| 2 | Et connaissez aujourd'hui que ce ne sont pas vos enfants qui ont connu, et qui ont vu le châtiment de l'Eternel votre Dieu, sa grandeur, sa main forte, et son bras étendu; | And know ye this day: for [I speak] not with your children that have not known, and that have not seen the chastisement of Jehovah your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his outstretched arm, |
| 3 | Et ses signes, et les oeuvres qu'il a faites au milieu de l'Egypte, contre Pharaon Roi d'Egypte, et contre tout son pays; | and his signs, and his works, which he did in the midst of Egypt unto Pharaoh the king of Egypt, and unto all his land; |
| 4 | Et ce qu'il a fait à l'armée d'Egypte, à ses chevaux et à ses chariots, quand il a fait que les eaux de la mer Rouge les ont couverts, lorsqu'ils vous poursuivaient; car l'Eternel les a détruits jusqu'à ce jour; | and what he did unto the army of Egypt, unto their horses, and to their chariots; how he made the water of the Red Sea to overflow them as they pursued after you, and how Jehovah hath destroyed them unto this day; |
| 5 | Et ce qu'il a fait pour vous dans ce désert, jusqu'à ce que vous êtes arrivés en ce lieu-ci; | and what he did unto you in the wilderness, until ye came unto this place; |
| 6 | Et ce qu'il a fait à Dathan, et à Abiram, enfants d'Eliab, fils de Ruben, et comment la terre ouvrit sa bouche, et les engloutit avec leurs familles et leurs tentes, et tout ce qui était en leur puissance, au milieu de tout Israël; | and what he did unto Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab, the son of Reuben; how the earth opened its mouth, and swallowed them up, and their households, and their tents, and every living thing that followed them, in the midst of all Israel: |
| 7 | Mais ce sont vos yeux qui ont vu toutes les grandes oeuvres que l'Eternel a faites. | but your eyes have seen all the great work of Jehovah which he did. |
| 8 | Vous garderez donc tous les commandements que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, afin que vous soyez fortifiés, et que vous entriez en possession du pays, dans lequel vous allez passer pour le posséder. | Therefore shall ye keep all the commandment which I command thee this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go over to possess it; |
| 9 | Et afin que vous prolongiez vos jours sur la terre que l'Eternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, et à leur postérité, terre où coulent le lait et le miel. | and that ye may prolong your days in the land, which Jehovah sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land flowing with milk and honey. |
| 10 | Car le pays où tu vas entrer pour le posséder n'est pas comme le pays d'Egypte, duquel vous êtes sortis, où tu semais ta semence, et l'arrosais avec ton pied, comme un jardin à herbes. | For the land, whither thou goest in to possess it, is not as the land of Egypt, from whence ye came out, where thou sowedst thy seed, and wateredst it with thy foot, as a garden of herbs; |
| 11 | Mais le pays dans lequel vous allez passer pour le posséder, est un pays de montagnes et de campagnes, et il est abreuvé d'eau selon qu'il pleut des cieux. | but the land, whither ye go over to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, [and] drinketh water of the rain of heaven, |
| 12 | C'est un pays dont l'Eternel ton Dieu a soin, sur lequel l'Eternel ton Dieu a continuellement ses yeux, depuis le commencement de l'année jusqu'à la fin. | a land which Jehovah thy God careth for: the eyes of Jehovah thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year. |
| 13 | Il arrivera donc que si vous obéissez exactement à mes commandements, lesquels je vous prescris aujourd'hui, que vous aimiez l'Eternel votre Dieu, et que vous le serviez de tout votre coeur et de toute votre âme, | And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love Jehovah your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, |
| 14 | Alors je donnerai la pluie telle qu'il faut à votre pays en sa saison, la pluie de la première et de la dernière saison, et tu recueilleras ton froment, ton vin excellent, et ton huile. | that I will give the rain of your land in its season, the former rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy grain, and thy new wine, and thine oil. |
| 15 | Je ferai croître aussi dans ton champ de l'herbe pour ton bétail; tu mangeras et tu seras rassasié. | And I will give grass in thy fields for thy cattle, and thou shalt eat and be full. |
| 16 | Prenez garde à vous, de peur que votre coeur ne soit séduit, et que vous ne vous détourniez, et serviez d'autres dieux, et vous prosterniez devant eux; | Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and ye turn aside, and serve other gods, and worship them; |
