| 3 | Et Amnon avait un ami, nommé Jonadab, fils de Shimha, frère de David; et Jonadab était un homme très-habile. | Or Amnon avait un intime ami nommé Jonadab, fils de Simha frère de David; et Jonadab était un homme fort rusé. | But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David`s brother; and Jonadab was a very subtle man. |
| 4 | Et il lui dit: Pourquoi maigris-tu ainsi d'un matin à l'autre, toi, fils du roi? Ne me le déclareras-tu pas? Et Amnon lui dit: J'aime Tamar, soeur d'Absalom mon frère. | Et il dit à Amnon: Fils du Roi, pourquoi deviens-tu ainsi exténué de jour en jour? ne me le déclareras-tu pas? Amnon lui dit: J'aime Tamar soeur de mon frère Absalom. | And he said unto him, Why, O son of the king, art thou thus lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom`s sister. |
| 5 | Et Jonadab lui dit: Couche-toi sur ton lit et fais le malade; et ton père viendra te voir, et tu lui diras: Je te prie, que Tamar, ma soeur, vienne et qu'elle me donne à manger du pain, et qu'elle apprête devant mes yeux un mets, afin que je la voie, et que je le mange de sa main. | Alors Jonadab lui dit: Couche-toi dans ton lit, et fais le malade; et quand ton père te viendra voir, tu lui diras: Je te prie que ma soeur Tamar vienne, afin qu'elle me fasse manger, en apprêtant devant moi quelque chose d'appétit, et que voyant ce qu'elle aura apprêté, je le mange de sa main. | And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and feign thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, Let my sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and give me bread to eat, and dress the food in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it from her hand. |
| 6 | Et Amnon se coucha et fit le malade; et le roi vint le voir, et Amnon dit au roi: Je te prie, que Tamar, ma soeur, vienne et prépare sous mes yeux deux beignets, et que je les mange de sa main. | Amnon donc se coucha, et fit le malade; et quand le Roi le vint voir, il lui dit: Je te prie que ma soeur Tamar vienne et fasse deux beignets devant moi, et que je les mange de sa main. | So Amnon lay down, and feigned himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, Let her sister Tamar come, I pray thee, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat from her hand. |

| 8 | Et Tamar alla dans la maison d'Ammon, son frère, et il était couché; et elle prit de la pâte et la pétrit, et prépara sous ses yeux des beignets, et elle cuisit les beignets. | Et Tamar s'en alla en la maison de son frère Amnon, qui était couché; et elle prit de la pâte, et la pétrit, et en fit devant lui des beignets, et les cuisit. | So Tamar went to her brother Amnon`s house; and he was laid down. And she took dough, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes. |
| 9 | Et elle prit la poêle et les versa devant lui; et il refusa de manger. Et Amnon dit: Faites sortir tout homme d'auprès de moi. Et tout homme sortit d'auprès de lui. | Puis elle prit la poêle, et les versa devant lui, mais Amnon refusa d'en manger; et dit: Faites retirer tous ceux qui sont auprès de moi: et chacun se retira. | And she took the pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him. |

Et Tamar prit les beignets qu'elle avait faits, et les apporta à Amnon son frère dans le cabinet. | And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the food into the chamber, that I may eat from thy hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother. |

| 12 | Et elle lui dit: Non, mon frère, ne m'humilie pas; car on ne fait point ainsi en Israël: ne fais pas cette infamie. | Et elle lui répondit: Non, mon frère, ne me viole point; car cela ne se fait point en Israël; ne fais point cette infamie. | And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly. |
| 13 | Et moi, où porterais-je ma honte? Et toi, tu serais comme l'un des infâmes en Israël. Et maintenant, parle au roi, je te prie, car il ne me refusera point à toi. | Et moi, que deviendrais-je avec mon opprobre? et toi, tu passerais pour un insensé en Israël. Maintenant donc parles-en, je te prie, au Roi, et il n'empêchera point que tu ne m'aies pour femme. | And I, whither shall I carry my shame? and as for thee, thou wilt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee. |
