| 1 | And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy. | Puis je vis monter de la mer une bête qui avait sept têtes et dix cornes, et sur ses cornes dix diadèmes, et sur ses têtes des noms de blasphème. |
| 2 | And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority. | La bête que je vis ressemblait à un léopard; ses pieds étaient comme ceux d'un ours, et sa gueule comme une gueule de lion. Le dragon lui donna sa puissance, son trône et une grande autorité. |
| 3 | And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast. | Une de ses têtes paraissait blessée à mort ; mais sa plaie mortelle fût guérie, et toute la terre, saisie d'admiration, suivit la bête, |
| 4 | And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him? | et l'on adora le dragon, parce qu'il avait donné l'autorité à la bête, et l'on adora la bête, en disant : "Qui est semblable à la bête, et qui peut combattre contre elle ?" |
| 5 | And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months. | Et il lui fut donné une bouche proférant des paroles arrogantes et blasphématoires, et il lui fût donné pouvoir d'agir pendant quarante-deux mois. |
| 6 | And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven. | Et elle ouvrit sa bouche pour proférer des blasphèmes contre Dieu, pour blasphémer son nom, son tabernacle et ceux qui habitent dans le ciel. |
| 7 | And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations. | Et il lui fut donné de faire la guerre aux saints et de les vaincre; et il lui fût donné autorité sur toute tribu, tout peuple, toute langue et toute nation. |

| 10 | He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. | si quelqu'un mène en captivité, il sera mené en captivité; si quelqu'un tue par l'épée, il faut qu'il soit tué par l'épée. C'est ici la patience et la foi des saints. |
| 11 | And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. | Puis je vis monter de la terre une autre bête, qui avait deux cornes semblables à celles d'un agneau, et qui portait comme un dragon. |
| 12 | And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. | Elle exerçait toute la puissance de la première bête en sa présence, et elle amenait la terre et ses habitants à adorer la première bête, dont la plaie mortelle avait été guérie. |
| 13 | And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, | Elle opérait aussi de grands prodiges, jusqu'à faire descendre le feu du ciel sur la terre, à la vue des hommes, |
| 14 | And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. | et elle séduisait les habitants de la terre par les prodiges qu'il lui était donné d'opérer en présence de la bête, persuadant les habitants de la terre de dresser une image à la bête qui porte la blessure de l'épée et qui a repris vie. |
| 15 | And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. | Et il lui fut donné d'animer l'image de la bête, de façon à la faire parler et à faire tuer tous ceux qui n'adoreraient pas l'image de la bête. |
| 16 | And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: | Elle fit qu'à tous, petits et grands, riches et pauvres, libres et esclaves, on mit une marque sur la main droite ou sur le front, |
| 17 | And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. | et que nul ne pût acheter ou vendre, sil n'avait pas la marque du nom de la bête ou le nombre de son nom. |
| 18 | Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six. | C'est ici la sagesse ! Que celui qui a de l'intelligence compte le nombre de la bête; car c'est un nombre d'homme et ce nombre est six cent soixante-six. |