| 17 | Et que la colère de l'Eternel ne s'enflamme contre vous, et qu'il ne ferme les cieux, tellement qu'il n'y ait point de pluie; et que la terre ne donne point son fruit; et que vous ne périssiez aussitôt sur ce bon pays que l'Eternel vous donne. | and the anger of Jehovah be kindled against you, and he shut up the heavens, so that there shall be no rain, and the land shall not yield its fruit; and ye perish quickly from off the good land which Jehovah giveth you. |
| 18 | Mettez donc dans votre coeur et dans votre entendement ces paroles que je vous dis, et liez-les pour signe sur vos mains, et qu'elles soient pour fronteaux entre vos yeux, | Therefore shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul; and ye shall bind them for a sign upon your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes. |
| 19 | Et enseignez-les à vos enfants, en vous en entretenant, soit que tu te tiennes dans ta maison, soit que tu voyages, soit que tu te couches, soit que tu te lèves. | And ye shall teach them your children, talking of them, when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. |
| 20 | Tu les écriras aussi sur les poteaux de ta maison, et sur tes portes. | And thou shalt write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates; |
| 21 | Afin que vos jours et les jours de vos enfants soient multipliés sur la terre que l'Eternel a juré à vos pères de leur donner, qu'ils soient, dis-je, multipliés comme les jours des cieux sur la terre. | that your days may be multiplied, and the days of your children, in the land which Jehovah sware unto your fathers to give them, as the days of the heavens above the earth. |
| 22 | Car si vous gardez soigneusement tous ces commandements que je vous ordonne de faire, aimant l'Eternel votre Dieu, marchant dans toutes ses voies, et vous attachant à lui; | For if ye shall diligently keep all this commandment which I command you, to do it, to love Jehovah your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him; |
| 23 | Alors l'Eternel chassera toutes ces nations-là de devant vous et vous posséderez le pays des nations qui sont plus grandes et plus puissantes que vous. | then will Jehovah drive out all these nations from before you, and ye shall dispossess nations greater and mightier than yourselves. |
| 24 | Tout lieu où vous aurez mis la plante de votre pied sera à vous; vos frontières seront du désert au Liban; et depuis le fleuve, qui est le fleuve d'Euphrate, jusqu'à la mer d'Occident. | Every place whereon the sole of your foot shall tread shall be yours: from the wilderness, and Lebanon, from the river, the river Euphrates, even unto the hinder sea shall be your border. |
| 25 | Nul ne pourra se soutenir devant vous; l'Eternel votre Dieu mettra la frayeur et la terreur qu'on aura de vous, par toute la terre sur laquelle vous marcherez, ainsi qu'il vous en a parlé. | There shall no man be able to stand before you: Jehovah your God shall lay the fear of you and the dread of you upon all the land that ye shall tread upon, as he hath spoken unto you. |
| 26 | Regardez, je vous propose aujourd'hui la bénédiction et la malédiction; | Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: |
| 27 | La bénédiction, si vous obéissez aux commandements de l'Eternel votre Dieu, lesquels je vous prescris aujourd'hui; | the blessing, if ye shall hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah your God, which I command you this day; |
| 28 | La malédiction, si vous n'obéissez point aux commandements de l'Eternel votre Dieu, et si vous vous détournez de la voie que je vous prescris aujourd'hui, pour marcher après d'autres dieux que vous n'avez point connus. | and the curse, if ye shall not hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. |
| 29 | Et quand l'Eternel ton Dieu t'aura fait entrer au pays où tu vas pour le posséder, tu prononceras alors les bénédictions, étant sur la montagne de Guérizim, et les malédictions, étant sur la montagne de Hébal. | And it shall come to pass, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, that thou shalt set the blessing upon mount Gerizim, and the curse upon mount Ebal. |
| 30 | Ces montagnes ne sont-elles pas au delà du Jourdain, sur le chemin qui tire vers le soleil couchant, au pays des Cananéens qui demeurent en la campagne, vis-à-vis de Guilgal, près des plaines de Moré? | Are they not beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites that dwell in the Arabah, over against Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh? |
| 31 | Car vous allez passer le Jourdain, pour entrer au pays que l'Eternel votre Dieu vous donne pour le posséder; vous le posséderez, et vous y habiterez. | For ye are to pass over the Jordan to go in to possess the land which Jehovah your God giveth you, and ye shall possess it, and dwell therein. |
| 32 | Vous prendrez donc garde de faire tous les statuts et les droits que je vous propose aujourd'hui. | And ye shall observe to do all the statutes and the ordinances which I set before you this day. |