| 14 | Et il ne voulut pas écouter sa voix, et il fut plus fort qu'elle et l'humilia et coucha avec elle. | Mais il ne voulut point l'écouter; et il fut plus fort qu'elle, et la viola, et coucha avec elle. | Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice; but being stronger than she, he forced her, and lay with her. |
| 15 | Et Amnon la haït d'une très-grande haine, car la haine dont il la haït était plus grande que l'amour dont il l'avait aimée. Et Amnon lui dit: Lève-toi, va-t'en. | Après cela, Amnon la haït d'une grande haine, en sorte que la haine qu'il lui portait, était plus grande que l'amour qu'il avait eu pour elle; ainsi Amnon lui dit: Lève-toi, va-t'en. | Then Amnon hated her with exceeding great hatred; for the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone. |
| 16 | Et elle lui dit: Il n'y a pas de raison pour cela; ce tort de me chasser est plus grand que l'autre que tu m'as fait. Mais il ne voulut pas l'écouter. | Et elle lui répondit: Tu n'as aucun sujet de me faire ce mal, que de me chasser; ce mal est plus grand que l'autre que tu m'as fait; mais il ne voulut point l'écouter. | And she said unto him, Not so, because this great wrong in putting me forth is [worse] than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her. |
| 17 | Et il appela son jeune homme qui le servait, et dit: Chassez donc cette femme dehors, de devant moi; et ferme la porte au verrou après elle. | Il appela donc le garçon qui le servait, et lui dit: Qu'on chasse maintenant celle-ci d'auprès de moi, qu'on la mette dehors, et qu'on ferme la porte après elle. | Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her. |
| 18 | Et elle avait sur elle une tunique bigarrée; car les filles du roi qui étaient vierges étaient ainsi habillées de robes. Et celui qui le servait la mit dehors, et ferma la porte après elle. | Or elle était habillée d'une robe bigarrée; car les filles du Roi, qui étaient encore vierges, étaient ainsi habillées. Celui donc qui le servait la mit dehors, et ferma la porte après elle. | And she had a garment of divers colors upon her; for with such robes were the king`s daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her. |
| 19 | Et Tamar prit de la poussière et la mit sur sa tête, et déchira la tunique bigarrée qu'elle avait sur elle, et elle mit sa main sur sa tête, et s'en alla, marchant et criant. | Alors Tamar prit de la cendre sur sa tête, et déchira la robe bigarrée qu'elle avait sur elle, et mit la main sur sa tête, et s'en allait en criant. | And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colors that was on her; and she laid her hand on her head, and went her way, crying aloud as she went. |
| 20 | Et Absalom, son frère, lui dit: Est-ce que ton frère Amnon a été avec toi? Et maintenant, ma soeur, garde le silence: il est ton frère; ne prends pas cette chose à coeur. Et Tamar demeura désolée dans la maison d'Absalom, son frère. | Et son frère Absalom lui dit: Ton frère Amnon n'a-t-il pas été avec toi? Mais maintenant, ma soeur, tais-toi, il est ton frère; ne prends point ceci à coeur. Ainsi Tamar demeura toute désolée dans la maison d'Absalom son frère. | And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but now hold thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; take not this thing to heart. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom`s house. |
| 21 | Et le roi David entendit parler de toutes ces choses, et il en fut très-irrité. | Quand le Roi David eut appris toutes ces choses, il fut fort irrité. | But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth. |
| 22 | Et Absalom ne parla à Ammon, ni en mal, ni en bien, car Absalom haïssait Ammon, parce qu'il avait humilié Tamar, sa soeur. | Or Absalom ne parlait ni en bien ni en mal à Amnon, parce qu'Absalom haïssait Amnon, à cause qu'il avait violé Tamar sa soeur. | And Absalom spake unto Amnon neither good nor bad; for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. |
| 23 | Et il arriva, après deux années entières, qu'Absalom avait les tondeurs à Baal-Hatsor, qui est près d'Éphraïm; et Absalom invita tous les fils du roi. | Et il arriva au bout de deux ans entiers, qu'Absalom ayant les tondeurs à Bahal-hatsor, qui était près d'Ephraïm, il invita tous les fils du Roi. | And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheep-shearers in Baal-hazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king`s sons. |
