And he sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country. |

He abode over against all his brethren. |

| 20 | Isaac était âgé de quarante ans lorsqu'il prit pour femme Rebecca, fille de Bethuel l'Araméen, de Paddan-Aram, soeur de Laban l'Araméen. | Et Isaac était âgé de quarante ans, quand il se maria avec Rébecca, fille de Béthuel Syrien, de Paddan-Aram, soeur de Laban Syrien. | And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Paddan-aram, the sister of Laban the Syrian, to be his wife. |

| 23 | Et l'Éternel lui dit: deux nations sont dans ton ventre, et deux peuples se sépareront en sortant de tes entrailles; et un peuple sera plus fort que l'autre peuple, et le plus grand sera asservi au plus petit. | Et l'Eternel lui dit: Deux nations sont dans ton ventre, et deux peuples sortiront de tes entrailles; et un peuple sera plus fort que l'autre peuple, et le plus grand sera asservi au moindre. | And Jehovah said unto her, Two nations are in thy womb, And two peoples shall be separated from thy bowels. And the one people shall be stronger than the other people. And the elder shall serve the younger. |
| 24 | Et les jours où elle devait enfanter s'accomplirent, et voici, il y avait des jumeaux dans son ventre. | Et quand son temps d'enfanter fut accompli, voici il y avait deux jumeaux en son ventre. | And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb. |
| 25 | Et le premier sortit, roux, tout entier comme un manteau de poil: et ils appelèrent son nom Ésaü. | Celui qui sortit le premier, était roux, et tout velu, comme un manteau de poil: et ils appelèrent son nom Esaü. | And the first came forth red, all over like a hairy garment. And they called his name Esau. |
| 26 | Et ensuite sortit son frère, et sa main tenait le talon d'Ésaü; et on appela son nom Jacob. Et Isaac était âgé de soixante ans quand ils naquirent. | Et ensuite sortit son frère, tenant de sa main le talon d'Esaü; c'est pourquoi il fut appelé Jacob. Or Isaac était âgé de soixante ans quand ils naquirent. | And after that came forth his brother, and his hand had hold on Esau`s heel. And his name was called Jacob. And Isaac was threescore years old when she bare them. |
| 27 | Et les enfants grandirent: et Ésaü était un homme habile à la chasse, un homme des champs; et Jacob était un homme simple, qui habitait les tentes. | Depuis, les enfants devinrent grands, et Esaü était un habile chasseur, et homme de campagne; mais Jacob était un homme intègre et se tenant dans les tentes. | And the boys grew. And Esau was a skilful hunter, a man of the field. And Jacob was a quiet man, dwelling in tents. |

C'est pourquoi on appela son nom Édom. | Et Esaü dit à Jacob: Donne-moi, je te prie, à manger de ce roux, de ce roux; car je suis las. C'est pourquoi on appela son nom, Edom. | And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red [pottage]. For I am faint. Therefore was his name called Edom. |
| 31 | Et Jacob dit: Vends-moi aujourd'hui ton droit d'aînesse. | Mais Jacob lui dit: Vends-moi aujourd'hui ton droit d'aînesse. | And Jacob said, Sell me first thy birthright. |
| 32 | Et Ésaü dit: Voici, je m'en vais mourir; et de quoi me sert le droit d'aînesse? | Et Esaü répondit: Voici je m'en vais mourir; et de quoi me servira le droit d'aînesse? | And Esau said, Behold, I am about to die. And what profit shall the birthright do to me? |
| 33 | Et Jacob dit: Jure-moi aujourd'hui. Et il lui jura, et vendit son droit d'aînesse à Jacob. | Et Jacob dit: Jure-moi aujourd'hui; et il lui jura; ainsi il vendit son droit d'aînesse à Jacob. | And Jacob said, Swear to me first. And he sware unto him. And he sold his birthright unto Jacob. |
| 34 | Et Jacob donna à Ésaü du pain et du potage de lentilles; et il mangea et but, et se leva; et s'en alla: et Ésaü méprisa son droit d'aînesse. | Et Jacob donna à Esaü du pain, et du potage de lentilles; et il mangea, et but; puis il se leva, et s'en alla; ainsi Esaü méprisa son droit d'aînesse. | And Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentils. And he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way. So Esau despised his birthright. |
