| 1 | Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me. | Poi vennero da me alcuni anziani d'Israele e sedettero davanti a me. |
| 2 | And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, | Allora la parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo: |
| 3 | Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? | Figlio d'uomo, questi uomini hanno eretto i loro idoli nel loro cuore e hanno posto davanti a sé l'intoppo che li fa cadere nell'iniquità. Mi lascerò dunque consultare da costoro? |
| 4 | Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; | Perciò parla e di' loro: Così dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Chiunque della casa d'Israele erige i suoi idoli nel suo cuore e pone davanti a sé l'intoppo che lo fa cadere nell'iniquità e poi viene dal profeta, gli risponderò io, l'Eterno, a proposito di questo, secondo la moltitudine dei suoi idoli |
| 5 | That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. | per far presa sui cuori di quelli della casa d'Israele che si sono allontanati da me a motivo di tutti i loro idoli. |
| 6 | Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. | Perciò di' alla casa d'Israele: Così dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Convertitevi, allontanatevi dai vostri idoli e distogliete la faccia da tutte le vostre abominazioni. |
| 7 | For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the LORD will answer him by myself: | Poiché, se un individuo qualsiasi della casa d'Israele o degli stranieri che risiedono in Israele si separa da me, erige i suoi idoli nel suo cuore e pone davanti a sé l'intoppo che lo fa cadere nell'iniquità e poi viene dal profeta per consultarmi per suo mezzo, gli risponderò io, l'Eterno da me stesso. |
| 8 | And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD. | Volgerò la mia faccia contro quell'uomo, ne farò un segno e un proverbio e lo sterminerò di mezzo al mio popolo; allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno. |
| 9 | And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. | Ma se il profeta si lascia sedurre e dice qualche parola, io l'Eterno, ho sedotto quel profeta; stenderò quindi la mia mano contro di lui e lo distruggerò di mezzo al mio popolo d'Israele. |
| 10 | And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him; | Ambedue porteranno la pena della loro iniquità: la pena del profeta sarà uguale alla pena di chi lo consulta, |
| 11 | That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord GOD. | affinché quelli della casa d'Israele, non vadano più errando lontano da me e non si contaminino più con tutte le loro trasgressioni, ma siano mio popolo e io sia il loro DIO, dice il Signore l'Eterno. |
| 12 | The word of the LORD came again to me, saying, | La parola dell'Eterno mi fu ancora rivolta, dicendo: |
| 13 | Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it: | Figlio d'uomo, se un paese pecca contro di me essendo ripetutamente infedele, io stenderò la mia mano contro di lui, gli spezzerò il sostegno del pane, gli manderò contro la fame e ne sterminerò uomini e bestie. |
| 14 | Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord GOD. | Anche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero questi tre uomini, Noè, Daniele e Giobbe per la loro giustizia salverebbero unicamente se stessi, dice il Signore, l'Eterno. |
| 15 | If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts: | Se invece facessi passare per quel paese delle bestie feroci che lo spopolassero e diventasse una desolazione, dove più nessuno passasse a motivo di quelle bestie |
| 16 | Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate. | anche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero quei tre uomini, com'è vero che io vivo, dice il Signore, l'Eterno, essi non salverebbero né figli né figlie; salverebbero unicamente se stessi, ma il paese sarebbe una desolazione. |
| 17 | Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it: | Oppure se facessi venire la spada contro quel paese e dicessi: "Passi la spada per il paese" e ne sterminasse uomini e bestie, |
| 18 | Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves. | anche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero quei tre uomini, com'è vero che io vivo, dice il Signore, l'Eterno essi non salverebbero né figli né figlie, ma salverebbero unicamente se stessi. |
| 19 | Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast: | Oppure se mandassi contro quel paese la peste e riversassi su di esso il mio furore facendo strage e sterminando uomini e bestie, |
| 20 | Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness. | anche se nel suo mezzo ci fossero Noè, Daniele e Giobbe, com'è vero che io vivo, dice il Signore, l'Eterno essi non salverebbero né figli né figlie; per la loro giustizia salverebbero unicamente se stessi. |
| 21 | For thus saith the Lord GOD; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast? | Poiché così dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Lo stesso avverrà quando manderò contro Gerusalemme, i miei quattro tremendi giudizi, la spada, la fame, le bestie feroci e la peste, per sterminare uomini e bestie. |
| 22 | Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it. | Ma ecco, vi sarà lasciato un residuo che sarà condotto fuori, figli e figlie; essi verranno da voi e voi vedrete la loro condotta e le loro azioni. Allora sarete consolati del male che ho fatto venire su Gerusalemme, per tutto ciò che ho fatto venire su di lei. |
| 23 | And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord GOD. | Essi vi consoleranno quando vedrete la loro condotta e le loro azioni. Così riconoscerete che non senza ragione ho fatto quel che ho fatto in mezzo a lei, dice il Signore, l'Eterno. |
