| 1 | In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying, | Nel secondo anno del re Dario, il sesto mese, il primo giorno del mese, la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta per mezzo del profeta Aggeo, a Zorobabel, figlio di Scealtiel, governatore di Giuda, e a Giosué, figlio di Jehotsadak sommo sacerdote, dicendo: |
| 2 | Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, It is not the time [for us] to come, the time for Jehovah`s house to be built. | Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Questo popolo dice: "Il tempo non è ancora giunto, il tempo in cui la casa dell'Eterno dev'essere ricostruita". |
| 3 | Then came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet, saying, | Allora la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta loro per mezzo del profeta Aggeo, dicendo: |
| 4 | Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your ceiled houses, while this house lieth waste? | E' forse questo il tempo per voi di abitare nelle vostre case ricoperte, mentre questo tempio giace in rovina?. |
| 5 | Now therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways. | Perciò ora dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Considerate bene il vostro comportamento! |
| 6 | Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages [to put it] into a bag with holes. | Avete seminato molto, ma avete raccolto poco; mangiate, ma non fino a saziarvi; bevete, ma non fino a soddisfare la sete, vi vestite, ma nessuno sta al caldo; chi guadagna un salario, lo guadagna per riporlo in una borsa forata. |
| 7 | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways. | Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Considerate bene il vostro comportamento! |
| 8 | Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah. | Salite sui monti, portate legname e costruite il tempio, perché possa compiacermi in esso ed essere così glorificato, dice l'Eterno. |
| 9 | Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house. | Vi aspettavate molto, ma in realtà c'è stato poco; quando poi l'avete portato a casa, io l'ho soffiato via. Perché? dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, a motivo del mio tempio che giace in rovina, mentre ognuno di voi corre alla propria casa. |
| 10 | Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit. | Perciò sopra di voi il cielo ha trattenuto la rugiada e la terra ha ritenuto il suo prodotto. |
| 11 | And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the grain, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands. | E io ho chiamato la siccità sul paese, sui monti, sul grano, sul mosto, sull'olio e su tutto ciò che il suolo produce, sugli uomini, sul bestiame e su tutto il lavoro delle vostre mani. |
| 12 | Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him; and the people did fear before Jehovah. | Zorobabel, figlio di Scealtiel, e Giosué, figlio di Jehotsadak, il sommo sacerdote, e tutto il resto del popolo diedero ascolto alla voce dell'Eterno, il loro DIO, e alle parole del profeta Aggeo perché l'Eterno, il loro DIO, lo aveva mandato, e il popolo ebbe timore della presenza dell'Eterno. |
| 13 | Then spake Haggai Jehovah`s messenger in Jehovah`s message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah. | Allora Aggeo, il messaggero dell'Eterno, proclamò al popolo il messaggio dell'Eterno, dicendo: Io sono con voi, dice l'Eterno. |
| 14 | And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work on the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God, | Così l'Eterno destò lo spirito di Zorobabel figlio di Scealtiel, governatore di Giuda e lo spirito di Giosuè, figlio di Jehotsadak, il sommo sacerdote, e lo spirito di tutto il resto del popolo; allora essi vennero e iniziarono il lavoro sulla casa dell'Eterno degli eserciti, il loro DIo |
