| 1 | And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, | Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en disant: |
| 2 | Son of man, set thy face toward Jerusalem, and drop thy word toward the holy places, and prophesy against the land of Israel, | Fils d'homme, tourne ta face vers Jérusalem, et fais découler ta parole vers les saints lieux, et prophétise contre la terre d'Israël. |
| 3 | And say to the land of Israel, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I am against thee, and will draw forth my sword out of his sheath, and will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked. | Et dis à la terre d'Israël: ainsi a dit l'Eternel: voici, j'en veux à toi, et je tirerai mon épée de son fourreau, et je retrancherai du milieu de toi le juste et le méchant. |
| 4 | Seeing then that I will cut off from thee the righteous and the wicked, therefore shall my sword go forth out of his sheath against all flesh from the south to the north: | Parce que je retrancherai du milieu de toi le juste et le méchant, à cause de cela mon épée sortira de son fourreau contre toute chair, depuis le Midi jusqu'au Septentrion. |
| 5 | That all flesh may know that I the LORD have drawn forth my sword out of his sheath: it shall not return any more. | Et toute chair saura que moi l'Eternel j'aurai tiré mon épée de son fourreau, et elle n'y retournera plus. |
| 6 | Sigh therefore, thou son of man, with the breaking of thy loins; and with bitterness sigh before their eyes. | Aussi toi, fils d'homme gémis en te rompant les reins de douleur, et soupire avec amertume en leur présence. |
| 7 | And it shall be, when they say unto thee, Wherefore sighest thou? that thou shalt answer, For the tidings; because it cometh: and every heart shall melt, and all hands shall be feeble, and every spirit shall faint, and all knees shall be weak as water: behold, it cometh, and shall be brought to pass, saith the Lord GOD. | Et quand ils te diront: pourquoi gémis-tu? alors tu répondras: c'est à cause du bruit, car il vient, et tout coeur se fondra, et toutes les mains deviendront lâches, et tout esprit sera étourdi, et tous les genoux se fondront en eau; voici, il vient, et il sera accompli, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel. |
| 8 | Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, | Puis la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en disant: |
| 9 | Son of man, prophesy, and say, Thus saith the LORD; Say, A sword, a sword is sharpened, and also furbished: | Fils d'homme, prophétise, et dis: ainsi a dit l'Eternel: dis, l'épée, l'épée a été aiguisée, et elle est aussi fourbie. |
| 10 | It is sharpened to make a sore slaughter; it is furbished that it may glitter: should we then make mirth? it contemneth the rod of my son, as every tree. | Elle a été aiguisée pour faire un grand carnage, elle a été fourbie afin qu'elle brille: nous réjouirons-nous? C' est la verge de mon fils; elle dédaigne tout bois. |
| 11 | And he hath given it to be furbished, that it may be handled: this sword is sharpened, and it is furbished, to give it into the hand of the slayer. | Et l'Eternel l'a donnée à fourbir, afin qu'on la tienne à la main; l'épée a été aiguisée, et elle a été fourbie pour la mettre en la main du destructeur. |
| 12 | Cry and howl, son of man: for it shall be upon my people, it shall be upon all the princes of Israel: terrors by reason of the sword shall be upon my people: smite therefore upon thy thigh. | Crie et hurle, fils d'homme, car elle est contre mon peuple, elle est contre tous les principaux d'Israël; les frayeurs de l'épée seront sur mon peuple; c'est pourquoi frappe sur ta cuisse. |
| 13 | Because it is a trial, and what if the sword contemn even the rod? it shall be no more, saith the Lord GOD. | Quand ce serait une épreuve, et que serait-ce? Si même cette épée qui dédaigne tout bois, était une verge, il n'en serait rien, dit le Seigneur l'Eternel. |
| 14 | Thou therefore, son of man, prophesy, and smite thine hands together. and let the sword be doubled the third time, the sword of the slain: it is the sword of the great men that are slain, which entereth into their privy chambers. | Toi donc, fils d'homme, prophétise, et frappe d'une main contre l'autre, et que l'épée soit redoublée pour la troisième fois, l'épée des tués est l'épée contre les grands qui seront tués, passant jusqu'à eux dans leurs cabinets. |
| 15 | I have set the point of the sword against all their gates, that their heart may faint, and their ruins be multiplied: ah! it is made bright, it is wrapped up for the slaughter. | J'ai mis à toutes leurs portes l'épée luisante, afin que le coeur se fonde, et que les ruines soient multipliées. Ah! elle est faite pour briller et réservée pour tuer. |
| 16 | Go thee one way or other, either on the right hand, or on the left, whithersoever thy face is set. | Joins-toi épée, frappe à la droite; avance-toi, frappe à la gauche, à quelque côté que tu te rencontres. |
| 17 | I will also smite mine hands together, and I will cause my fury to rest: I the LORD have said it. | Je frapperai aussi d'une main contre l'autre, et je satisferai ma colère: moi l'Eternel j'ai parlé. |
| 18 | The word of the LORD came unto me again, saying, | Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en disant: |
