| 1 | And Abram went up out of Egypt, he, and his wife, and all that he had, and Lot with him, into the South. | Abramo dunque risalì dall'Egitto verso il Neghev con sua moglie e con tutto quel che possedeva. E Lot era con lui. |
| 2 | And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold. | Abramo era molto ricco di bestiame, di argento e di oro. |
| 3 | And he went on his journeys from the South even to Beth-el, unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Beth-el and Ai, | Dal Neghev egli continuò il suo viaggio fino a Bethel, al luogo dove da principio era stata la sua tenda, fra Bethel e Ai, |
| 4 | unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and there Abram called on the name of Jehovah. | al luogo dell'altare che aveva fatto inizialmente; e là Abramo invocò il nome dell'Eterno. |
| 5 | And Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents. | Anche Lot, che viaggiava con Abramo aveva greggi, armenti e tende. |
| 6 | And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together. | E il paese non era in grado di sostenerli, se essi abitavano assieme, perché i loro beni erano così grandi che non potevano stare assieme. |
| 7 | And there was a strife between the herdsmen of Abram`s cattle and the herdsmen of Lot`s cattle: and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelt then in the land. | Sorse perciò una contesa fra i pastori del bestiame di Abramo e i pastori del bestiame di Lot. I Cananei e i Perezei abitavano a quel tempo nel paese. |
| 8 | And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdsmen and thy herdsmen; for we are brethren. | Così Abramo disse a Lot: Deh, non ci sia contesa fra me e te, né fra i miei pastori e i tuoi pastori, perché siamo fratelli. |
| 9 | Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me. If [thou wilt take] the left hand, then I will go to the right. Or if [thou take] the right hand, then I will go to the left. | Non sta forse tutto il paese davanti a te? Separati da me! Se tu vai a sinistra, io andrò a destra; e se tu vai a destra, io andrò a sinistra. |
| 10 | And Lot lifted up his eyes, and beheld all the Plain of the Jordan, that it was well watered every where, before Jehovah destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, like the garden of Jehovah, like the land of Egypt, as thou goest unto Zoar. | Allora Lot alzò gli occhi e vide l'intera pianura del Giordano. Prima che l'Eterno avesse distrutto Sodoma e Gomorra, essa era tutta quanta irrigata fino a Tsoar, come il giardino dell'Eterno, come il paese d'Egitto. |
| 11 | So Lot chose him all the Plain of the Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other. | Così Lot scelse per sé tutta la pianura del Giordano e cominciò a spostare le sue tende verso oriente. Così si separarono l'uno dall'altro. |
| 12 | Abram dwelt in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelt in the cities of the Plain, and moved his tent as far as Sodom. | Abramo dimorò nel paese di Canaan, e Lot abitò nelle città della pianura e giunse a piantare le sue tende fino a Sodoma. |
| 13 | Now the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners against Jehovah exceedingly. | Ora la gente di Sodoma era grandemente depravata e peccatrice contro l'Eterno. |
| 14 | And Jehovah said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art, northward and southward and eastward and westward: | E l'Eterno disse ad Abramo, dopo che Lot si Fu separato da lui: Alza ora i tuoi occhi e mira dal luogo dove sei a nord a sud; a est e a ovest. |
| 15 | for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. | Tutto il paese che tu vedi, io lo darò a te e alla tua discendenza, per sempre. |
| 16 | And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: So that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then may thy seed also be numbered. | E renderò la tua discendenza come la polvere della terra; per cui, se qualcuno può contare la polvere della terra, si potrà contare anche la tua discendenza. |
| 17 | Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for unto thee will I give it. | Levati, percorri il paese in lungo e in largo, perché io lo darò a te. |
| 18 | And Abram moved his tent, and came and dwelt by the oaks of Mamre, which are in Hebron, and built there an altar unto Jehovah. | Allora Abramo levò le sue tende e venne ad abitare alle querce di Mamre, che sono a Hebron; e là costruì un altare all'Eterno. |
