| 1 | Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: | Mais maintenant, ô Jacob! mon serviteur, écoute; et toi Israël que j'ai élu. |
| 2 | Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. | Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, qui t'a fait et formé dès le ventre, et qui t'aide; ne crains point, ô Jacob mon serviteur! et toi Jésurun que j'ai élu. |
| 3 | For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: | Car je répandrai des eaux sur celui qui est altéré, et des rivières sur la terre sèche; je répandrai mon esprit sur ta postérité, et ma bénédiction sur ceux qui sortiront de toi. |
| 4 | And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses. | Et ils germeront comme parmi l'herbage, comme les saules auprès des eaux courantes. |
| 5 | One shall say, I am the LORD's; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel. | L'un dira; je suis à l'Eternel, et l'autre se réclamera du nom de Jacob; et un autre écrira de sa main; je suis à l'Eternel; et se surnommera du Nom d'Israël. |
| 6 | Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. | Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, le Roi d'Israël et son Rédempteur, l'Eternel des armées; je suis le premier, et je suis le dernier; et il n'y a point d'autre Dieu que moi. |
| 7 | And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. | Et qui est celui qui ait appelé comme moi, qui m'ait déclaré, et ordonné cela, depuis que j'ai établi le peuple ancien? qu'ils leur déclarent les choses à venir, les choses, dis-je, qui arriveront ci-après. |
| 8 | Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any. | Ne soyez point effrayés, et ne soyez point troublés; ne te l'ai-je pas fait entendre et déclaré dès ce temps-là? et vous m'en êtes témoins; y-a-t-il quelque autre Dieu que moi? certes il n'y a point d'autre Rocher; je n'en connais point. |
| 9 | They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. | Nul ne rentre en soi-même, et n'a ni connaissance, ni intelligence, pour dire; j'ai brûlé la moitié de ceci au feu, et même j'en ai cuit du pain sur les charbons; j'en ai rôti de la chair, et j'en ai mangé; et du reste en ferais-je une abomination? adorerais-je une branche de bois? |
| 10 | Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? | Mais qui est-ce qui a formé un Dieu Fort, et qui a fondu une image taillée, pour n'en avoir aucun profit? |
| 11 | Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. | Voici, tous ses compagnons seront honteux, car ces ouvriers-là sont d'entre les hommes; ils seront effrayés et rendus honteux tous ensemble. |
| 12 | The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint. | Le forgeron de fer prend le ciseau et travaille avec le charbon, il le forme avec des marteaux, il le fait à force de bras, même ayant faim, tellement qu'il n'en peut plus; et s'il ne boit point d'eau, il en est tout fatigué. |
| 13 | The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. | Le menuisier étend sa règle, et le crayonne avec de la craie; il le fait avec des équerres, et le forme au compas, et le fait à la ressemblance d'un homme, et le pare comme un homme, afin qu'il demeure dans la maison. |
| 14 | He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it. | Il se coupe des cèdres, et prend un cyprès, ou un chêne, qu'il a laissé croître parmi les arbres de la forêt; il plante un frêne, et la pluie le fait croître. |
| 15 | Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. | Puis il servira à l'homme pour brûler; car il en prend, et s'en chauffe; il en fait, dis-je, du feu, et en cuit du pain; il en fait aussi un Dieu, et se prosterne devant lui; il en fait une image taillée, et l'adore. |
| 16 | He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: | Il en brûle au feu une partie, et d'une autre partie il mange sa chair, laquelle il rôtit, et s'en rassasie; il s'en chauffe aussi, et il dit: ha! ha! je me suis réchauffé, j'ai vu la lueur du feu. |
| 17 | And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god. | Puis du reste il en fait un Dieu pour être son image taillée; il l'adore et se prosterne, et lui fait sa requête, et lui dit; Délivre-moi, car tu es mon Dieu. |
| 18 | They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. | Ces gens ne savent et n'entendent rien; car on leur a plâtré les yeux, afin qu'ils ne voient point; et leurs coeurs, afin qu'ils n'entendent point. |
| 19 | And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree? | Nul ne rentre en soi-même, et n'a ni connaissance, ni intelligence, pour dire; j'ai brûlé la moitié de ceci au feu, et même j'en ai cuit du pain sur les charbons; j'en ai rôti de la chair, et j'en ai mangé; et du reste en ferais-je une abomination? adorerais-je une branche de bois? |
| 20 | He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand? | Il se paît de cendre, et son coeur abusé le fait égarer; et il ne délivrera point son âme, et ne dira point; ce qui est dans ma main droite n'est-il pas une fausseté? |
| 21 | Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. | Jacob et Israël, souviens-toi de ces choses, car tu es mon serviteur; je t'ai formé, tu es mon serviteur, ô Israël! je ne te mettrai point en oubli. |
| 22 | I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. | J'ai effacé tes forfaits comme une nuée épaisse, et tes péchés, comme une nuée; retourne à moi, car je t'ai racheté. |
| 23 | Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel. | Ô cieux! réjouissez-vous avec chant de triomphe, car l'Eternel a opéré; lieux bas de la terre, jetez des cris de réjouissance; montagnes, éclatez de joie avec chant de triomphe; et vous aussi forêts, et tous les arbres qui êtes en elles, parce que l'Eternel a racheté Jacob, et s'est manifesté glorieusement en Israël. |
| 24 | Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; | Ainsi a dit l'Eternel ton Rédempteur, et celui qui t'a formé dès le ventre; je suis l'Eternel qui ai fait toutes choses, qui seul ai étendu les cieux, et qui ai par moi-même aplani la terre; |
| 25 | That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; | Qui dissipe les signes des menteurs, qui rends insensés les devins; qui renverse l'esprit des sages, et qui fais que leur science devient une folie. |
| 26 | That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof: | C'est lui qui met en exécution la parole de son serviteur, et qui accomplit le conseil de ses messagers; qui dit à Jérusalem; tu seras encore habitée; et aux villes de Juda; vous serez rebâties; et je redresserai ses lieux déserts. |
| 27 | That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers: | Qui dit au gouffre; sois asséché, et je tarirai tes fleuves. |
| 28 | That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid. | Qui dit de Cyrus; c'est mon Berger; il accomplira tout mon bon plaisir, disant même à Jérusalem; tu seras rebâtie; et au Temple; tu seras fondé. |
