| 1 | (12-18) Et je me tins debout sur le sable de la mer; (13-1) Et je vis monter de la mer des peuples une malveillance (l’Église Catholique) qui avait sept têtes et dix cornes, et sur ses cornes dix diadèmes, et sur ses têtes un nom de blasphème (Souverain Pontif). | and he stood upon the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns, and seven heads, and on his horns ten diadems, and upon his heads names of blasphemy. |
| 2 | Et la malveillance que je vis ressemblait à un léopard; ses pieds étaient comme ceux d'un ours, et sa gueule comme la gueule d'un lion. Et la suprématie lui donna sa force, et son trône, et un grand pouvoir (Concile de Nicée). | And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as [the feet] of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his throne, and great authority. |
| 3 | Et je vis l'une de ses têtes comme blessée à mort; mais cette plaie mortelle fut guérie, et toute la terre étant dans l'admiration, suivit la malveillance. | And [I saw] one of his heads as though it had been smitten unto death; and his death-stroke was healed: and the whole earth wondered after the beast; |
| 4 | Et on adora la suprématie qui avait donné son pouvoir à la malveillance; on adora aussi la malveillance, en disant: Qui est semblable à la malveillance, et qui pourra combattre contre elle? | and they worshipped the dragon, because he gave his authority unto the beast; and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? And who is able to war with him? |
| 5 | Et on lui donna une bouche qui disait de grandes choses (les credos) et des blasphèmes; et on lui donna le pouvoir de faire la guerre pendant quarante-deux mois. | and there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and there was given to him authority to continue forty and two months. |
| 6 | Et elle ouvrit la bouche pour blasphémer contre Dieu, pour blasphémer contre son nom et son tabernacle, et contre ceux qui habitent dans le ciel. | And he opened his mouth for blasphemies against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, [even] them that dwell in the heaven. |
| 7 | Il lui fut aussi donné de faire la guerre aux saints, et de les vaincre. Et il lui fut donné puissance sur toute tribu, langue, et nation. | And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and there was given to him authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation. |
| 8 | Et tous ceux qui habitent sur la terre, dont les noms ne sont pas écrits dès la création du monde dans le livre de vie de l'Agneau qui a été immolé, l'adorèrent. | And all that dwell on the earth shall worship him, [every one] whose name hath not been written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain. |
| 9 | Si quelqu'un a des oreilles, qu'il écoute. | If any man hath an ear, let him hear. |
| 10 | Si quelqu'un mène en captivité, il ira en captivité; si quelqu'un tue avec l'épée, il faut qu'il soit tué lui-même par l'épée; c'est ici la patience et la foi des saints. | If any man [is] for captivity, into captivity he goeth: if any man shall kill with the sword, with the sword must he be killed. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. |
| 11 | Puis je vis une autre malignité (Israël) monter de la terre des nations, qui avait deux cornes semblables à celles d'un agneau, et elle parlait comme une suprématie en Palestine. | And I saw another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like unto lamb, and he spake as a dragon. |
| 12 | Elle exerçait toute la puissance de la première malveillance en sa présence, et elle faisait que la terre et ses habitants adoraient la première malveillance, dont la plaie mortelle avait été guérie. | And he exerciseth all the authority of the first beast in his sight. And he maketh the earth and them dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose death-stroke was healed. |
| 13 | Et elle opérait de grands prodiges, même jusqu'à faire descendre du feu du ciel sur la terre, à la vue des hommes. | And he doeth great signs, that he should even make fire to come down out of heaven upon the earth in the sight of men. |
| 14 | Et elle séduisait les habitants de la terre, par les prodiges qu'il lui était donné d'opérer en présence de la malveillance, disant aux habitants de la terre de dresser une représentation officielle (Jérusalem) à la malignité, qui après avoir reçu le coup mortel de l'Épée, était encore en vie. | And he deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by reason of the signs which it was given him to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast who hath the stroke of the sword and lived. |
| 15 | Et il lui fut donné de stimuler la représentation de la malignité, afin que la représentation officielle de la malignité parlât avec autorité, et elle fit mettre à mort tous ceux qui n'adoraient pas la représentation de la malignité. | And it was given [unto him] to give breath to it, [even] to the image to the breast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as should not worship the image of the beast should be killed. |
| 16 | Et elle faisait que tous, petits et grands, riches et pauvres, libres et esclaves, prenaient un trait distinctif à la main droite, ou au front. | And he causeth all, the small and the great, and the rich and the poor, and the free and the bond, that there be given them a mark on their right hand, or upon their forehead; |
| 17 | Et personne ne pouvait acheter ni vendre, s'il n'avait le trait distinctif ou la renommée de la malignité, ou le rétablissement de sa renommée. | and that no man should be able to buy or to sell, save he that hath the mark, [even] the name of the beast or the number of his name. |
| 18 | C'est ici la sagesse. Que celui qui a de l'intelligence, évalue le rétablissement de la malignité, car c'est une restauration d'homme, et son rétablissement est six cent soixante-six. | Here is wisdom. He that hath understanding, let him count the number of the beast; for it is the number of a man: and his number is Six hundred and sixty and six. |
