And Jehovah had respect unto Abel and to his offering: |

And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. |

| 7 | Certainement, si tu agis bien, tu relèveras ton visage, et si tu agis mal, le péché se couche à la porte, et ses désirs se portent vers toi : mais toi, domine sur lui. | Si tu fais bien, ne sera-t-il pas reçu? mais si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché est à la porte; or ses désirs se rapportent à toi, et tu as Seigneurie sur lui. | If thou doest well, shall it not be lifted up? and if thou doest not well, sin coucheth at the door: and unto thee shall be its desire, but do thou rule over it. |
| 8 | Cependant, Caïn adressa la parole à son frère Abel ; mais, comme ils étaient dans les champs, Caïn se jeta sur son frère Abel, et le tua. | Or Caïn parla avec Abel son frère, et comme ils étaient aux champs, Caïn s'éleva contre Abel son frère, et le tua. | And Cain told Abel his brother. And it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. |

Et il lui répondit: Je ne sais, suis-je le gardien de mon frère, moi? | And Jehovah said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: am I my brother`s keeper? |
| 10 | Et Dieu dit : Qu'as-tu fait ? La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre jusqu'à moi. | Et Dieu dit: Qu'as-tu fait? La voix du sang de ton frère crie de la terre à moi. | And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother`s blood crieth unto me from the ground. |

Tu seras errant et vagabond sur la terre. | Quand tu laboureras la terre, elle ne te rendra plus son fruit, et tu seras vagabond et fugitif sur la terre. | when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee its strength; a fugitive and a wanderer shalt thou be in the earth. |
| 13 | Caïn dit à l'Éternel : Mon châtiment est trop grand pour être supporté. | Et Caïn dit à l'Eternel: Ma peine est plus grande que je ne puis porter. | And Cain said unto Jehovah, My punishment is greater than I can bear. |
| 14 | Voici, tu me chasses aujourd'hui de cette terre ; je serai caché loin de ta face, je serai errant et vagabond sur la terre, et quiconque me trouvera me tuera. | Voici, tu m'as chassé aujourd'hui de cette terre-ci, et je serai caché de devant ta face, et serai vagabond et fugitif sur la terre, et il arrivera que quiconque me trouvera, me tuera. | Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the ground; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a wanderer in the earth; and it will come to pass, that whosoever findeth me will slay me. |
| 15 | L'Éternel lui dit : Si quelqu'un tuait Caïn, Caïn serait vengé sept fois. Et l'Éternel mit un signe sur Caïn pour que quiconque le trouverait ne le tuât point. | Et l'Eternel lui dit: C'est pourquoi quiconque tuera Caïn sera puni sept fois davantage. Ainsi l'Eternel mit une marque sur Caïn, afin que quiconque le trouverait, ne le tuât point. | And Jehovah said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And Jehovah appointed a sign for Cain, lest any finding him should smite him. |
| 16 | Puis, Caïn s'éloigna de la face de l'Éternel, et habita dans la terre de Nod, à l'orient d'Éden. | Alors Caïn sortit de devant la face de l'Eternel, et habita au pays de Nod, vers l'Orient d'Héden. | And Cain went out from the presence of Jehovah, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. |
| 17 | Caïn connut sa femme ; elle conçut, et enfanta Hénoc. Il bâtit ensuite une ville, et il donna à cette ville le nom de son fils Hénoc. | Puis Caïn connut sa femme, qui conçut et enfanta Hénoc; et il bâtit une ville, et appela la ville Hénoc, du nom de son fils. | And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch. |
| 18 | Hénoc engendra Irad, Irad engendra Mehujaël, Mehujaël engendra Metuschaël, et Metuschaël engendra Lémec. | Puis Hirad naquit à Hénoc, et Hirad engendra Méhujaël, et Méhujaël engendra Méthusaël, et Méthusaël engendra Lémec. | And unto Enoch was born Irad: and Irad begat Mehujael: and Mehujael begat Methushael; and Methushael begat Lamech. |

| 20 | Ada enfanta Jabal : il fut le père de ceux qui habitent sous des tentes et près des troupeaux. | Et Hada enfanta Jabal, qui fut père de ceux qui demeurent dans les tentes, et des pasteurs. | And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents and [have] cattle. |
| 21 | Le nom de son frère était Jubal : il fut le père de tous ceux qui jouent de la harpe et du chalumeau. | Et le nom de son frère fut Jubal, qui fut père de tous ceux qui touchent le violon et les orgues. | And his brother`s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and pipe. |
| 22 | Tsilla, de son côté, enfanta Tubal Caïn, qui forgeait tous les instruments d'airain et de fer. La soeur de Tubal Caïn était Naama. | Et Tsilla aussi enfanta Tubal-Caïn, qui fut forgeur de toute sorte d'instruments d'airain et de fer; et la soeur de Tubal-Caïn fut Nahama. | And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, the forger of every cutting instrument of brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah. |

J'ai tué un homme pour ma blessure, Et un jeune homme pour ma meurtrissure. | Et Lémec dit à Hada et à Tsilla ses femmes: Femmes de Lémec, entendez ma voix, écoutez ma parole; je tuerai un homme, moi étant blessé, même un jeune homme, moi étant meurtri. | And Lamech said unto his wives: Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: For I have slain a man for wounding me, And a young man for bruising me: |

| 25 | Adam connut encore sa femme ; elle enfanta un fils, et l'appela du nom de Seth, car, dit-elle, Dieu m'a donnée un autre fils à la place d'Abel, que Caïn a tué. | Et Adam connut encore sa femme, qui enfanta un fils, et il appela son nom Seth, car Dieu m'a, dit-il, donné un autre fils au lieu d'Abel, que Caïn a tué. | And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth. For, [said she], God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel; for Cain slew him. |
