| 4 | Quant à ta naissance, le jour où tu naquis, ton cordon n'a pas été coupé, et tu n'as pas été baignée dans l'eau pour être purifiée; tu n'as pas été frottée de sel, ni enveloppée de langes. | And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to cleanse thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. |
| 5 | Aucun oeil n'eut pitié du toi pour te rendre un seul de ces soins, par compassion pour toi; mais on te jeta, par dégoût de toi, sur la face des champs, le jour de ta naissance. | No eye pitied thee, to do any of these things unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, for that thy person was abhorred, in the day that thou wast born. |
| 6 | Je passai près de toi et je te vis te débattant dans ton sang, et je te dis : Vis dans ton sang. | And when I passed by thee, and saw thee weltering in thy blood, I said unto thee, [Though thou art] in thy blood, live; yea, I said unto thee, [Though thou art] in thy blood, live. |
| 7 | Je te fis multiplier comme l'herbe des champs; tu te multiplias et tu grandis; tu acquis une beauté parfaite; tes seins se formèrent et tu arrivas à la puberté; mais tu étais nue, entièrement nue. | I caused thee to multiply as that which groweth in the field, and thou didst increase and wax great, and thou attainedst to excellent ornament; thy breasts were fashioned, and thy hair was grown; yet thou wast naked and bare. |
| 8 | Et je passai prés de toi et je te vis; et voici que ton temps était venu, le temps des amours; j'étendis sur toi le pan de mon manteau et je couvris ta nudité; je te fis un serment et j'entrai en alliance avec toi, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh, - et tu fus à moi. | Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord Jehovah, and thou becamest mine. |

| 10 | Je te vêtis de broderie, et je te chaussai de peau de veau marin; je ceignis ta tête d'un voile de lin, et je te couvris de soie. | I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with sealskin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and covered thee with silk. |
| 11 | Je t'ornai d'une parure : je mis des bracelets à tes mains, et un collier à ton cou; | And I decked thee with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. |
| 12 | je mis à ton nez un anneau, des boucles à tes oreilles, et sur ta tête un magnifique diadème. | And I put a ring upon thy nose, and ear-rings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thy head. |
| 13 | Tu t'ornas d'or et d'argent, et tu fus vêtue de lin, de soie et de broderie; la fleur de froment, le miel et l'huile étaient ta nourriture; tu devins extraordinairement belle, et tu arrivas à la dignité royale. | Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil; and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper unto royal estate. |
| 14 | Ton nom se répandit parmi les nations à cause de ta beauté; car elle était parfaite, grâce à ma splendeur que j'avais répandue sur toi, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. | And thy renown went forth among the nations for thy beauty; for it was perfect, through my majesty which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord Jehovah. |
| 15 | Mais tu mis ta confiance en ta beauté, et tu te prostituas à la faveur de ton nom; tu prodiguas tes amours à tout passant, te livrant à lui. | But thou didst trust in thy beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy whoredoms on every one that passed by; his it was. |
| 16 | Et tu as pris de tes vêtements, et tu t'en es fait des hauts lieux aux couleurs variées, et tu t'es prostituée dessus : ce qui ne s'était jamais fait et ne se fera jamais. | And thou didst take of thy garments, and madest for thee high places decked with divers colors, and playedst the harlot upon them: [the like things] shall not come, neither shall it be [so]. |
| 17 | Tu as pris tes bijoux, faits de mon or et de mon argent que je t'avais donnés, et tu t'en es fait des images d'hommes, auxquelles tu t'es prostituée. | Thou didst also take thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest for thee images of men, and didst play the harlot with them; |
| 18 | Tu as pris tes vêtements brodés et tu les en as couvertes, et tu as mis devant elles mon huile et mon encens. | and thou tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them, and didst set mine oil and mine incense before them. |
| 19 | Mon pain que je t'avais donné, la fleur de froment, l'huile et le miel dont je te nourrissais, tu les as mis devant elles en offrande d'agréable odeur. Voilà ce qui s'est fait, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh. | My bread also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou didst even set it before them for a sweet savor; and [thus] it was, saith the Lord Jehovah. |
| 20 | Tu as pris tes fils et tes filles que tu m'avais enfantés; tu les leur as offerts en sacrifice pour qu'ils les dévorassent. | Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Were thy whoredoms a small matter, |
| 21 | Etait-ce trop peu de tes prostitutions, que tu aies égorgé mes fils, et que tu les leur aies livrés, en les faisant passer par le feu en leur honneur ? | that thou hast slain my children, and delivered them up, in causing them to pass through [the fire] unto them? |
| 22 | Et au milieu de toutes tes abominations et de tes prostitutions, tu ne t'es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse, quand tu étais nue, complètement nue, te débattant dans ton sang. | And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast weltering in thy blood. |
| 23 | Après toutes tes méchantes actions, - malheur, malheur à toi! oracle du Seigneur Yahweh-- | And it is come to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord Jehovah,) |
| 24 | tu t'es construit une voûte et tu t'es fait un tertre sur toutes les places. | that thou hast built unto thee a vaulted place, and hast made thee a lofty place in every street. |
