| 8 | The king answered and said, I know of a certainty that ye would gain time, because ye see the thing is gone from me. | Il re allora rispose e disse: Mi rendo chiaramente conto che voi intendete guadagnare tempo, perché vedete che la mia decisione è presa; |
| 9 | But if ye make not known unto me the dream, there is but one law for you; for ye have prepared lying and corrupt words to speak before me, till the time be changed: therefore tell me the dream, and I shall know that ye can show me the interpretation thereof. | se non mi fate conoscere il sogno, c'è un'unica sentenza per voi; vi siete messi d'accordo per dire davanti a me parole bugiarde e perverse, nella speranza che i tempi mutino. | 10 | The Chaldeans answered before the king, and said, There is not a man upon the earth that can show the king`s matter, forasmuch as no king, lord, or ruler, hath asked such a thing of any magician, or enchanter, or Chaldean. | I Caldei risposero davanti al re e dissero: Non c'è alcun uomo sulla terra che possa far sapere ciò che il re domanda. Infatti nessun re, signore o sovrano ha mai chiesto una cosa simile ad alcun mago, astrologo o Caldeo. |
| 11 | And it is a rare thing that the king requireth, and there is no other that can show it before the king, except the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh. | La cosa che il re domanda è troppo difficile e non c'è nessuno che la possa far sapere al re, se non gli dèi, la cui dimora non è fra i mortali. |
| 12 | For this cause the king was angry and very furious, and commanded to destroy all the wise men of Babylon. | A questo il re si adirò, montò in collera e ordinò di sterminare tutti i savi di Babilonia. |
| 13 | So the decree went forth, and the wise men were to be slain; and they sought Daniel and his companions to be slain. | Così fu promulgato il decreto in base al quale i savi dovevano essere uccisi, e cercavano Daniele e i suoi compagni per uccidere anche loro. |
| 14 | Then Daniel returned answer with counsel and prudence to Arioch the captain of the king`s guard, who was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon; | Allora Daniele si rivolse con parole prudenti e sagge ad Ariok, capitano delle guardie del re, il quale era uscito per uccidere i savi di Babilonia. |
| 15 | he answered and said to Arioch the king`s captain, Wherefore is the decree so urgent from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. | Prese la parola e disse ad Ariok, capitano del re: Perché mai un decreto così duro da parte del re?. Allora Ariok fece sapere la cosa a Daniele. |
| 16 | And Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would appoint him a time, and he would show the king the interpretation. | Così Daniele entrò dal re e gli chiese di dargli tempo, perché potesse far conoscere al re l'interpretazione del sogno. |
| 17 | Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: | Allora Daniele andò a casa sua e fece sapere la cosa ai suoi compagni Hananiah, Mishael e Azaria |
| 18 | that they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his companions should nor perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. | perché implorassero misericordia dal Dio del cielo riguardo a questo segreto, perché Daniele e i suoi compagni non fossero messi a morte col resto dei savi di Babilonia. |
| 19 | Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a vision of the night. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven. | Allora il segreto fu rivelato a Daniele in una visione notturna. Così Daniele benedisse il Dio del cielo. |
| 20 | Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever; for wisdom and might are his. | Daniele prese a dire: Sia benedetto il nome di Dio per sempre, eternamente, perché a lui appartengono la sapienza e la forza. |
| 21 | And he changeth the times and the seasons; he removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that have understanding; | Egli muta i tempi e le stagioni, depone i re e li Innalza, dà la sapienza ai savi e la conoscenza a quelli che hanno intendimento. |
| 22 | he revealeth the deep and secret things; he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. | Egli rivela le cose profonde e segrete, conosce ciò che è nelle tenebre, e la luce dimora con lui. |
| 23 | I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast now made known unto me what we desired of thee; for thou hast made known unto us the king`s matter. | O Dio dei miei padri, ti ringrazio e ti lodo, perché mi hai dato sapienza e forza e mi hai fatto conoscere ciò che ti abbiamo chiesto, facendoci conoscere la cosa richiesta dal re. |
| 24 | Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he went and said thus unto him: Destroy not the wise men of Babylon; bring me in before the king, and I will show unto the king the interpretation. | Perciò Daniele entrò da Ariok, a cui il re aveva affidato l'incarico di far perire i savi di Babilonia, andò e gli disse così: Non far perire i savi di Babilonia! Conducimi davanti al re e darò al re l'interpretazione. |
| 25 | Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of the children of the captivity of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation. | Allora Ariok condusse in fretta Daniele davanti al re e gli parlò così: Ho trovato un uomo fra i Giudei in cattività, che farà conoscere al re l'interpretazione. |
| 26 | The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? | Il re prese a dire a Daniele, che si chiamava Beltshatsar,: Sei capace di farmi conoscere il sogno che ho fatto e la sua interpretazione?. |
| 27 | Daniel answered before the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded can neither wise men, enchanters, magicians, nor soothsayers, show unto the king; | Daniele rispose in presenza del re e disse: Il segreto di cui il re ha chiesto l'interpretazione, non può essere spiegato al re né da saggi, né da astrologi, né da maghi né da indovini. |
| 28 | but there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and he hath made known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these: | Ma c'è un Dio nel cielo che rivela i segreti, ed egli ha fatto conoscere al re Nebukadnetsar ciò che avverrà negli ultimi giorni. | 29 | as for thee, O king, thy thoughts came [into thy mind] upon thy bed, what should come to pass hereafter; and he that revealeth secrets hath made known to thee what shall come to pass. | O re, i pensieri che ti sono venuti sul tuo letto riguardano ciò che deve avvenire d'ora in poi; e colui che rivela i segreti ti ha fatto conoscere ciò che avverrà. |
