| 4 | Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand. | Cependant beaucoup de ceux qui avaient entendu le discours crurent, et le nombre des hommes devint de cinq mille environ. |
| 5 | And it came to pass on the morrow, that their rulers, and elders, and scribes, | Puis, le lendemain, leurs chefs, les Anciens et les scribes de Jérusalem s'assemblèrent, |
| 6 | And Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the kindred of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. | ainsi que Anne le grand prêtre, Caïphe, Jean, Alexandre, et tous ceux qui étaient de famille pontificale. |
| 7 | And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, By what power, or by what name, have ye done this? | Et les ayant fait comparaître devant eux, ils demandèrent : "Par quel pouvoir et au nom de qui avez-vous fait cela ?" |
| 8 | Then Peter, filled with the Holy Ghost, said unto them, Ye rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, | Alors Pierre, rempli du Saint-Esprit, leur dit : |
| 9 | If we this day be examined of the good deed done to the impotent man, by what means he is made whole; | "Chefs du peuple et Anciens, puisqu'on nous interroge aujourd'hui sur un bienfait (accordé) à un infirme, (pour savoir) comment cet homme a été guéri, |
| 10 | Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. | sachez-le bien, vous tous, et tout le peuple, d'Israël : C'est par le nom de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, que vous avez crucifié, que Dieu a ressuscité des morts, c'est par lui que cet homme est présent devant vous en pleine santé. |
| 11 | This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. | C'est lui, la pierre rejetée par vous les constructeurs, qui est devenue tête d'angle. |
| 12 | Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. | Et le salut n'est en aucun autre, car il n'est sous le ciel aucun autre nom donné parmi les hommes, par lequel nous devions être sauvés." |
| 13 | Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marvelled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. | Lorsqu'ils virent l'assurance de Pierre et de Jean, sachant qu'ils étaient des hommes sans instruction et du commun, ils étaient étonnés, et ils les reconnaissaient pour avoir été avec Jésus. |
| 14 | And beholding the man which was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it. | Mais, comme ils voyaient debout, avec eux, l'homme qui avait été guéri, ils n'avaient rien à répliquer. |
| 15 | But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, | Les ayant fait sortir du sanhédrin, ils se consultèrent entre eux, disant : |
| 16 | Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. | "Que ferons-nous à ces hommes ? Qu'un miracle manifeste soit arrivé par eux, la chose est claire pour tous les habitants de Jérusalem, et nous ne pouvons le nier. |
| 17 | But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. | Mais pour que cela ne se répande pas davantage parmi le peuple, défendons-leur avec menaces de parler désormais en ce nom-là à qui que ce soit." |
| 18 | And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus. | Et, les ayant rappelés, ils leur interdirent absolument de parler et d'enseigner au nom de Jésus. |
| 19 | But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. | Pierre et Jean, répliquant, leur dirent : "Jugez s'il est juste devant Dieu de vous écouter plutôt que Dieu; |
| 20 | For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard. | car, pour nous, nous ne pouvons pas ne pas dire ce que nous avons vu et entendu." |
| 21 | So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done. | Après leur avoir fait des menaces, ils les relâchèrent, ne trouvant aucun moyen de les punir, à cause du peuple, parce que tous glorifiaient Dieu de ce qui était arrivé. |
| 22 | For the man was above forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shewed. | En effet, l'homme à qui était arrivée cette guérison merveilleuse avait plus de quarante ans. |
| 23 | And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. | Une fois relâchés, ils allèrent vers les leurs et racontèrent tout ce que les grands prêtres et les Anciens leur avaient dit. |
| 24 | And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: | Ce qu'ayant entendu, eux élevèrent d'un même coeur la voix vers Dieu, en disant : "Maître, c'est vous qui avez fait le ciel, la terre, la mer et tout ce qu'ils renferment; |
| 25 | Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? | qui avez dit par l'Esprit-Saint, [par la] bouche de [notre père] David, votre serviteur : Pourquoi les nations ont-elles frémi, et les peuples ont-ils formé de vains (projets) ? |
| 26 | The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ. | Les rois de la terre se sont présentés, et les chefs se sont ligués ensemble contre le Seigneur et contre son Oint. |
| 27 | For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, | Car, en vérité, ils se sont ligués dans cette ville contre votre saint serviteur Jésus, que vous avez oint, Hérode et Ponce-Pilate avec les nations et les peuples d'Israël, |
| 28 | For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done. | afin de faire ce que votre main et votre volonté avaient fixé d'avance pour arriver. |
| 29 | And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, | Et maintenant, Seigneur, considérez leurs menaces, et donnez à vos serviteurs d'annoncer votre parole en toute assurance, |
| 30 | By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. | en étendant votre main pour qu'il se fasse des guérisons, des miracles et des prodiges, par le nom de votre saint serviteur Jésus." |
| 31 | And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness. | Quand ils eurent prié, le lieu où ils étaient réunis trembla, et ils furent tous remplis du Saint-Esprit; et ils annonçaient la parole de Dieu avec assurance. |
| 32 | And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common. | Or la multitude des croyants n'avait qu'un coeur et qu'une âme, et nul ne disait sien rien de ce qu'il possédait, mais tout était commun entre eux. |
| 33 | And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. | Avec beaucoup de force les apôtres rendaient témoignage de la résurrection du Sauveur Jésus, et une grande grâce était sur eux tous. |
| 34 | Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, | En effet, il n'y avait parmi eux aucun indigent, puisque tous ceux qui possédaient des terres ou des maisons les vendaient et apportaient le produit de la vente, |
| 35 | And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need. | qu'ils déposaient aux pieds des apôtres; et on distribuait à chacun ce dont il avait besoin. |
| 36 | And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, | Or Joseph, surnommé par les apôtres Barnabé, - ce qui se traduit "fils de consolation, "- lévite originaire de Chypre, qui possédait un champ, |
| 37 | Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet. | le vendit, en apporta le prix et le déposa aux pieds des apôtres. |
