| 3 | Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, à Jérusalem: Ton origine et ta naissance sont du pays des Cananéens; ton père était un Amoréen, et ta mère une Héthienne. | and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah unto Jerusalem: Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of the Canaanite; the Amorite was thy father, and thy mother was a Hittite. |
| 4 | Et, quant à ta naissance, le jour où tu naquis ton nombril ne fut pas coupé; et tu ne fus pas lavée dans l'eau pour être nettoyée; et tu ne fus pas frottée avec du sel, et tu ne fus pas emmaillotée. | And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to cleanse thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. |
| 5 | Aucun oeil n'eut pitié de toi pour te faire une seule de ces choses, pour avoir compassion de toi; mais tu fus jetée sur la face des champs, à cause de l'horreur qu'on avait de toi, le jour que tu naquis. | No eye pitied thee, to do any of these things unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, for that thy person was abhorred, in the day that thou wast born. |
| 6 | Et je passai près de toi, et je te vis gisante dans ton sang, et je te dis, dans ton sang: Vis! et je te dis, dans ton sang: | And when I passed by thee, and saw thee weltering in thy blood, I said unto thee, [Though thou art] in thy blood, live; yea, I said unto thee, [Though thou art] in thy blood, live. |
| 7 | Vis! Je t'ai multipliée comme le germe des champs; et tu pris ta croissance, et tu devins grande, et tu parvins au comble de la beauté; tes seins se formèrent, et ta chevelure se développa; mais tu étais nue et découverte. | I caused thee to multiply as that which groweth in the field, and thou didst increase and wax great, and thou attainedst to excellent ornament; thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair was grown; yet thou wast naked and bare. |
| 8 | Et je passai près de toi, et je te vis, et voici, ton âge était l'âge des amours; et j'étendis sur toi le pan de ma robe, et je couvris ta nudité; et je te jurai, et j'entrai en alliance avec toi, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel; et tu fus à moi. | Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord Jehovah, and thou becamest mine. |
| 9 | Et je te lavai dans l'eau, et je lavai à grande eau ton sang de dessus toi, et je t'oignis d'huile; | Then washed I thee with water; yea, I thoroughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. |
| 10 | et je te vêtis de broderie, et je te chaussai de peau de taisson, et je te ceignis de lin blanc, et je te couvris de soie; | I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with sealskin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and covered thee with silk. |
| 11 | et je te parai d'ornements, et je mis des bracelets à tes mains et un collier à ton cou; | And I decked thee with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. |
| 12 | et je mis un anneau à ton nez et des pendants à tes oreilles, et une couronne de beauté sur ta tête. | And I put a ring upon thy nose, and ear-rings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head. |
| 13 | Et tu fus parée d'or et d'argent, et ton vêtement était de lin blanc, et de soie, et de broderie. Tu mangeas de la fleur de farine, et du miel, et de l'huile. Et tu devins extrêmement belle, et tu prospéras jusqu'à être un royaume. | Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil; and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper unto royal estate. |
| 14 | Et ta renommée se répandit parmi les nations à cause de ta beauté, car elle était parfaite par ma magnificence que j'avais mise sur toi, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel. | And thy renown went forth among the nations for thy beauty; for it was perfect, through my majesty which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord Jehovah. |
| 15 | Mais tu te confias en ta beauté, et tu te prostituas à cause de ta renommée, et tu prodiguas tes prostitutions à tout passant: c'était pour lui. | But thou didst trust in thy beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy whoredoms on every one that passed by; his it was. |
| 16 | Et tu pris de tes vêtements, et tu te fis des hauts lieux de diverses couleurs, et tu t'y prostituas, ce qui n'était jamais arrivé, et ne sera plus. | And thou didst take of thy garments, and madest for thee high places decked with divers colors, and playedst the harlot upon them: [the like things] shall not come, neither shall it be [so]. |
| 17 | Et tu pris tes objets de parure, faits de mon or et de mon argent que je t'avais donnés, et tu t'en fis des images d'un mâle, et tu te prostituas avec elles; | Thou didst also take thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest for thee images of men, and didst play the harlot with them; |
| 18 | et tu pris tes vêtements de broderie, et tu les en couvris, et tu mis devant elles mon huile et mon encens; | and thou tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them, and didst set mine oil and mine incense before them. |
| 19 | et mon pain que je t'avais donné, la fleur de farine, et l'huile, et le miel, dont je te nourrissais, tu les mis devant elles, en odeur agréable. Il en a été ainsi, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel. | My bread also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou didst even set it before them for a sweet savor; and [thus] it was, saith the Lord Jehovah. |
| 20 | Et tu pris tes fils et tes filles que tu m'avais enfantés, et tu les leur offris en sacrifice pour qu'ils les dévorassent. Était-ce trop peu que ta prostitution? | Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Were thy whoredoms a small matter, |
| 21 | Tu égorgeas mes fils, et tu les livras, en les leur consacrant. | that thou hast slain my children, and delivered them up, in causing them to pass through [the fire] unto them? |
| 22 | Et avec toutes tes abominations et tes prostitutions, tu ne t'es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse, quand tu étais nue et découverte, gisante dans ton sang. | And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast weltering in thy blood. |
