| 2 | Car Yahweh est courroucé contre toutes les nations, et en fureur contre toute leur armée; il les a vouées, livrées au carnage. | For Jehovah hath indignation against all the nations, and wrath against all their host: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter. |
| 3 | Leurs morts seront jetés sans sépulture, leurs cadavres exhaleront l'infection, et les montagnes se fondront dans leur sang. | Their slain also shall be cast out, and the stench of their dead bodies shall come up; and the mountains shall be melted with their blood. |
| 4 | Toute l'armée des cieux sera réduite en poussière; les cieux seront roulés comme un livre, et toute leur armée tombera, comme tombe la feuille de la vigne, comme tombe celle du figuier. | And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll; and all their host shall fade away, as the leaf fadeth from off the vine, and as a fading [leaf] from the fig-tree. |
| 5 | "Car mon épée s'est enivrée dans les cieux, et voici qu'elle descend sur Edom, sur le peuple que j'ai voué à l'anathème, pour le juger. | For my sword hath drunk its fill in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Edom, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment. |
| 6 | L'épée de Yahweh est pleine de sang. ruisselante de graisse, du sang des agneaux et des boucs, de la graisse des reins des béliers. Car Yahweh fait un sacrifice à Bosra, et un grand carnage au pays d'Edom. | The sword of Jehovah is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams; for Jehovah hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom. |
| 7 | Avec eux tombent les buffles, et les boeufs avec les taureaux. Leur terre s'enivre de sang, et leur poussière ruisselle de graisse. | And the wild-oxen shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls: and their land shall be drunken with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness. |
| 8 | Car c'est un jour de vengeance pour Yahweh, une année de revanche pour la cause de Sion. | For Jehovah hath a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. |
| 9 | Ses torrents seront changés en poix, et sa poussière en soufre, et sa terre deviendra de la poix brûlante, | And the streams of [Edom] shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. |
| 10 | qui ne s'éteindra ni la nuit ni le jour, dont la fumée montera éternellement. D'âge en âge elle restera désolée ; à tout jamais personne n'y passera. | It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever. |
| 11 | Le pélican et le hérisson la posséderont; la chouette et le corbeau y habiteront. Et il étendra sur elle le cordeau du chaos et le niveau du vide | But the pelican and the porcupine shall possess it; and the owl and the raven shall dwell therein: and he will stretch over it the line of confusion, and the plummet of emptiness. |
| 12 | Il n'y aura plus de grands pour proclamer un roi, et tous ses princes seront anéantis. | They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there; and all its princes shall be nothing. |
| 13 | Les épines pousseront dans ses palais, les ronces et les chardons dans ses forteresses. Ce sera un repaire de chacals, et un parc pour les autruches. | And thorns shall come up in its palaces, nettles and thistles in the fortresses thereof; and it shall be a habitation of jackals, a court for ostriches. |
| 14 | Les chats et les chiens sauvages s'y rencontreront, et les satyres s'y appelleront les uns les autres. Là aussi le spectre des nuits fera sa demeure, et trouvera son lieu de repos. | And the wild beasts of the desert shall meet with the wolves, and the wild goat shall cry to his fellow; yea, the night-monster shall settle there, and shall find her a place of rest. |
| 15 | Là le serpent fera son nid et pondra, couvera et réunira ses petits sous son ombre. Là aussi se rassembleront tous les vautours. | There shall the dart-snake make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shade; yea, there shall the kites be gathered, every one with her mate. |
| 16 | Cherchez dans le livre de Yahweh, et lisez : Pas un d'eux ne manque, ni l'un ni l'autre ne fait défaut. Car c'est la bouche de Yahweh qui l'a ordonné, et son souffle qui les a rassemblés. | Seek ye out of the book of Jehovah, and read: no one of these shall be missing, none shall want her mate; for my mouth, it hath commanded, and his Spirit, it hath gathered them. |
| 17 | C'est lui qui a jeté le sort pour eux, et sa main qui leur a partagé le pays au cordeau ; à jamais ils le posséderont, d'âge en âge ils y habiteront. | And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever; from generation to generation shall they dwell therein. |
