| 3 | And Jokshan begat Sheba, and Dedan. And the sons of Dedan were Asshurim, and Letushim, and Leummim. | Et Joksan engendra Séba et Dédan. Et les enfants de Dédan furent Assurim, et Létusim, et Léummim. |
| 4 | And the sons of Midian; Ephah, and Epher, and Hanoch, and Abidah, and Eldaah. All these were the children of Keturah. | Et les enfants de Madian furent Hépha, Hépher, Hanoc, Abidah, Eldaha. Tous ceux-là sont enfants de Kétura. |
| 5 | And Abraham gave all that he had unto Isaac. | Et Abraham donna tout ce qui lui appartenait à Isaac. |
| 6 | But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. | Mais il fit des présents aux fils de ses concubines, et les envoya loin de son fils Isaac, vers l'Orient au pays d'Orient, lui étant encore en vie. |
| 7 | And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. | Et les ans que vécut Abraham furent cent soixante et quinze ans. |
| 8 | Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. | Et Abraham défaillant, mourut dans une heureuse vieillesse, fort âgé, et rassasié de jours, et fut recueilli vers ses peuples. |
| 9 | And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre; | Et Isaac et Ismaël ses fils l'enterrèrent en la caverne de Macpéla, au champ d'Héphron, fils de Tsohar Héthien, qui est vis-à-vis de Mamré. |
| 10 | The field which Abraham purchased of the sons of Heth: there was Abraham buried, and Sarah his wife. | Le champ qu'Abraham avait acheté des Héthiens: là fut enterré Abraham avec Sara sa femme. |
| 11 | And it came to pass after the death of Abraham, that God blessed his son Isaac; and Isaac dwelt by the well Lahairoi. | Or il arriva après la mort d'Abraham, que Dieu bénit Isaac son fils: et Isaac demeurait près du puits du Vivant qui me voit. |
| 12 | Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham's son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah's handmaid, bare unto Abraham: | Ce sont ici les générations d'Ismaël, fils d'Abraham, qu'Agar Egyptienne, servante de Sara, avait enfanté à Abraham. |
| 13 | And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, | Et ce sont ici les noms des enfants d'Ismaël, desquels ils ont été nommés dans leurs générations. Le premier-né d'Ismaël fut Nébajoth, puis Kédar, Adbéel, Mibsam, |
| 14 | And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, | Mismah, Duma, Massa, |
| 15 | Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah: | Hadar, Téma, Jétur, Naphis, et Kedma. |
| 16 | These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations. | Ce sont là les enfants d'Ismaël, et ce sont là leurs noms, selon leurs villages, et selon leurs châteaux: douze Princes de leurs peuples. |
| 17 | And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people. | Et les ans de la vie d'Ismaël furent cent trente-sept ans; et il défaillit, et mourut, et fut recueilli vers ses peuples. |
| 18 | And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren. | Et ses Descendants habitèrent depuis Havila jusqu'à Sur, qui est vis-à-vis de l'Egypte, quand on vient vers l'Assyrie; et le pays qui était échu à Ismaël était à la vue de tous ses frères. |
| 19 | And these are the generations of Isaac, Abraham's son: Abraham begat Isaac: | Or ce sont ici les générations d'Isaac, fils d'Abraham. Abraham engendra Isaac. |
| 20 | And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian. | Et Isaac était âgé de quarante ans, quand il se maria avec Rébecca, fille de Béthuel Syrien, de Paddan-Aram, soeur de Laban Syrien. |
| 21 | And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived. | Et Isaac pria instamment l'Eternel au sujet de sa femme, parce qu'elle était stérile; et l'Eternel fut fléchi par ses prières; et Rébecca sa femme conçut. |
| 22 | And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD. | Mais les enfants s'entrepoussaient dans son ventre, et elle dit: S'il est ainsi, pourquoi suis-je? Et elle alla consulter l'Eternel. |
| 23 | And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. | Et l'Eternel lui dit: Deux nations sont dans ton ventre, et deux peuples sortiront de tes entrailles; et un peuple sera plus fort que l'autre peuple, et le plus grand sera asservi au moindre. |
| 24 | And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. | Et quand son temps d'enfanter fut accompli, voici il y avait deux jumeaux en son ventre. |
| 25 | And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. | Celui qui sortit le premier, était roux, et tout velu, comme un manteau de poil: et ils appelèrent son nom Esaü. |
| 26 | And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. | Et ensuite sortit son frère, tenant de sa main le talon d'Esaü; c'est pourquoi il fut appelé Jacob. Or Isaac était âgé de soixante ans quand ils naquirent. |
| 27 | And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. | Depuis, les enfants devinrent grands, et Esaü était un habile chasseur, et homme de campagne; mais Jacob était un homme intègre et se tenant dans les tentes. |
| 28 | And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. | Et Isaac aimait Esaü; car la venaison était sa viande. Mais Rébecca aimait Jacob. |
| 29 | And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: | Or comme Jacob cuisait du potage, Esaü arriva des champs, et il était las. |
| 30 | And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. | Et Esaü dit à Jacob: Donne-moi, je te prie, à manger de ce roux, de ce roux; car je suis las. C'est pourquoi on appela son nom, Edom. |
| 31 | And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. | Mais Jacob lui dit: Vends-moi aujourd'hui ton droit d'aînesse. |
| 32 | And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? | Et Esaü répondit: Voici je m'en vais mourir; et de quoi me servira le droit d'aînesse? |
| 33 | And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. | Et Jacob dit: Jure-moi aujourd'hui; et il lui jura; ainsi il vendit son droit d'aînesse à Jacob. |
| 34 | Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. | Et Jacob donna à Esaü du pain, et du potage de lentilles; et il mangea, et but; puis il se leva, et s'en alla; ainsi Esaü méprisa son droit d'aînesse. |
