| 3 | Et que ferez-vous au jour de la visitation, et de la ruine éclatante qui viendra de loin? vers qui recourrez-vous pour avoir du secours, et où laisserez-vous votre gloire? | And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory? |
| 4 | Sans qu'aucun soit courbé sous les prisonniers, ils tomberont même sous ceux qui auront été tués. Malgré tout cela il ne fera point cesser sa colère, mais sa main sera encore étendue. | They shall only bow down under the prisoners, and shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still. |
| 5 | Malheur à Assur, la verge de ma colère; quoique le bâton qui est en leur main soit mon indignation. | Ho Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, the staff in whose hand is mine indignation! |
| 6 | Je l'enverrai contre la nation hypocrite, et je le dépêcherai contre le peuple de ma fureur, afin qu'il fasse un grand butin, et un grand pillage, et qu'il le foule comme la boue des rues. | I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets. |
| 7 | Mais il ne l'estimera pas ainsi, et son coeur ne le pensera pas ainsi; mais il aura en son coeur de détruire et d'exterminer beaucoup de nations. | Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off nations not a few. |
| 8 | Car il dira; mes Princes ne sont-ils pas autant de Rois? | For he saith, Are not my princes all of them kings? |
| 9 | Calno, n'est-elle pas comme Carchémis? Hamath, n'est-elle pas comme Arpad? et Samarie, n'est-elle pas comme Damas? | Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus? |
| 10 | Ainsi que ma main a soumis les Royaumes qui avaient des idoles, et desquels les images taillées valaient plus que celles de Jérusalem et de Samarie; | As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria; |
| 11 | Ne ferai-je pas aussi à Jérusalem et à ses dieux, comme j'ai fait à Samarie et à ses idoles? | shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols? |
| 12 | Mais il arrivera que quand le Seigneur aura achevé toute son oeuvre dans la montagne de Sion et à Jérusalem, j'examinerai le fruit de la grandeur du coeur du Roi d'Assyrie, et la gloire de la fierté de ses yeux. | Wherefore it shall come to pass, that, when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks. |
| 13 | Parce qu'il aura dit: je l'ai fait par la force de ma main, et par ma sagesse, car je suis intelligent; j'ai ôté les bornes des peuples, et j'ai pillé ce qu'ils avaient de plus précieux, et comme puissant j'ai fait descendre ceux qui étaient assis. | For he hath said, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I have understanding: and I have removed the bounds of the peoples, and have robbed their treasures, and like a valiant man I have brought down them that sit [on thrones]: |
| 14 | Et ma main a trouvé comme un nid les richesses des peuples; et ainsi qu'on rassemble les oeufs délaissés, ainsi ai-je rassemblé toute la terre, et il n'y a eu personne qui ait remué l'aile, ou qui ait ouvert le bec, ou qui ait grommelé. | and my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the peoples; and as one gathereth eggs that are forsaken, have I gathered all the earth: and there was none that moved the wing, or that opened the mouth, or chirped. |
| 15 | La cognée se glorifiera-t-elle contre celui qui en coupe? ou la scie se magnifiera-t-elle contre celui qui la remue? comme si la verge se remuait contre ceux qui la lèvent en haut, et que le bâton s'élevât, comme s'il n'était pas du bois. | Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? shall the saw magnify itself against him that wieldeth it? as if a rod should wield them that lift it up, [or] as if a staff should lift up [him that is] not wood. |
| 16 | C'est pourquoi le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées enverra la maigreur sur ses hommes gras, et par le dessous de sa gloire il allumera un embrasement, tel que l'embrasement d'un feu. | Therefore will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory there shall be kindled a burning like the burning of fire. |
| 17 | Car la lumière d'Israël sera un feu, et son Saint sera une flamme, qui embrasera et consumera ses épines et ses ronces tout en un jour. | And the light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day. |
| 18 | Et il consumera la gloire de sa forêt, et de son Carmel, depuis l'âme jusqu'à la chair; et il en sera comme quand celui qui porte l'étendart est défait. | And he will consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and it shall be as when a standard-bearer fainteth. |
