| 1 | And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. | Dopo questo, Mosè ed Aaronne andarono dal Faraone e gli dissero: Così dice l'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele: "Lascia andare il mio popolo, perché mi celebri una festa nel deserto". |
| 2 | And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto his voice to let Israel go? I know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go. | Ma il Faraone rispose: Chi è l'Eterno che io debba ubbidire alla sua voce e lasciar andare Israele Io non conosco l'Eterno e non lascerò andare Israele. |
| 3 | And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days` journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto Jehovah our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. | Allora essi dissero: Il DIO degli Ebrei ci è venuto incontro; ora lasciaci andare per un cammino di tre giorni nel deserto perché possiamo sacrificare all'Eterno, che è il nostro DIO, affinché egli non ci colpisca con la peste o con la spada. |
| 4 | And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, loose the people from their works? get you unto your burdens. | Il re d'Egitto disse loro: Perché mai Mosè e Aaronne, distogliete il popolo dal suo lavoro? Ritornate alle vostre fatiche!. |
| 5 | And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land are now many, and ye make them rest from their burdens. | Il Faraone disse nuovamente: Ecco, il popolo del paese è ora numeroso, e voi vorreste fargli interrompere le sue fatiche. |
| 6 | And the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying, | Così quello stesso giorno il Faraone ordinò agli oppressori del popolo e ai suoi sovrintendenti dicendo: |
| 7 | Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves. | Non date più paglia al popolo per fare i mattoni, come prima; e vadano essi stessi a raccogliere la paglia! |
| 8 | And the number of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof: for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God. | Ma imponete loro la stessa quantità di mattoni che facevano prima, senza diminuzione alcuna; poiché sono dei pigri; e per questo essi gridano, dicendo: "Andiamo a sacrificare al nostro DIO!". |
| 9 | Let heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein; and let them not regard lying words. | Sovraccaricate questi uomini di duro lavoro, ed essi lo facciano senza dar retta a parole d'inganno. |
| 10 | And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. | Allora gli oppressori del popolo e i suoi sovrintendenti uscirono e dissero al popolo: Così dice il Faraone: "Io non vi darò più paglia. |
| 11 | Go yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it: for nought of your work shall be diminished. | Andate voi stessi a procurarvi della paglia dovunque ne potete trovare, perché il vostro lavoro non sarà per nulla diminuito". |
| 12 | So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. | Così il popolo si sparse per tutto il paese d'Egitto, per raccogliere stoppia al posto della paglia. |
| 13 | And the taskmasters were urgent saying, Fulfil your works, [your] daily tasks, as when there was straw. | E i sorveglianti li sollecitavano dicendo: Ultimate il vostro lavoro giorno per giorno come quando c'era la paglia!. |
| 14 | And the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh`s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterday and to-day, in making brick as heretofore? | E i capi-squadra dei figli d'Israele, stabiliti su di loro dai sorveglianti del Faraone, furono battuti e fu loro chiesto: Perché non avete ultimato, ieri e oggi come prima, la quantità di mattoni prescritta?. |
| 15 | Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants? | Allora i capi-squadra dei figli d'Israele vennero a protestare dal Faraone, dicendo: Perché ti comporti così coi tuoi servi? |
| 16 | There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault it in thine own people. | Non si dà più paglia ai tuoi servi, e ci viene detto: "Fate dei mattoni!" Ed ecco, i tuoi servi sono battuti, ma la colpa è del tuo popolo. |
| 17 | But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to Jehovah. | Allora egli rispose: Siete pigri, molto pigri! Per questo dite: "Andiamo a sacrificare all'Eterno". |
| 18 | Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the number of bricks. | Or dunque andate a lavorare! Non vi sarà data paglia, ma consegnerete la stessa quantità di mattoni. |
| 19 | And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, when it was said, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, [your] daily tasks. | I capi-squadra dei figli d'Israele si resero conto di trovarsi nei guai, perché veniva loro detto: Non diminuite per nulla il numero dei mattoni prescritto giorno per giorno. |
| 20 | And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: | Poi, come uscivano dal Faraone, incontrarono Mosè e Aaronne, che stavano ad aspettarli, |
| 21 | and they said unto them, Jehovah look upon you, and judge: because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us. | e dissero loro: L'Eterno volga lo sguardo su di voi e giudichi, poiché ci avete resi odiosi agli occhi del Faraone e agli occhi dei suoi servi nel mettere nelle loro mani la spada per ucciderci. |
| 22 | And Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? | Allora Mosè tornò dall'Eterno e disse: Signore, perché hai messo questo popolo nei guai? Perché dunque mi hai mandato? |
| 23 | For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all. | Poiché, da quando sono andato dal Faraone, a parlare in tuo nome, egli ha fatto del male a questo popolo e tu non hai affatto liberato il tuo popolo. |