| 25 | A chaque carrefour tu as élevé ton tertre; tu as souillé ta beauté; tu t'es livrée à tout passant, tu as multiplié tes prostitutions. | Thou hast built thy lofty place at the head of every way, and hast made thy beauty an abomination, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredom. |
| 26 | Tu t'es prostituée aux fils de l'Egypte, tes voisins, aux membres vigoureux, et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions pour m'irriter. | Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians, thy neighbors, great of flesh; and hast multiplied thy whoredom, to provoke me to anger. |
| 27 | Et voici que j'ai étendu ma main sur toi; j'ai diminué ta portion; je t'ai livrée au bon plaisir de tes ennemies, les filles des Philistins, qui ont rougi de ta conduite criminelle. | Behold therefore, I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary [food], and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, that are ashamed of thy lewd way. |
| 28 | Et tu t'es prostituée aux fils d'Assur, parce que tu n'étais pas rassasiée; et, après t'être prostituée à eux, tu n'as pas encore été rassasiée. | Thou hast played the harlot also with the Assyrians, because thou wast insatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet thou wast not satisfied. |
| 29 | Et tu as multiplié tes prostitutions dans le pays de Chanaan jusqu'en Chaldée, et avec cela tu n'as pas encore été rassasiée. | Thou hast moreover multiplied thy whoredom unto the land of traffic, unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith. |
| 30 | Oh! que ton coeur est faible, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh, -- pour que tu aies fait toutes ces choses, ce que fait le prostituée la plus dévergondée! | How weak is thy heart, saith the Lord Jehovah, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an impudent harlot; |
| 31 | Quand tu construisais ta voûte à chaque carrefour et que tu faisais ton tertre à chaque place, tu n'étais pas comme la prostituée, car tu dédaignais le salaire; tu étais la femme adultère, | in that thou buildest thy vaulted place at the head of every way, and makest thy lofty place in every street, and hast not been as a harlot, in that thou scornest hire. |
| 32 | qui prend des étrangers à la place de son mari. | A wife that committeth adultery! that taketh strangers instead of her husband! |
| 33 | A toutes les prostituées on donne des présents; mais toi, tu as donné tes présents à tous tes amants, tu les as payés, pour qu'ils viennent vers toi, de toutes parts, pour tes prostitutions. | They give gifts to all harlots; but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and bribest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredoms. |
| 34 | Il t'est arrivé, dans tes prostitutions, le contraire de ce qui arrive aux autres femmes : personne ne te recherchait. En donnant des présents alors qu'on ne t'en faisait pas, tu as été au rebours des autres. | And thou art different from [other] women in thy whoredoms, in that none followeth thee to play the harlot; and whereas thou givest hire, and no hire is given unto thee, therefore thou art different. |
| 35 | C'est pourquoi, prostituée, écoute la parole de Yahweh : | Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of Jehovah: |
| 36 | Ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh : Parce que ton airain a été répandu et que ta nudité a été découverte, dans tes prostitutions avec tes amants et avec toutes tes abominables idoles, et à cause du sang de tes enfants que tu leur as donnés, | Thus saith the Lord Jehovah, Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness uncovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers; and because of all the idols of thy abominations, and for the blood of thy children, that thou didst give unto them; |
| 37 | à cause de cela voici que je rassemblerai tous tes amants avec lesquels tu as eu commerce, tous ceux que tu as aimés, avec tous ceux que tu as haïs; je vais les rassembler contre toi de toutes parts; je découvrirai ta nudité devant eux, et ils verront toute ta nudité. | therefore behold, I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them against thee on every side, and will uncover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness. |
| 38 | Je te jugerai selon le droit des femmes adultères et de celles qui répandent le sang; et je ferai de toi une victime sanglante de fureur et de jalousie. | And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will bring upon thee the blood of wrath and jealousy. |
| 39 | Je te livrerai entre leurs mains; ils abattront ta voûte et démoliront tes hauts lieux; ils te dépouilleront de tes vêtements, prendront tes bijoux et te laisseront nue, complètement nue. | I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thy vaulted place, and break down thy lofty places; and they shall strip thee of thy clothes, and take thy fair jewels; and they shall leave thee naked and bare. |
| 40 | Ils feront monter contre toi une assemblée; ils te lapideront et te perceront de leurs épées. | They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords. |
| 41 | Ils brûleront tes maisons par le feu et ils exécuteront contre toi des jugements, sous les yeux de beaucoup de femmes; je ferai cesser tes prostitutions, et tu ne feras plus de présents. | And they shall burn thy houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women; and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou shalt also give no hire any more. |
| 42 | J'assouvirai sur toi mon courroux, et ma jalousie s'éloignera de toi; je m'apaiserai et ne serai plus irrité. | So will I cause my wrath toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry. |
| 43 | Parce que tu ne t'es pas souvenue des jours de ta jeunesse et que tu m'as irrité par tous ces excès, voici que moi, à mon tour, je ferai retomber ta conduite sur la tête, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh; et tu ne commettras plus l'impudicité avec toutes tes abominations. | Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast raged against me in all these things; therefore, behold, I also will bring thy way upon thy head, saith the Lord Jehovah: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness with all thine abominations. |
