir une assemblée de peuples, et je donnerai ce pays à ta postérité après toi en possession perpétuelle. | and said unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a company of peoples, and will give this land to thy seed after thee for an everlasting possession. |
| 5 | Or maintenant tes deux fils, qui te sont nés au pays d'Egypte, avant que j'y vinsse vers toi, sont miens: Ephraïm et Manassé seront miens comme Ruben et Siméon. | And now thy two sons, who were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine; Ephraim and Manasseh, even as Reuben and Simeon, shall be mine. |
| 6 | Mais les enfants que tu auras après eux, seront à toi, et ils seront appelés selon le nom de leurs frères en leur héritage. | And thy issue, that thou begettest after them, shall be thine; they shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance. |
| 7 | Or, quand je venais de Paddan, Rachel me mourut au pays de Canaan en chemin, n'y ayant plus que quelque petit espace de pays pour arriver à Ephrat; et je l'enterrai là, sur le chemin d'Ephrat, qui est Bethléhem. | And as for me, when I came from Paddan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when there was still some distance to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way to Ephrath (the same is Beth-lehem). |
| 8 | Puis Israël vit les fils de Joseph, et il dit: Qui sont ceux-ci? | And Israel beheld Joseph`s sons, and said, Who are these? |
| 9 | Et Joseph répondit à son père: Ce sont mes fils que Dieu m'a donnés ici; et il dit: Amène-les-moi, je te prie, afin que je les bénisse. | And Joseph said unto his father, They are my sons, whom God hath given me here. And he said, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will bless them. |
| 10 | Or les yeux d'Israël étaient appesantis de vieillesse, et il ne pouvait voir; et il les fit approcher de soi, et les baisa, et les embrassa. | Now the eyes of Israel were dim for age, so that he could not see. And he brought them near unto him; and he kissed them, and embraced them. |
| 11 | Et Israël dit à Joseph: Je ne croyais pas voir jamais ton visage; et voici, Dieu m'a fait voir et toi et tes enfants. | And Israel said unto Joseph, I had not thought to see thy face: and, lo, God hath let me see thy seed also. |
| 12 | Et Joseph les retira d'entre les genoux de son père, et se prosterna le visage contre terre. | And Joseph brought them out from between his knees; and he bowed himself with his face to the earth. |
| 13 | Joseph donc les prit tous deux, et mit Ephraïm à sa droite, à la gauche d'Israël, et Manassé à sa gauche, à la droite d'Israël; et les fît approcher de lui. | And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel`s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel`s right hand, and brought them near unto him. |
| 14 | Et Israël avança sa main droite, et la mit sur la tête d'Ephraïm, qui était le puîné; et sa main gauche sur la tête de Manassé, transposant ainsi ses mains de propos délibéré, car Manassé était l'aîné. | And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim`s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh`s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh was the first-born. |
| 15 | Et il bénit Joseph, en disant: Que le Dieu, devant la face duquel mes pères Abraham et Isaac ont vécu, le Dieu qui me paît depuis que je suis au monde jusqu'à ce jour; | And he blessed Joseph, and said, The God before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God who hath fed me all my life long unto this day, |
| 16 | Que l'Ange qui m'a garanti de tout mal, bénisse ces enfants; et que mon nom et le nom de mes pères Abraham et Isaac soit réclamé sur eux; et qu'ils croissent en nombre comme les poissons, en multipliant sur la terre. | the angel who hath redeemed me from all evil, bless the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth. |
| 17 | Et Joseph voyant que son père mettait sa main droite sur la tête d'Ephraïm, en eut du déplaisir, et il souleva la main de son père, pour la détourner de dessus la tête d'Ephraïm sur la tête de Manassé. | And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him: and he held up his father`s hand, to remove it from Ephraim`s head unto Manasseh`s head. |
| 18 | Et Joseph dit à son père: Ce n'est pas ainsi, mon père! car celui-ci est l'aîné; mets ta main droite sur sa tête. | And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father; for this is the first-born; put thy right hand upon his head. |
| 19 | Mais son père le refusa en disant: Je le sais, mon fils, je le sais. Celui- ci deviendra aussi un peuple, et même il sera grand; mais toutefois son frère, qui est plus jeune, sera plus grand que lui, et sa postérité sera une multitude de nations. | And his father refused, and said, I know [it], my son, I know [it]. He also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: howbeit his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations. |
| 20 | Et en ce jour-là il les bénit, et dit: Israël bénira prenant exemple en toi, et disant: Dieu te fasse tel qu'Ephraïm et Manassé; et il mit Ephraïm devant Manassé. | And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee will Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh. |
| 21 | Puis Israël dit à Joseph: Voici, je m'en vais mourir, mais Dieu sera avec vous, et vous fera retourner au pays de vos pères. | And Israel said unto Joseph, Behold, I die: but God will be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers. |
| 22 | Et je te donne une portion plus qu'à tes frères, laquelle j'ai prise avec mon épée et mon arc sur les Amorrhéens. | Moreover I have given to thee one portion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow. |
