Il brandit sa lance sur huit cents hommes, qu'il fit périr en une seule fois. | These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-basshebeth a Tahchemonite, chief of the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite, against eight hundred slain at one time. |

Il était parmi les trois vaillants qui étaient avec David, lorsqu'ils défièrent les Philistins qui étaient rassemblés là pour combattre, tandis que les hommes d'Israël remontaient. | And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodai the son of an Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away. |
| 10 | Il se leva et frappa les Philistins jusqu'à ce que sa main fut lasse, et que sa main adhérât à l'épée. Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance en ce jour-là, et le peuple revint à la suite d'Eléazar, mais seulement pour ramasser les dépouilles. | He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword; and Jehovah wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to take spoil. |

Les Philistins s'étaient rassemblés en une seule troupe; il y avait là une pièce de terre pleine de lentilles, et le peuple fuyait devant les Philistins. | And after him was Shammah the son of Agee a Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a plot of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Philistines. |
| 12 | Semma se plaça au milieu du champ, le défendit et battit les Philistins. Et Yahweh opéra une grande délivrance. | But he stood in the midst of the plot, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah wrought a great victory. |
| 13 | Trois d'entre les trente capitaines descendirent et vinrent, au temps de la moisson, auprès de David, à la caverne d'Odollam, tandis qu'une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Réphaïm. | And three of the thirty chief men went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines was encamped in the valley of Rephaim. |
| 14 | David était alors dans la forteresse, et il y avait un poste de Philistins à Bethléem. | And David was then in the stronghold; and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Beth-lehem. |
| 15 | David eut un désir, et il dit : « Qui me fera boire de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem ? » | And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me water to drink of the well of Beth-lehem, which is by the gate! |
| 16 | Aussitôt les trois braves, passant au travers du camp des Philistins, puisèrent de l'eau de la citerne qui est à la porte de Bethléem. Ils la prirent et l'apportèrent à David; mais il ne voulut pas la boire, et il en fit une libation à Yahweh, | And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto Jehovah. |
| 17 | en disant : « Loin de moi, ô Yahweh, de faire cela! N'est-ce pas le sang de ces hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie ? » Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Voilà ce que firent ces trois braves. | And he said, Be it far from me, O Jehovah, that I should do this: [shall I drink] the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did the three mighty men. |
| 18 | Abisaï, frère de Joab, fils de Sarvia, était aussi chef des officiers. Il brandit sa lance contre trois cents hommes et les tua, et il eut du renom parmi les trois. | And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief of the three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred and slew them, and had a name among the three. |
| 19 | Il était le plus considéré d'entre les trois, et il fut leur chef; mais il n'égala pas les trois premiers. | Was he not most honorable of the three? therefore he was made their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the [first] three. |
| 20 | Banaïas, fils de Joïadas, fils d'un homme vaillant et riche en exploits, de Cabséel. Il frappa les deux ariels de Moab. Il descendit et frappa le lion au milieu de la citerne un jour de neige. | And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done mighty deeds, he slew the two [sons of] Ariel of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow. |
| 21 | Il frappa un Egyptien d'un aspect redoutable; et dans la main de l'Egyptien il y avait une lance. Il descendit vers lui avec un bâton, et il arracha la lance de la main de l'Egyptien et le frappa de sa propre lance. | And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian`s hand, and slew him with his own spear. |

| 23 | Il était plus considéré que les trente, mais il n'égala pas les trois. David le fit membre de son conseil. | He was more honorable than the thirty, but he attained not to the [first] three. And David set him over his guard. |
