| 2 | I think myself happy, king Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before thee this day touching all the things whereof I am accused by the Jews: | O re Agrippa, io mi ritengo felice di potermi oggi discolpare davanti a te di tutte le cose delle quali sono accusato dai Giudei, |
| 3 | especially because thou art expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently. | soprattutto perché tu conosci tutte le usanze e le questioni che ci sono tra i Giudei; ti prego perciò di ascoltarmi con pazienza. |
| 4 | My manner of life then from my youth up, which was from the beginning among mine own nation and at Jerusalem, know all the Jews; | Ora quale sia stato il mio modo di vivere fin dalla giovinezza, che ho trascorsa interamente a Gerusalemme in mezzo al mio popolo, tutti i Giudei lo sanno. |
| 5 | having knowledge of me from the first, if they be willing to testify, that after the straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee. | Essi mi hanno conosciuto fin d'allora e possono testimoniare, se lo vogliono che son vissuto come fariseo, secondo la più rigida setta della nostra religione. |
| 6 | And now I stand [here] to be judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers; | Ed ora mi trovo in giudizio per la speranza della promessa fatta da Dio ai nostri padri, |
| 7 | unto which [promise] our twelve tribes, earnestly serving [God] night and day, hope to attain. And concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, O king! | quella promessa che le nostre dodici tribù, che servono Dio con fervore giorno e notte, sperano di ottenere; per questa speranza, o re Agrippa, io sono accusato dai Giudei. |
| 8 | Why is it judged incredible with you, if God doth raise the dead? | Perché mai ritenete incredibile che Dio risusciti i morti? |
| 9 | I verily thought with myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. | Io stesso ritenni essere mio dovere far molte cose contro il nome di Gesù il Nazareno. |
| 10 | And this I also did in Jerusalem: and I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them. | E questo è ciò che feci in Gerusalemme, avendone ricevuto l'autorità dai capi dei sacerdoti, rinchiusi nelle prigioni molti santi e, quando erano messi a morte, io davo il mio assenso. |
| 11 | And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities. | E spesse volte, andando da una sinagoga all'altra, li costrinsi a bestemmiare e, grandemente infuriato contro di loro, li perseguitai fin nelle città straniere. |
| 12 | Whereupon as I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, | Mentre ero impegnato in questo e stavo andando a Damasco con l'autorizzazione e i pieni poteri dei capi dei sacerdoti, |
| 13 | at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them that journeyed with me. | a mezzogiorno, o re, sulla strada io vidi una luce dal cielo più splendente del sole, sfolgorare intorno a me e a quelli che viaggiavano con me. |
| 14 | And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying unto me in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the goad. | Essendo noi tutti caduti a terra, udii una voce che mi parlava e mi disse in lingua ebraica: "Saulo, Saulo, perché mi perseguiti? Ti è duro recalcitrare contro i pungoli". |
| 15 | And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. | Io dissi: "Chi sei tu, Signore?". Egli disse: "Io sono Gesù, che tu perseguiti. |
| 16 | But arise, and stand upon thy feet: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appoint thee a minister and a witness both of the things wherein thou hast seen me, and of the things wherein I will appear unto thee; | Ma alzati e stà in piedi, perché per questo ti sono apparso: per costituirti ministro e testimone delle cose che tu hai visto e di quelle per le quali io ti apparirò, |
| 17 | delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom I send thee, | liberandoti dal popolo e dai gentili, ai quali ora ti mando, |
| 18 | to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me. | per aprir loro gli occhi e convertirli dalle tenebre alla luce e dalla potestà di Satana a Dio, affinché ricevano mediante la fede in me il perdono dei peccati e un'eredità tra i santificati |
| 19 | Wherefore, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: | Perciò, o re Agrippa, io non sono stato disubbidiente alla celeste visione. |
| 20 | but declared both to them of Damascus first and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judaea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance. | Ma prima a quelli in Damasco, poi a Gerusalemme. in tutta la regione della Giudea e ai gentili, ho annunziato di ravvedersi e di convertirsi a Dio, facendo opere degne di ravvedimento. |
| 21 | For this cause the Jews seized me in the temple, and assayed to kill me. | Per queste cose i Giudei, dopo avermi preso nel tempio tentarono di uccidermi. |
| 22 | Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand unto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses did say should come; | Ma, per l'aiuto ottenuto da Dio fino a questo giorno ho continuato a testimoniare a piccoli e grandi, non dicendo nient'altro se non ciò che i profeti e Mosè dissero che doveva avvenire, |
| 23 | how that the Christ must suffer, [and] how that he first by the resurrection of the dead should proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles. | cioè: che il Cristo avrebbe sofferto e che, essendo il primo a risuscitare dai morti, avrebbe annunziato la luce al popolo e ai gentili. |
| 24 | And as he thus made his defense, Festus saith with a loud voice, Paul, thou art mad; thy much learning is turning thee mad. | Ora, mentre Paolo diceva queste cose a sua difesa, Festo disse ad alta voce: Paolo, tu farnetichi; le molte lettere ti fanno uscire di senno. |
| 25 | But Paul saith, I am not mad, most excellent Festus; but speak forth words of truth and soberness. | Ma egli disse: Io non farnetico, eccellentissimo Festo, ma proferisco parole di verità e di buon senno. |
| 26 | For the king knoweth of these things, unto whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him; for this hath not been done in a corner. | Infatti il re, al quale parlo con franchezza, è ben informato su queste cose, poiché sono convinto che nessuna di queste cose gli sia sconosciuta, perché tutto questo non è stato fatto in segreto. |
| 27 | King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest. | O re Agrippa, credi ai profeti? Io so che ci credi. |
| 28 | And Agrippa [said] unto Paul, With but little persuasion thou wouldest fain make me a Christian. | Allora Agrippa disse a Paolo: Ancora un po' e mi persuadi a diventare cristiano. |
| 29 | And Paul [said], I would to God, that whether with little or with much, not thou only, but also all that hear me this day, might become such as I am, except these bonds. | Paolo disse: Volesse Dio che in poco o molto tempo non solo tu, ma anche tutti quelli che oggi mi ascoltano, diventaste tali, quale sono io, all'infuori di queste catene. |
| 30 | And the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them: | Dette queste cose, il re si alzò e con lui il governatore, Berenice e quelli che sedevano con loro. |
| 31 | and when they had withdrawn, they spake one to another, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds. | Ritiratisi in disparte, parlavano tra di loro e dicevano: Quest'uomo non ha fatto nulla che meriti la morte o la prigione. |
| 32 | And Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar. | Allora Agrippa disse a Festo: Quest'uomo poteva essere liberato, se non si fosse appellato a Cesare |
