| 1 | Voici, l'Eternel s'en va rendre le pays vide, et l'épuiser; et il en renversera le dessus, et dispersera ses habitants. | Behold, Jehovah maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. |
| 2 | Et tel sera le Sacrificateur que le peuple; tel le maître que son serviteur; telle la dame que sa servante; tel le vendeur que l'acheteur; tel celui qui prête que celui qui emprunte; tel le créancier, que le débiteur. | And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress; as with the buyer, so with the seller; as with the creditor, so with the debtor; as with the taker of interest, so with the giver of interest to him. |
| 3 | Le pays sera entièrement vidé, et entièrement pillé; car l'Eternel a prononcé cet arrêt. | The earth shall be utterly emptied, and utterly laid waste; for Jehovah hath spoken this word. |
| 4 | La terre mène deuil, elle est déchue; le pays habité est devenu languissant, il est déchu; les plus distingués du peuple de la terre sont languissants. | The earth mourneth and fadeth away, the world languisheth and fadeth away, the lofty people of the earth do languish. |
| 5 | Le pays a été profané par ses habitants, qui marchent sur lui; parce qu'ils ont transgressé les lois, ils ont changé les ordonnances, et ont enfreint l'alliance éternelle. | The earth also is polluted under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, violated the statutes, broken the everlasting covenant. |
| 6 | C'est pourquoi l'exécration du serment a dévoré le pays, et ses habitants ont été mis en désolation; à cause de cela les habitants du pays sont brûlés, et peu de gens sont demeurés de reste. | Therefore hath the curse devoured the earth, and they that dwell therein are found guilty: therefore the inhabitants of the earth are burned, and few men left. |
| 7 | Le vin excellent a mené deuil, la vigne languit, tous ceux qui avaient le coeur joyeux soupirent. | The new wine mourneth, the vine languisheth, all the merry-hearted do sigh. |
| 8 | La joie des tambours a cessé; le bruit de ceux qui s'égayent est fini; la joie de la harpe a cessé. | The mirth of tabrets ceaseth, the noise of them that rejoice endeth, the joy of the harp ceaseth. |
| 9 | On ne boira plus de vin avec des chansons; la cervoise sera amère à ceux qui la boivent. | They shall not drink wine with a song; strong drink shall be bitter to them that drink it. |
| 10 | La ville défigurée a été ruinée, toute maison est fermée, tellement que personne n'y entre. | The waste city is broken down; every house is shut up, that no man may come in. |
| 11 | La clameur est dans les places à cause que le vin a manqué, toute la joie est tournée en obscurité, l'allégresse du pays s'en est allée. | There is a crying in the streets because of the wine; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone. |
| 12 | La désolation est demeurée dans la ville, et la porte est frappée d'une ruine éclatante. | In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction. |
| 13 | Car il arrivera au milieu de la terre, et parmi les peuples, comme quand on secoue l'olivier, et comme quand on grappille après avoir achevé de vendanger. | For thus shall it be in the midst of the earth among the peoples, as the shaking of an olive-tree, as the gleanings when the vintage is done. |
| 14 | Ceux-ci élèveront leur voix, ils se réjouiront avec chant de triomphe, et s'égayeront de devers la mer, à cause de la majesté de l'Eternel. | These shall lift up their voice, they shall shout; for the majesty of Jehovah they cry aloud from the sea. |
| 15 | C'est pourquoi glorifiez l'Eternel dans les vallées, le Nom de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, dans les Iles de la mer. | Wherefore glorify ye Jehovah in the east, even the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel, in the isles of the sea. |
| 16 | Nous avions entendu du bout de la terre des cantiques qui portaient que le Juste était plein de noblesse; mais j'ai dit: Maigreur sur moi! maigreur sur moi! Malheur à moi! les perfides ont agi perfidement; et ils ont imité la mauvaise foi des perfides. | From the uttermost part of the earth have we heard songs: Glory to the righteous. But I said, I pine away, I pine away, woe is me! the treacherous have dealt treacherously; yea, the treacherous have dealt very treacherously. |
| 17 | La frayeur, la fosse, et le piège sont sur toi, habitant du pays. | Fear, and the pit, and the snare, are upon thee, O inhabitant of the earth. |
| 18 | Et il arrivera que celui qui s'enfuira à cause du bruit de la frayeur, tombera dans la fosse; et celui qui sera remonté hors de la fosse, sera attrapé au filet; car les bondes d'en haut sont ouvertes, et les fondements de la terre tremblent. | And it shall come to pass, that he who fleeth from the noise of the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that cometh up out of the midst of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for the windows on high are opened, and the foundations of the earth tremble. |
| 19 | La terre s'est entièrement brisée, la terre s'est entièrement écrasée, la terre s'est entièrement remuée de sa place. | The earth is utterly broken, the earth is rent asunder, the earth is shaken violently. |
| 20 | La terre chancellera entièrement comme un homme ivre, et sera transportée comme une loge, et son forfait s'appesantira sur elle, tellement qu'elle tombera, et ne se relèvera plus. | The earth shall stagger like a drunken man, and shall sway to and fro like a hammock; and the transgression thereof shall be heavy upon it, and it shall fall, and not rise again. |
| 21 | Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que l'Eternel visitera dans un lieu élevé l'armée superbe, et les Rois de la terre, sur la terre. | And it shall come to pass in that day, that Jehovah will punish the host of the high ones on high, and the kings of the earth upon the earth. |
| 22 | Et ils seront assemblés en troupe comme des prisonniers dans une fosse; et ils seront enfermés dans une prison, et après plusieurs jours ils seront visités. | And they shall be gathered together, as prisoners are gathered in the pit, and shall be shut up in the prison; and after many days shall they be visited. |
| 23 | La lune rougira, et le soleil sera honteux, quand l'Eternel des armées régnera en la montagne de Sion, et à Jérusalem; et ce ne sera que gloire en la présence de ses Anciens. | Then the moon shall be confounded, and the sun ashamed; for Jehovah of hosts will reign in mount Zion, and in Jerusalem; and before his elders shall be glory. |
