| 3 | For a dream cometh with a multitude of business, and a fool`s voice with a multitude of words. | Poiché con le molte occupazioni vengono i sogni, e con le molte parole la voce dello stolto. |
| 4 | When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou vowest. | Quando hai fatto un voto a DIO non indugiare ad adempierlo, perché egli non si compiace degli stolti; adempi il voto che hai fatto. |
| 5 | Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. | E' meglio non fare voti, che farli e poi non adempierli. |
| 6 | Suffer not thy mouth to cause thy flesh to sin; neither say thou before the angel, that is was an error: wherefore should God be angry at thy voice, and destroy the work of thy hands? | Non lasciare che la tua bocca porti il tuo corpo a peccare, e non dire davanti al messaggero di Dio: E' stato uno sbaglio. | 11 | When goods increase, they are increased that eat them; and what advantage is there to the owner thereof, save the beholding [of them] with his eyes? | Quando crescono i beni, aumentano anche quelli che li divorano; e quale vantaggio ne hanno i proprietari, se non di vederli con i loro occhi? |
| 12 | The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much; but the fulness of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. | Dolce è il sonno del lavoratore, sia che mangi poco o molto; ma la sazietà del ricco non lo lascia dormire. |
| 13 | There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, [namely], riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt: | C'è un altro deplorevole male che ho visto sotto il sole: ricchezze conservate per il loro proprietario a suo danno. |
| 14 | and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand. | Quelle ricchezze vanno perdute per un cattivo affare, e così nelle mani del figlio che ha generato non resta più nulla. |
| 15 | As he came forth from his mother`s womb, naked shall he go again as he came, and shall take nothing for his labor, which he may carry away in his hand. | Com'era uscito dal grembo di sua madre, così nudo tornerà per andare com'era venuto, senza prendere nulla dalla sua fatica che possa portare via con sé. |
| 16 | And this also is a grievous evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that he laboreth for the wind? | Anche questo è un male deplorevole: che se ne vada esattamente come era venuto; e quale vantaggio ne ha dall'aver faticato per il vento? |
| 17 | All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he is sore vexed, and hath sickness and wrath. | Inoltre egli mangia tutti i giorni della sua vita nelle tenebre, e ha molte afflizioni, infermità e crucci. |
| 18 | Behold, that which I have seen to be good and to be comely is for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy good in all his labor, wherein he laboreth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him: for this is his portion. | Ecco ciò che ho compreso: è bene e opportuno per l'uomo mangiare, bere e godere del bene di tutta la fatica che compie sotto il sole, tutti i giorni di vita che DIO gli dà, perché questa è la sua parte. |
