| 1 | Woe to thee that spoilest, and thou wast not spoiled; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! when thou shalt cease to spoil, thou shalt be spoiled; and when thou shalt make an end to deal treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee. | Guai a te che devasti anche se non sei stato devastato, che agisci perfidamente anche se non ti è stata usata perfidia! | 2 | O LORD, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou their arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble. | O Eterno, abbi pietà di noi che speriamo in te. Sii il nostro braccio ogni mattina e la nostra salvezza, in tempo di avversità. |
| 3 | At the noise of the tumult the people fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations were scattered. | Al rumore di una moltitudine fuggono i popoli, quando ti levi le nazioni si disperdono. |
| 4 | And your spoil shall be gathered like the gathering of the caterpiller: as the running to and fro of locusts shall he run upon them. | Il vostro bottino sarà raccolto come si radunano i bruchi; come si precipitano le locuste così si precipiteranno su di esso. |
| 5 | The LORD is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with judgment and righteousness. | L'Eterno è esaltato perché abita in alto; egli riempie Sion di equità e di giustizia, |
| 6 | And wisdom and knowledge shall be the stability of thy times, and strength of salvation: the fear of the LORD is his treasure. | e sarà la sicurezza dei tuoi giorni, la forza della salvezza, sapienza e conoscenza; il timore dell'Eterno sarà il suo tesoro. |
| 7 | Behold, their valiant ones shall cry without: the ambassadors of peace shall weep bitterly. | Ecco, i loro eroi gridano di fuori, i messaggeri di pace piangono amaramente. |
| 8 | The highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: he hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth no man. | Le strade sono deserte, non c'è più alcun passante sulla strada. Egli ha rotto il patto, disprezza le città, non ha riguardo per alcun uomo. |

| 11 | Ye shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath, as fire, shall devour you. | Voi avete concepito pula, partorirete stoppia; il vostro fiato sarà un fuoco che vi divorerà. |
| 12 | And the people shall be as the burnings of lime: as thorns cut up shall they be burned in the fire. | I popoli saranno come fornaci da calce, come rovi tagliati saranno bruciati nel fuoco. |
| 13 | Hear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might. | O voi che siete lontani, udite ciò che ho fatto; e voi che siete vicini, riconoscete la mia potenza. |
| 14 | The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? | In Sion i peccatori sono presi da spavento, un tremore si è impadronito degli empi: Chi di noi potrà dimorare con il fuoco divorante? Chi di noi potrà dimorare con le fiamme eterne?. |
| 15 | He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; | Colui che cammina giustamente e parla rettamente, colui che disprezza i guadagni distorti, che scuote le mani per non accettare regali, che si tura gli orecchi per non udire parlare di sangue e chiude gli occhi per non vedere il male, |
| 16 | He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure. | costui dimorerà in luoghi elevati, le rocche fortificate saranno il suo rifugio; il suo pane gli sarà dato, la sua acqua gli sarà assicurata. |
| 17 | Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off. | I tuoi occhi contempleranno il re nella sua bellezza, vedranno un paese molto lontano. |
| 18 | Thine heart shall meditate terror. Where is the scribe? where is the receiver? where is he that counted the towers? | Il tuo cuore mediterà sui terrori passati: Dov'è lo scriba? Dov'è colui che pesa? Dov'è colui che conta le torri?. |
| 19 | Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand. | Tu non vedrai più quel popolo feroce, quel popolo dal linguaggio oscuro e incomprensibile, che balbetta una lingua che nessuno capisce. |
| 20 | Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken. | Contempla Sion, la città delle nostre solennità! I tuoi occhi vedranno Gerusalemme, dimora tranquilla, tenda che non sarà più rimossa, i suoi piuoli non saranno più divelti e nessuna delle sue funi sarà strappata. |
| 21 | But there the glorious LORD will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby. | Ma là l'Eterno nel suo splendore sarà per noi un luogo di fiumi e larghi corsi d'acqua, dove non giunge alcuna nave a remi e dove non passa alcun potente naviglio. |
| 22 | For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; he will save us. | Poiché l'Eterno è il nostro giudice, l'Eterno è il nostro legislatore, l'Eterno è il nostro re; egli ci salverà. |
| 23 | Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame take the prey. | Le tue corde sono allentate, non tengono saldamente l'albero e non spiegano più le vele. Allora si spartirà la preda di un ricco bottino; gli zoppi stessi prenderanno parte al saccheggio. |
| 24 | And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity. | Nessun abitante dirà: Io sono malato. Il popolo che vi abita otterrà il perdono della sua iniquità. |