| 23 | Et il arriva, après toutes tes iniquités, - malheur, malheur à toi, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, | And it is come to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord Jehovah,) |
| 24 | -que tu t'es bâti un lieu de débauche et que tu t'es fait un haut lieu dans toutes les places: | that thou hast built unto thee a vaulted place, and hast made thee a lofty place in every street. |
| 25 | au bout de chaque chemin tu as bâti ton haut lieu, et tu as rendu ta beauté abominable, et tu t'es découverte à tout passant, et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions. | Thou hast built thy lofty place at the head of every way, and hast made thy beauty an abomination, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredom. |
| 26 | Et tu as commis fornication avec les fils de l'Égypte, tes voisins, au corps vigoureux; et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions pour me provoquer à colère. | Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians, thy neighbors, great of flesh; and hast multiplied thy whoredom, to provoke me to anger. |
| 27 | Et voici, j'ai étendu ma main sur toi, et j'ai diminué ce qui t'était assigné, et je t'ai livrée à la volonté de celles qui te haïssent, les filles des Philistins, qui ont honte de tes voies d'infamie. | Behold therefore, I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary [food], and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, that are ashamed of thy lewd way. |
| 28 | Et tu as commis fornication avec les fils d'Assur, parce que tu ne pouvais être rassasiée; tu as commis fornication avec eux, et même tu n'as pas été rassasiée. | Thou hast played the harlot also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet thou wast not satisfied. |
| 29 | Et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions avec un pays de marchands, la Chaldée, et même avec cela tu n'as pas été rassasiée. | Thou hast moreover multiplied thy whoredom unto the land of traffic, unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith. |
| 30 | Oh! que ton coeur est faible, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, que tu aies fait toutes ces choses, l'oeuvre d'une prostituée éhontée, | How weak is thy heart, saith the Lord Jehovah, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an impudent harlot; |
| 31 | te bâtissant ton lieu de débauche au bout de chaque chemin; et tu as établi ton haut lieu dans toutes les places. Et tu n'es pas comme une prostituée, en ce que tu dédaignes le salaire: | in that thou buildest thy vaulted place at the head of every way, and makest thy lofty place in every street, and hast not been as a harlot, in that thou scornest hire. |
| 32 | femme qui commets l'adultère, tu prends des étrangers à la place de ton mari. | A wife that committeth adultery! that taketh strangers instead of her husband! |
| 33 | On fait des cadeaux à toutes les prostituées; mais toi, tu fais tes cadeaux à tous tes amants, et tu les engages par des présents à venir vers toi de tous côtés, pour tes prostitutions. | They give gifts to all harlots; but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and bribest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredoms. |
| 34 | Et il arrive chez toi, dans tes prostitutions, le contraire de ce qui se voit chez les femmes: on ne te suit pas pour commettre fornication; et, en ce que tu donnes des présents et qu'on ne te donne pas de présents, tu fais le contraire. | And thou art different from [other] women in thy whoredoms, in that none followeth thee to play the harlot; and whereas thou givest hire, and no hire is given unto thee, therefore thou art different. |
| 35 | C'est pourquoi, prostituée, écoute la parole de l'Éternel: | Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of Jehovah: |
| 36 | Ainsi dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Parce que ton argent a été dissipé, et que ta nudité a été découverte à tes amants par tes prostitutions, et à toutes les idoles de tes abominations, et à cause du sang de tes fils que tu leur as livrés; | Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness uncovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers; and because of all the idols of thy abominations, and for the blood of thy children, that thou didst give unto them; |
| 37 | à cause de cela, voici, je rassemble tous tes amants avec lesquels tu te plaisais, et tous ceux que tu as aimés, avec tous ceux que tu as haïs; et je les rassemblerai de toutes parts contre toi, et je leur découvrirai ta nudité, et ils verront toute ta nudité. | therefore behold, I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them against thee on every side, and will uncover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness. |
| 38 | Et je te jugerai du jugement des femmes adultères et de celles qui versent le sang, et je te livrerai au sang de la fureur et de la jalousie; | And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring upon thee the blood of wrath and jealousy. |
| 39 | et je te livrerai entre leurs mains, et ils abattront ton lieu de débauche et démoliront tes hauts lieux; et ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, et prendront tes objets de parure, et te laisseront nue et découverte. | I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thy vaulted place, and break down thy lofty places; and they shall strip thee of thy clothes, and take thy fair jewels; and they shall leave thee naked and bare. |
| 40 | Et on fera monter contre toi un rassemblement d'hommes, et ils te lapideront avec des pierres, et te transperceront avec leurs épées; | They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords. |
| 41 | et ils brûleront tes maisons par le feu, et exécuteront sur toi des jugements aux yeux de beaucoup de femmes. Et je te ferai cesser de commettre fornication, et, des présents aussi, tu n'en donneras plus. | And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women; and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou shalt also give no hire any more. |
| 42 | Et je satisferai ma fureur sur toi, et ma jalousie se retirera de toi; et je me tiendrai tranquille, et je ne me courroucerai plus. | So will I cause my wrath toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry. |