| 44 | Voici que tous ceux qui disent des proverbes en feront à ton sujet en disant : | Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use [this] proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. |
| 45 | Telle mère, telle fille! "Tu es bien la fille de ta mère qui a rejeté son mari et ses enfants, et tu es la soeur de tes soeurs qui ont rejeté leurs maris et leurs enfants; votre mère est une Héthéenne, et votre père un Amorrhéen. | Thou art the daughter of thy mother, that loatheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, who loathed their husbands and their children: your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite. |
| 46 | Ta grande soeur, qui demeure à ta gauche, c'est Samarie avec ses filles; et ta petite soeur, qui demeure à ta droite, c'est Sodome avec ses filles. | And thine elder sister is Samaria, that dwelleth at thy left hand, she and her daughters; and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. |
| 47 | Tu n'as pas seulement marché dans leurs voies et agi selon leurs abominations : c'était trop peu; | Yet hast thou not walked in their ways, nor done after their abominations; but, as [if that were] a very little [thing], thou wast more corrupt than they in all thy ways. |
| 48 | tu t'es corrompue plus qu'elles dans toutes tes voies. Je suis vivant, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh : Sodome, ta soeur, elle et ses filles, n'ont pas fait ce que tu as fait, toi, et tes filles. | As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. |
| 49 | Voici quel fut le crime de Sodome, ta soeur : l'orgueil, l'abondance et l'insouciant repos où elle vivait avec ses filles, et elle ne soutenait pas la main du malheureux et de l'indigent. | Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and prosperous ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. |
| 50 | Elles sont devenues orgueilleuses, et elles ont commis l'abomination devant moi, et je les ai fait disparaître quand j'ai vu cela. | And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw [good]. |
| 51 | Samarie n'a pas commis la moitié de tes péchés; tu as multiplié tes abominations plus qu'elles ne l'avaient fait, et tu as justifié tes soeurs par toutes tes abominations que tu as commises. | Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters by all thine abominations which thou hast done. |
| 52 | Porte donc, toi aussi, ton opprobre, que tu rejetais sur tes soeurs, à cause de tes péchés par lesquels tu t'es rendue plus abominable qu'elles; elles sont plus justes que toi. Toi aussi, sois couverte de confusion et porte ton opprobre, puisque tu as justifié tes soeurs | Thou also, bear thou thine own shame, in that thou hast given judgment for thy sisters; through thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they, they are more righteous that thou: yea, be thou also confounded, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters. |
| 53 | Je ramènerai leurs captifs, les captifs de Sodome et de ses filles, les captifs de Samarie et de ses filles, et tes captifs parmi les leurs, | And I will turn again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them; |
| 54 | afin que tu portes ton opprobre et que tu sois confuse de tout ce que tu as fait pour les consoler. | that thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be ashamed because of all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them. |
| 55 | Ta soeur Sodome et ses filles reviendront à leur premier état, Samarie et ses filles reviendront à leur premier état; et toi et tes filles, vous reviendrez à votre premier état. | And thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate; and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate; and thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate. |
| 56 | Ta soeur Sodome n'était pas nommée par ta bouche aux jours de ton orgueil, | For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride, |
| 57 | avant que ta perversité fut mise à nu, comme au temps où tu fus outragée par les filles de la Syrie et de tous ses alentours, par les filles des Philistins qui t'insultaient autour de toi. | before thy wickedness was uncovered, as at the time of the reproach of the daughters of Syria, and of all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, that do despite unto thee round about. |
| 58 | Ton crime et les abominations, tu en as porté la peine, --oracle de Yahweh. | Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith Jehovah. |
| 59 | Car ainsi parle le Seigneur Yahweh : J'agirai avec toi comme tu as agi, toi qui as méprisé ton serment en rompant l'alliance. | For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also deal with thee as thou hast done, who hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant. |
| 60 | Mais moi, je me souviendrai de mon alliance que j'ai contractée avec toi aux jours de ta jeunesse, et j'établirai avec toi une alliance éternelle. | Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. |
| 61 | Tu te souviendras de ta conduite et tu en auras honte, quand tu recevras tes soeurs, celles qui sont plus grandes que toi avec celles qui sont plus petites que toi, et que je te les donnerai pour filles, mais non en vertu de ton alliance. | Then shalt thou remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder [sisters] and thy younger; and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant. |
| 62 | J'établirai mon alliance avec toi, et tu sauras que je suis Yahweh, | And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am Jehovah; |
| 63 | afin que tu te souviennes et que tu rougisses, afin que tu n'ouvres plus la bouche à cause de ta confusion, quand je ferai l'expiation pour toi, pour tout ce que tu as fait, --oracle du Seigneur Yahweh." | that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more, because of thy shame, when I have forgiven thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord Jehovah. |