| 19 | Also, thou son of man, appoint thee two ways, that the sword of the king of Babylon may come: both twain shall come forth out of one land: and choose thou a place, choose it at the head of the way to the city. | Et toi, fils d'homme, propose-toi deux chemins par où l'épée du Roi de Babylone pourrait venir, et que les deux chemins sortent d'un même pays, et les choisis, choisis-les à l'endroit où commence le chemin de la ville de Babylone. |
| 20 | Appoint a way, that the sword may come to Rabbath of the Ammonites, and to Judah in Jerusalem the defenced. | Tu te proposeras le chemin par lequel l'épée doit venir contre Rabba des enfants de Hammon, et le chemin qui va en Judée, et à Jérusalem, ville forte. |
| 21 | For the king of Babylon stood at the parting of the way, at the head of the two ways, to use divination: he made his arrows bright, he consulted with images, he looked in the liver. | Car le Roi de Babylone s'est arrêté dans un chemin fourchu, au commencement de deux chemins, pour consulter les devins; il a poli les flèches; il a interrogé les Théraphims; il a regardé au foie. |
| 22 | At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem, to appoint captains, to open the mouth in the slaughter, to lift up the voice with shouting, to appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast a mount, and to build a fort. | Dans sa main droite est la divination contre Jérusalem, pour y disposer les béliers, pour publier la tuerie, pour crier l'alarme à haute voix, pour ranger les béliers contre les portes, pour dresser des terrasses, et bâtir des forts. |
| 23 | And it shall be unto them as a false divination in their sight, to them that have sworn oaths: but he will call to remembrance the iniquity, that they may be taken. | Mais ce leur sera comme qui devinerait faussement en leur présence; il y a de grands serments entre eux, mais il va rappeler le souvenir de leur iniquité, afin qu'on y soit surpris. |
| 24 | Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have made your iniquity to be remembered, in that your transgressions are discovered, so that in all your doings your sins do appear; because, I say, that ye are come to remembrance, ye shall be taken with the hand. | C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel: parce que vous avez fait revenir le souvenir de votre iniquité, lorsque vos crimes se sont découverts, tellement que vos péchés se voient dans toutes vos actions; parce, dis-je, que vous avez fait qu'on se souvienne de vous, vous serez surpris avec la main. |
| 25 | And thou, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day is come, when iniquity shall have an end, | Et toi profane, méchant, Prince d'Israël, le jour duquel est venu au temps de l'iniquité, ce qui fera sa fin. |
| 26 | Thus saith the Lord GOD; Remove the diadem, and take off the crown: this shall not be the same: exalt him that is low, and abase him that is high. | Ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel, qu'on ôte cette tiare, et qu'on enlève cette couronne: ce ne sera plus celle-ci; j'élèverai ce qui est bas, et j'abaisserai ce qui est haut. |
| 27 | I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: and it shall be no more, until he come whose right it is; and I will give it him. | Je la mettrai à la renverse, à la renverse, à la renverse, et elle ne sera plus, jusqu'à ce que vienne celui auquel appartient le gouvernement, et je le lui donnerai. |
| 28 | And thou, son of man, prophesy and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning the Ammonites, and concerning their reproach; even say thou, The sword, the sword is drawn: for the slaughter it is furbished, to consume because of the glittering: | Et toi, fils d'homme, prophétise, et dis: ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel touchant les enfants de Hammon, et touchant leur opprobre; dis donc, épée, épée dégainée, fourbie pour faire la tuerie, pour consumer avec son éclat. |
| 29 | Whiles they see vanity unto thee, whiles they divine a lie unto thee, to bring thee upon the necks of them that are slain, of the wicked, whose day is come, when their iniquity shall have an end. | Pendant qu'on voit pour toi des visions de vanité, et qu'on devine pour toi le mensonge, afin qu'on te mette sur le cou des méchants qui sont mis à mort; le jour desquels est venu au temps de l'iniquité, ce qui sera sa fin. |
| 30 | Shall I cause it to return into his sheath? I will judge thee in the place where thou wast created, in the land of thy nativity. | La remettrait-on dans son fourreau? je te jugerai sur le lieu auquel tu as été créé, au pays de ton extraction. |
| 31 | And I will pour out mine indignation upon thee, I will blow against thee in the fire of my wrath, and deliver thee into the hand of brutish men, and skilful to destroy. | Je répandrai mon indignation sur toi, j'allumerai sur toi le feu de ma fureur, et je te livrerai entre les mains d'hommes brutaux, et forgeurs de destruction. |
| 32 | Thou shalt be for fuel to the fire; thy blood shall be in the midst of the land; thou shalt be no more remembered: for I the LORD have spoken it. | Tu seras destiné au feu pour être dévoré; ton sang sera au milieu de la terre: on ne se souviendra plus de toi, car c'est moi l'Eternel, qui ai parlé. |