| 19 | Et le reste des arbres de sa forêt seront aisés à compter, tellement qu'un enfant les mettrait bien en écrit. | And the remnant of the trees of his forest shall be few, so that a child may write them. |
| 20 | Et il arrivera en ce jour-là que le résidu d'Israël, et ceux qui seront réchappés de la maison de Jacob, ne s'appuieront plus sur celui qui les frappait, mais ils s'appuieront en vérité sur l'Eternel, le Saint d'Israël. | And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and they that are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again lean upon him that smote them, but shall lean upon Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, in truth. |
| 21 | Le résidu sera converti, le résidu, dis-je, de Jacob sera converti au Dieu Fort et puissant. | A remnant shall return, [even] the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God. |
| 22 | Car, ô Israël! quand ton peuple serait comme le sablon de la mer, un résidu en sera converti, mais la consomption déterminée fera déborder la justice. | For though thy people, Israel, be as the sand of the sea, [only] a remnant of them shall return: a destruction [is] determined, overflowing with righteousness. |
| 23 | Car le Seigneur l'Eternel des armées s'en va faire une consomption, même déterminée, au milieu de toute la terre. | For a full end, and that determined, will the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, make in the midst of all the earth. |
| 24 | C'est pourquoi ainsi a dit le Seigneur l'Eternel des armées; mon peuple qui habites dans Sion, ne crains point le Roi d'Assyrie; il te frappera de la verge, et il lèvera son bâton sur toi à la manière d'Egypte. | Therefore thus saith the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian, though he smite thee with the rod, and lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt. |
| 25 | Mais encore un peu de temps, un peu de temps, et mon indignation sera consommée, et ma colère sera à leur destruction. | For yet a very little while, and the indignation [against thee] shall be accomplished, and mine anger [shall be directed] to his destruction. |
| 26 | Et l'Eternel des armées lèvera sur lui un fouet, qui sera comme la plaie de Madian au rocher d'Horeb; et comme son bâton sur la mer, lequel il élèvera aussi comme contre les Egyptiens. | And Jehovah of hosts will stir up against him a scourge, as in the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and his rod will be over the sea, and he will lift it up after the manner of Egypt. |
| 27 | Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, que son fardeau sera ôté de dessus ton épaule, et son joug de dessus ton cou; et le joug sera rompu à cause de l'onction. | And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall depart from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed by reason of fatness. |
| 28 | Il est venu à Hajath, il est passé à Migron, et il a mis son bagage à Michmas. | He is come to Aiath, he is passed through Migron; at Michmash he layeth up his baggage; |
| 29 | Ils ont passé le gué; ils ont fait leur gîte à Guébah, Rama s'est effrayée, Guibha-Saül s'en est fuie. | they are gone over the pass; they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah trembleth; Gibeah of Saul is fled. |
| 30 | Fille de Gallim, élève ta voix, pauvre Hanathoth, fais-toi ouïr vers Laïs. | Cry aloud with thy voice, O daughter of Gallim! hearken, O Laishah! O thou poor Anathoth! |
| 31 | Madména s'est écartée, les habitants de Guébim s'en sont fuis en foule. | Madmenah is a fugitive; the inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety. |
| 32 | Encore un jour, il s'arrêtera à Nob; il lèvera sa main contre la montagne de la fille de Sion, contre le coteau de Jérusalem. | This very day shall he halt at Nob: he shaketh his hand at the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem. |
| 33 | Voici, le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées ébranchera les rameaux avec force, et ceux qui sont les plus haut élevés, seront coupés; et les haut montés seront abaissés. | Behold, the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, will lop the boughs with terror: and the high of stature shall be hewn down, and the lofty shall be brought low. |
| 34 | Et il taillera avec le fer les lieux les plus épais de la forêt, et le Liban tombera avec impétuosité. | And he will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one. |
