| 1 | And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, | La parola dell'Eterno mi fu nuovamente rivolta, dicendo: |
| 2 | Son of man, what is the vine-tree more than any tree, the vine-branch which is among the trees of the forest? | Figlio d'uomo, cos'è mai il legno della vite a confronto di tutti gli altri alberi o di qualsiasi ramo che si trova fra gli alberi della foresta? |
| 3 | Shall wood be taken thereof to make any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? | Si può forse prendere il legno per fare qualche lavoro? Si può ricavarne un piolo per appendervi qualche oggetto? |
| 4 | Behold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire hath devoured both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned: is it profitable for any work? | Ecco lo si getta nel fuoco a bruciare; il fuoco ne divora due capi e la sua parte centrale è carbonizzata. Può essere mai utile per qualche lavoro? |
| 5 | Behold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work: how much less, when the fire hath devoured it, and it is burned, shall it yet be meet for any work! | Ecco se quando era intero non serviva per alcun lavoro, quanto meno potrà servire per qualche lavoro, quando il fuoco l'ha divorato e carbonizzato. |
| 6 | Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. | Perciò, così dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Come il legno della vite fra gli alberi della foresta l'ho destinato ad essere bruciato nel fuoco, così farò con gli abitanti di Gerusalemme. |
| 7 | And I will set my face against them; they shall go forth from the fire, but the fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah, when I set my face against them. | Volgerò contro di loro la mia faccia. Sono usciti da un fuoco, ma un'altro fuoco li divorerà. Allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno, quando volgerò contro di loro la mia faccia. |
| 8 | And I will make the land desolate, because they have committed a trespass, saith the Lord Jehovah. | Così renderò il paese una desolazione, perché sono stati ripetutamente infedeli, dice il Signore, l'Eterno. |