| 30 | But as for me, this secret is not revealed to me for any wisdom that I have more than any living, but to the intent that the interpretation may be made known to the king, and that thou mayest know the thoughts of thy heart. | Ma quanto a me, questo segreto mi è stato rivelato non perché io abbia maggiore sapienza di tutti gli altri viventi, ma perché l'interpretazione sia fatta conoscere al re, e tu possa conoscere i pensieri del tuo cuore. |
| 31 | Thou, O king, sawest, and, behold, a great image. This image, which was mighty, and whose brightness was excellent, stood before thee; and the aspect thereof was terrible. | Tu stavi guardando, o re, ed ecco una grande immagine; questa enorme immagine, di straordinario splendore, si ergeva davanti a te con un aspetto terribile. |
| 32 | As for this image, its head was of fine gold, its breast and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass, | La testa di questa immagine era d'oro fino, il suo petto e le sue braccia erano d'argento, il suo ventre e le sue cosce di bronzo, |
| 33 | its legs of iron, its feet part of iron, and part of clay. | le sue gambe di ferro, i suoi piedi in parte di ferro e in parte d'argilla. |
| 34 | Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image upon its feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them in pieces. | Mentre stavi guardando, una pietra si staccò, ma non per mano d'uomo, e colpì l'immagine sui suoi piedi di ferro e d'argilla e li frantumò. |
| 35 | Then was the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, broken in pieces together, and became like the chaff of the summer threshing-floors; and the wind carried them away, so that no place was found for them: and the stone that smote the image became a great mountain, and filled the whole earth. | Allora il ferro, l'argilla, il bronzo, l'argento e l'oro furono frantumati insieme e diventarono come la pula sulle aie d'estate; il vento li portò via e di essi non si trovò più alcuna traccia. | 36 | This is the dream; and we will tell the interpretation thereof before the king. | Questo è il sogno; ora ne daremo l'interpretazione davanti al re. |
| 37 | Thou, O king, art king of kings, unto whom the God of heaven hath given the kingdom, the power, and the strength, and the glory; | Tu, o re, sei il re dei re, perché il Dio del cielo ti ha dato il regno, la potenza, la forza e la gloria. |
| 38 | and wheresoever the children of men dwell, the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens hath he given into thy hand, and hath made thee to rule over them all: thou art the head of gold. | Dovunque dimorano i figli degli uomini, le bestie della campagna e gli uccelli del cielo, egli li ha dati nelle tue mani e ti ha fatto dominare sopra tutti loro. Tu sei quella testa d'oro. |
| 39 | And after thee shall arise another kingdom inferior to thee; and another third kingdom of brass, which shall bear rule over all the earth. | Dopo di te sorgerà un altro regno, inferiore al tuo; poi un terzo regno di bronzo, che dominerà su tutta la terra. |
| 40 | And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron, forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things; and as iron that crusheth all these, shall it break in pieces and crush. | Il quarto regno sarà forte come il ferro, perché il ferro fa a pezzi e stritola ogni cosa; come il ferro che frantuma, quel regno farà a pezzi e frantumerà tutti questi regni. |
| 41 | And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters` clay, and part of iron, it shall be a divided kingdom; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. | Come tu hai visto che i piedi e le dita erano in parte d'argilla di vasaio e in parte di ferro, così quel regno sarà diviso, tuttavia in esso ci sarà la durezza del ferro, perché tu hai visto il ferro mescolato con argilla molle. |
| 42 | And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. | E come le dita dei piedi erano in parte di ferro e in parte d'argilla, così quel regno sarà in parte forte e in parte fragile. |
| 43 | And whereas thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men; but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron doth not mingle with clay. | Come hai visto il ferro mescolato con la molle argilla, essi si mescoleranno per seme umano, ma non si uniranno l'uno all'altro, esattamente come il ferro non si amalgama con l'argilla. |
| 44 | And in the days of those kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed, nor shall the sovereignty thereof be left to another people; but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever. | Al tempo di questi re il Dio del cielo farà sorgere un regno, che non sarà mai distrutto; questo regno non sarà lasciato a un altro popolo, ma frantumerà e annienterà tutti quei regni, e sussisterà in eterno, |
| 45 | Forasmuch as thou sawest that a stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the interpretation thereof sure. | esattamente come hai visto la pietra staccarsi dal monte, non per mano d'uomo, e frantumare il ferro, il bronzo, l'argilla, l'argento e l'oro. Il grande Dio ha fatto conoscere al re ciò che deve avvenire d'ora in poi. Il sogno è veritiero e la sua interpretazione è sicura. |
| 46 | Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odors unto him. | Allora il re Nebukadnetsar cadde sulla sua faccia e si prostrò davanti a Daniele; quindi ordinò che gli presentassero un'offerta e dell'incenso. |
| 47 | The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou hast been able to reveal this secret. | Il re parlò a Daniele e disse: In verità il vostro Dio è il Dio degli dèi, il Signore dei re e il rivelatore dei segreti, poiché tu hai potuto rivelare questo segreto. |
| 48 | Then the king made Daniel great, and gave him many great gifts, and made him to rule over the whole province of Babylon, and to be chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon. | Allora il re rese Daniele grande, gli diede molti e grandi doni, lo fece governatore di tutta la provincia di Babilonia e capo supremo di tutti i savi di Babilonia. |
| 49 | And Daniel requested of the king, and he appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, over the affairs of the province of Babylon: but Daniel was in the gate of the king. | Inoltre, dietro richiesta di Daniele, il re prepose Shadrak, Meshak e Abednego all'amministrazione degli affari della provincia di Babilonia. Daniele invece rimase alla corte del re. |
