| 1 | Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. | Così furono terminati i cieli e la terra e tutto il loro esercito. |
| 2 | And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. | Pertanto il settimo giorno, DIO terminò l'opera che aveva fatto, e nel settimo giorno si riposò da tutta l'opera che aveva fatto. |
| 3 | And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. | E DIO benedisse il settimo giorno e lo santificò, perché in esso DIO si riposò da tutta l'opera che aveva creato e fatto. |
| 4 | These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens, | Queste sono le origini dei cieli e della terra quando furono creati, nel giorno che l'Eterno DIO fece la terra e i cieli. |
| 5 | And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. | Non vi era ancora sulla terra alcun arbusto della campagna e nessuna erba della campagna era ancora spuntata, perché l'Eterno DIO non aveva fatto piovere sulla terra e non vi era l'uomo che coltivasse il suolo. |
| 6 | But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. | Ma dalla terra saliva un vapore che irrigava tutta la superficie del suolo, |
| 7 | And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. | Allora l'Eterno Dio formò l'uomo dalla polvere della terra, gli soffiò nelle narici un alito di vita, e l'uomo divenne un essere vivente. |
| 8 | And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. | Poi l'Eterno DIO piantò un giardino in Eden, ad oriente, e vi pose l'uomo che aveva formato. |
| 9 | And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. | E l'Eterno DIO fece spuntare dal suolo ogni sorta di alberi piacevoli a vedersi e i cui frutti erano buoni da mangiare; in mezzo al giardino vi erano anche l'albero della vita e l'albero della conoscenza del bene e del male. |
| 10 | And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads. | Un fiume usciva da Eden per irrigare il giardino e di là si divideva per divenire quattro corsi d'acqua. |
| 11 | The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; | Il nome del primo è Pishon; è quello che circonda tutto il paese di Havilah, dov'è l'oro; |
| 12 | And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone. | e l'oro di quel paese è buono; là si trovano pure il bdellio e la pietra d'ònice. |
| 13 | And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia. | Il nome del secondo fiume è Ghihon, ed è quello che circonda tutto il paese di Cush. |
| 14 | And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates. | Il nome del terzo fiume che è il Tigri, ed è quello che scorre a est dell'Assiria. E il quarto fiume è l'Eufrate. |
| 15 | And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. | L'Eterno DIO prese dunque l'uomo e lo pose nel giardino dell'Eden perché lo lavorasse e lo custodisse. |
| 16 | And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: | E l'Eterno DIO comandò l'uomo dicendo: Mangia pure liberamente di ogni albero del giardino; |
| 17 | But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. | ma dell'albero della conoscenza del bene e del male non ne mangiare, perché nel giorno che tu ne mangerai, per certo morrai. |
| 18 | And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. | Poi l'Eterno DIO disse: Non è bene che l'uomo sia solo; io gli farò un aiuto conveniente a lui. |
| 19 | And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. | E l'Eterno DIO formò dalla terra tutti gli animali dei campi e tutti gli uccelli dei cieli e li condusse dall'uomo per vedere come li avrebbe chiamati; e in qualunque modo l'uomo avesse chiamato ogni essere vivente, quello doveva essere il suo nome. |
| 20 | And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. | E l'uomo diede dei nomi a tutto il bestiame, agli uccelli del cielo e ad ogni animale dei campi; ma per l'uomo non si trovò alcun aiuto conveniente per lui. |
| 21 | And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; | Allora l'Eterno DIO fece cadere un profondo sonno sull'uomo, che si addormentò; e prese una delle sue costole, e rinchiuse la carne al suo posto. |
| 22 | And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. | Poi l'Eterno DIO con la costola che aveva tolta all'uomo ne formò una donna e la condusse all'uomo. |
| 23 | And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. | E l'uomo disse: Questa finalmente è ossa delle mie ossa e carne della mia carne. Lei sarà chiamata donna perché è stata tratta dall'uomo. |
| 24 | Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. | Perciò l'uomo lascerà suo padre e sua madre e si unirà a sua moglie, e saranno una sola carne. |
| 25 | And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. | E l'uomo e sua moglie erano ambedue nudi e non ne avevano vergogna. |
