Et elle alla consulter l'Éternel. | Ma i bambini si spingevano l'un l'altro nel suo grembo; ed ella disse: Se è così (che l'Eterno ha risposto), perché mi trovo io in queste condizioni?. Così andò a consultare l'Eterno. |
| 23 | And the LORD said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger. | Et l'Éternel lui dit: Deux nations sont dans ton ventre, et deux peuples se sépareront au sortir de tes entrailles. Un de ces peuples sera plus fort que l'autre; et le plus grand servira le plus petit. | E l'Eterno le disse: Due nazioni sono nel tuo grembo, e due popoli separati usciranno dalle tue viscere. Uno dei due popoli sarà più forte dell'altro, e il maggiore servirà il minore. |
| 24 | And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. | Et le temps où elle devait accoucher arriva, et voici, il y avait deux jumeaux dans son ventre. | Quando venne per lei il tempo di partorire, ecco che ella aveva in grembo due gemelli. |
| 25 | And the first came out red, all over like an hairy garment; and they called his name Esau. | Celui qui sortit le premier était roux, tout velu comme un manteau de poil; et ils l'appelèrent Ésaü (velu). | E il primo che uscì fuori era rosso; egli era tutto quanto come un mantello peloso; così lo chiamarono Esaù. |
| 26 | And after that came his brother out, and his hand took hold on Esau's heel; and his name was called Jacob: and Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. | Et après cela sortit son frère, et sa main tenait le talon d'Ésaü; et on l'appela Jacob (supplanteur). Et Isaac était âgé de soixante ans quand ils naquirent. | Dopo uscì suo Fratello, che con la mano teneva il calcagno di Esaù; così lo chiamarono Giacobbe. Or Isacco aveva settant'anni quando Rebecca li partorì. |
| 27 | And the boys grew: and Esau was a cunning hunter, a man of the field; and Jacob was a plain man, dwelling in tents. | Et les enfants grandirent, et Ésaü devint un habile chasseur, un homme des champs; mais Jacob était un homme paisible, se tenant dans les tentes. | I due fanciulli crebbero ed Esaù divenne un esperto cacciatore, un uomo di campagna, mentre Giacobbe era un uomo tranquillo, che viveva nelle tende. |
| 28 | And Isaac loved Esau, because he did eat of his venison: but Rebekah loved Jacob. | Et Isaac aimait Ésaü; car la venaison était de son goût; mais Rébecca aimait Jacob. | Or Isacco amava Esaù, perché la cacciagione era di suo gusto; Rebecca invece amava Giacobbe. |
| 29 | And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: | Or, comme Jacob cuisait du potage, Ésaü vint des champs, et il était las. | Una volta che Giacobbe si cucinò una zuppa, Esaù giunse dai campi tutto stanco. |
| 30 | And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. | Et Ésaü dit à Jacob: Donne-moi donc à manger de ce roux, de ce roux-là; car je suis très fatigué. C'est pour cela qu'on l'appela Édom (roux). | Ed Esaù disse a Giacobbe: Per favore, lasciami mangiare un po' di questa zuppa rossa, perché sono stanco. Per questo fu chiamato Edom. |
| 31 | And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright. | Mais Jacob dit: Vends-moi d'abord ton droit d'aînesse. | Ma Giacobbe gli rispose: Vendimi prima la tua primogenitura. |
| 32 | And Esau said, Behold, I am at the point to die: and what profit shall this birthright do to me? | Et Ésaü dit: Voici, je m'en vais mourir; à quoi me sert le droit d'aînesse? | Esaù disse: Ecco io sto per morire; che mi giova la primogenitura?. |
| 33 | And Jacob said, Swear to me this day; and he sware unto him: and he sold his birthright unto Jacob. | Et Jacob dit: Jure-moi d'abord. Et il lui jura; ainsi il vendit son droit d'aînesse à Jacob. | Allora Giacobbe disse: Prima, giuramelo. Ed Esaù glielo giurò e vendette la sua primogenitura Giacobbe. |
| 34 | Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: thus Esau despised his birthright. | Et Jacob donna à Ésaü du pain et du potage de lentilles; et il mangea, et but; puis il se leva et s'en alla. Ainsi Ésaü méprisa le droit d'aînesse. | Quindi Giacobbe diede a Esaù del pane e della zuppa di lenticchie. Ed egli mangiò e bevve; poi si alzò e se ne andò. Così Esaù disprezzò la sa primogenitura. |
