| 2 | cité bruyante, pleine de tumulte, ville joyeuse ? Tes morts n'ont pas péri par l'épée; et ne sont pas tombés dans le combat. | O thou that art full of shoutings, a tumultuous city, a joyous town; thy slain are not slain with the sword, neither are they dead in battle. |
| 3 | Tes chefs ont fui tous ensemble, ils ont été pris sans qu'on ait tiré de l'arc; tous tes citoyens ont été pris ensemble, comme ils fuyaient au loin. | All thy rulers fled away together, they were bound by the archers; all that were found of thee were bound together; they fled afar off. |
| 4 | C'est pourquoi j'ai dit : "Détournez de moi vos regards Que je pleure amèrement! Ne vous empressez pas à me consoler sur la ruine de la fille de mon peuple." | Therefore said I, Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; labor not to comfort me for the destruction of the daughter of my people. |
| 5 | Car c'est un jour de confusion, d'écrasement, de perplexité, envoyé par le Seigneur Yahweh des années, dans la vallée des visions ; on démolit la muraille, on entend des cris vers la montagne. | For it is a day of discomfiture, and of treading down, and of perplexity, from the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, in the valley of vision; a breaking down of the walls, and a crying to the mountains. |
| 6 | Elam a pris le carquois, il vient avec des chars et des cavaliers, et Kir a tiré le bouclier de son enveloppe. | And Elam bare the quiver, with chariots of men [and] horsemen; and Kir uncovered the shield. |
| 7 | Tes plus belles vallées sont remplies de chars, et les cavaliers sont postés devant tes portes ; on ôte à Juda son voile. | And it came to pass, that thy choicest valleys were full of chariots, and the horsemen set themselves in array at the gate. |
| 8 | Et en ce jour-là tu regardes vers l'arsenal du palais de la forêt; | And he took away the covering of Judah; and thou didst look in that day to the armor in the house of the forest. |
| 9 | et les brèches de la cité de David, vous voyez qu'elles sont nombreuses. Et vous avez recueilli les eaux de l'étang inférieur; | And ye saw the breaches of the city of David, that they were many; and ye gathered together the waters of the lower pool; |
| 10 | vous avez compté les maisons de Jérusalem, et vous avez démoli les maisons pour réparer les murailles. | and ye numbered the houses of Jerusalem, and ye brake down the houses to fortify the wall; |
| 11 | Vous avez fait un réservoir entre les deux murs, pour les eaux du vieil étang. Mais vous n'avez pas regardé vers Celui qui a fait cela, et vous n'avez pas vu Celui qui l'a préparé de loin. | ye made also a reservoir between the two walls for the water of the old pool. But ye looked not unto him that had done this, neither had ye respect unto him that purposed it long ago. |
| 12 | Le Seigneur Yahweh des armées vous appelait, en ce jour-là, à pleurer et à vous lamenter, à raser votre tête et à ceindre le sac. | And in that day did the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, call to weeping, and to mourning, and to baldness, and to girding with sackcloth: |
| 13 | Et voici la fête, la réjouissance; on égorge les boeufs, on tue des brebis, on se gorge de viandes et on boit du vin, "Mangeons, et buvons, car demain nous mourrons!" | and behold, joy and gladness, slaying oxen and killing sheep, eating flesh and drinking wine: let us eat and drink, for to-morrow we shall die. |
| 14 | Yahweh des armées l'a révélé à mes oreilles : Ce péché ne vous sera pas remis jusqu'à ce que vous mourriez, dit le Seigneur, Yahweh des armées. | And Jehovah of hosts revealed himself in mine ears, Surely this iniquity shall not be forgiven you till ye die, saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts. |
| 15 | Ainsi a parlé le Seigneur Yahweh des armées : Va trouver cet intendant, Sobna, le préfet du palais, et dis-lui : | Thus saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, Go, get thee unto this treasurer, even unto Shebna, who is over the house, [and say], |
| 16 | "Qu'as-tu à faire ici, et qui es-tu ici, que tu te creuses ici un sépulcre, toi qui te creuses un sépulcre sur un lieu élevé, qui te tailles dans le roc une demeure | What doest thou here? and whom has thou here, that thou hast hewed thee out here a sepulchre? hewing him out a sepulchre on high, graving a habitation for himself in the rock! |
| 17 | Voici que Yahweh va te lancer d'un bras viril ; | Behold, Jehovah, like a [strong] man, will hurl thee away violently; yea, he will wrap thee up closely. |
| 18 | il va te faire tourner, il te fera rouler avec force, rouler comme une boule, sur une vaste plaine. Là tu mourras, là seront tes chars magnifiques, ô l'opprobre de la maison de ton maître. | He will surely wind thee round and round, [and toss thee] like a ball into a large country; there shalt thou die, and there shall be the chariots of thy glory, thou shame of thy lord`s house. |
| 19 | Je te chasserai de ton poste, Yahweh t'arrachera de ta place." | And I will thrust thee from thine office; and from thy station shalt thou be pulled down. |
| 20 | Et il arrivera en ce jour-là : J'appellerai mon serviteur Eliacim, fils d'Helcias, | And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will call my servant Eliakim the son of Hilkiah: |
| 21 | je le revêtirai de ta tunique, et je le ceindrai de ton écharpe; je mettrai ton autorité entre ses mains ; et il sera un père pour les habitants de Jérusalem, et pour la maison de Juda. | and I will cloth him with thy robe, and strengthen him with thy girdle, and I will commit thy government into his hand; and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. |
| 22 | Je mettrai sur son épaule la clef de la maison de David, il ouvrira, et personne ne fermera; il fermera, et personne n'ouvrira. | And the key of the house of David will I lay upon his shoulder; and he shall open, and none shall shut; and he shall shut, and none shall open. |
| 23 | Je le planterai comme un clou en un lieu solide, et il deviendra un trône de gloire pour la maison de son père. | And I will fasten him as a nail in a sure place; and he shall be for a throne of glory to his father`s house. |
| 24 | A lui sera suspendue toute la gloire de la maison de son père, les fils et les petits-fils, tous les plus petits vases, depuis la coupe jusqu'aux jarres. | And they shall hang upon him all the glory of his father`s house, the offspring and the issue, every small vessel, from the cups even to all the flagons. |
| 25 | En ce jour-là, -- oracle de Yahweh des armées, le clou planté en un lieu solide sera ôté; il sera arraché et tombera, et le fardeau qu'il portait sera détruit ; car Yahweh a parlé. | In that day, saith Jehovah of hosts, shall the nail that was fastened in a sure place give way; and it shall be hewn down, and fall; and the burden that was upon it shall be cut off; for Jehovah hath spoken it. |