| 43 | Parce que tu ne t'es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse, et que tu m'as irrité par toutes ces choses, voici, moi aussi je fais retomber ta voie sur ta tête, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel; et tu ne commettras pas l'infamie par-dessus toutes tes abominations. | Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast raged against me in all these things; therefore, behold, I also will bring thy way upon thy head, saith the Lord Jehovah: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness with all thine abominations. |
| 44 | Voici, tous ceux qui font des proverbes feront un proverbe sur toi, disant: Telle mère, telle fille! | Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use [this] proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. |
| 45 | Tu es la fille de ta mère qui avait en horreur son mari et ses enfants; et tu es la soeur de tes soeurs qui avaient en horreur leurs maris et leurs enfants. Votre mère était une Héthienne, et votre père était un Amoréen. | Thou art the daughter of thy mother, that loatheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. |
| 46 | Et ta soeur, l'aînée, c'est Samarie qui demeure à ta gauche, elle et ses filles; et ta jeune soeur qui demeure à ta droite, c'est Sodome et ses filles. | And thine elder sister is Samaria, that dwelleth at thy left hand, she and her daughters; and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. |
| 47 | Mais tu n'as pas marché dans leurs voies, et tu n'as pas fait selon leurs abominations; mais, comme si c'était bien peu, tu t'es corrompue dans toutes tes voies plus qu'elles. | Yet hast thou not walked in their ways, nor done after their abominations; but, as [if that were] a very little [thing], thou wast more corrupt than they in all thy ways. |
| 48 | Je suis vivant, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel, que Sodome ta soeur, elle et ses filles, n'a pas fait comme tu as fait, toi et tes filles! | As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. |
| 49 | Voici, c'est ici l'iniquité de ta soeur Sodome: orgueil, abondance de pain et insouciant repos, elle les a possédés, elle et ses filles; mais elle n'a pas fortifié la main de l'affligé et du pauvre. | Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. |
| 50 | Elles se sont élevées et ont commis des abominations devant moi; et je les ai ôtées lorsque je l'ai vu. | And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw [good]. |
| 51 | Et Samarie n'a pas péché selon la moitié de tes péchés; tu as multiplié plus qu'elles tes abominations, et tu as justifié tes soeurs par toutes tes abominations que tu as commises. | Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters by all thine abominations which thou hast done. |
| 52 | Toi aussi, toi qui a jugé tes soeurs, porte ta confusion à cause de tes péchés, par lesquels tu as agi plus abominablement qu'elles; elles sont plus justes que toi. Et toi aussi, sois honteuse et porte ta confusion, parce que tu as justifié tes soeurs. | Thou also, bear thou thine own shame, in that thou hast given judgment for thy sisters; through thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous that thou: yea, be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters. |
| 53 | Et je tournerai en délivrance leur captivité, la captivité de Sodome et de ses filles, et la captivité de Samarie et de ses filles, et la captivité de tes captifs au milieu d'elles, | And I will turn again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them; |
| 54 | afin que tu portes ta confusion, et que tu sois confuse de tout ce que tu as fait, en ce que tu les consoles. | that thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be ashamed because of all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them. |
| 55 | Et tes soeurs, Sodome et ses filles, retourneront à leur ancien état, et Samarie et ses filles retourneront à leur ancien état; et toi et tes filles, vous retournerez à votre ancien état. | And thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate; and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate; and thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate. |
| 56 | Et Sodome, ta soeur, n'a pas été mentionnée par ta bouche, au jour de ton orgueil, | For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride, |
| 57 | avant que ton iniquité fût découverte, comme au temps des outrages des filles d'Aram et de toutes celles d'alentour, des filles des Philistins, qui te méprisaient de toutes parts. | before thy wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of the reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, that do despite unto thee round about. |
| 58 | Ton infamie et tes abominations, tu les portes, dit l'Éternel. | Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith Jehovah. |
| 59 | Car ainsi dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel: Je te ferai comme tu as fait, toi qui a méprisé le serment et rompu l'alliance. | For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also deal with thee as thou hast done, who hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant. |
| 60 | Mais je me souviendrai de mon alliance avec toi dans les jours de ta jeunesse, et j'établirai pour toi une alliance éternelle. | Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. |
| 61 | Et tu te souviendras de tes voies; et tu seras confuse, quand tu recevras tes soeurs, tes aînées, avec celles qui sont plus jeunes que toi, et que je te les donnerai pour filles, mais non pas selon ton alliance. | Then shalt thou remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder [sisters] and thy younger; and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant. |
| 62 | Et j'établirai mon alliance avec toi, et tu sauras que je suis l'Éternel; | And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah; |
| 63 | afin que tu te souviennes, et que tu sois honteuse, et que tu n'ouvres plus la bouche, à cause de ta confusion, quand je te pardonnerai tout ce que tu as fait, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel. | that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more, because of thy shame, when I have forgiven thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord Jehovah. |