| 24 | Et Absalom vint vers le roi, et dit: Tu vois que ton serviteur a les tondeurs: je te prie, que le roi et ses serviteurs aillent avec ton serviteur. | Et Absalom vint vers le Roi, et lui dit: Voici, ton serviteur a maintenant les tondeurs; je te prie donc que le Roi et ses serviteurs viennent avec ton serviteur. | And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheep-shearers; let the king, I pray thee, and his servants go with thy servant. |
| 25 | Et le roi dit à Absalom: Non, mon fils, nous n'irons pas tous, et nous ne te serons pas à charge. Et il le pressa, mais il ne voulut pas aller; et il le bénit. | Mais le Roi dit à Absalom: Non, mon fils, je te prie que nous n'y allions point tous, afin que nous ne te soyons point à charge; et quoiqu'il le pressât fort, cependant il n'y voulut point aller; mais il le bénit. | And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all go, lest we be burdensome unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him. |
| 26 | Et Absalom dit: Si tu ne viens pas, que mon frère Ammon, je te prie, vienne avec nous. Et le roi lui dit: Pourquoi irait-il avec toi? | Et Absalom dit: Si tu ne viens point, je te prie que mon frère Amnon vienne avec nous. Et le Roi lui répondit: Pourquoi irait-il avec toi? | Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee? |
| 27 | Et Absalom le pressa, et il envoya avec lui Amnon et tous les fils du roi. | Et Absalom le pressa tant, qu'il laissa aller Amnon, et tous les fils du Roi avec lui. | But Absalom pressed him, and he let Amnon and all the king`s sons go with him. |
| 28 | Et Absalom commanda à ses serviteurs, disant: Faites attention, je vous prie, quand le coeur d'Ammon sera gai par le vin, et que je vous dirai: Frappez Ammon, alors tuez-le, ne craignez point; n'est-ce pas moi qui vous l'ai commandé? Fortifiez-vous, et soyez vaillants! | Or Absalom avait commandé à ses serviteurs, en disant: Prenez bien garde, je vous prie, quand le coeur d'Amnon sera gai de vin, et que je vous dirai: Frappez Amnon, tuez-le; ne craignez point; n'est-ce pas moi qui vous l'aurai commandé? Fortifiez-vous, et portez-vous en vaillants hommes. | And Absalom commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now, when Amnon`s heart is merry with wine; and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon, then kill him; fear not; have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant. |
| 29 | Et les serviteurs d'Absalom firent à Amnon comme Absalom l'avait commandé; et tous les fils du roi se levèrent, et montèrent chacun sur son mulet et s'enfuirent. | Et les serviteurs d'Absalom firent à Amnon comme Absalom avait commandé, puis tous les fils du Roi se levèrent, et montèrent chacun sur sa mule, et s'enfuirent. | And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king`s sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled. |
| 30 | Et il arriva, comme ils étaient en chemin, que le bruit en vint à David; on disait: Absalom a frappé tous les fils du roi, et il n'en reste pas un seul. | Et il arriva qu'étant encore en chemin, le bruit vint à David qu'Absalom avait tué tous les fils du Roi, et qu'il n'en était pas resté un seul d'entr'eux. | And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that the tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king`s sons, and there is not one of them left. |
| 31 | Et le roi se leva, et déchira ses vêtements, et se coucha par terre; et tous ses serviteurs étaient là, les vêtements déchirés. | Alors le Roi se leva, et déchira ses vêtements, et se coucha par terre; tous ses serviteurs aussi étaient là avec leurs vêtements déchirés. | Then the king arose, and rent his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent. |
| 32 | Et Jonadab, fils de Shimha, frère de David, prit le parole et dit: Que mon seigneur ne pense pas qu'on ait tué tous les jeunes hommes, fils du roi, car Amnon seul est mort; car cela a eu lieu par l'ordre d'Absalom qu'il avait arrêté dès le jour qu' Amnon humilia Tamar, sa soeur. | Et Jonadab fils de Simha, frère de David, prit la parole, et dit: Que mon Seigneur ne dise point qu'on a tué tous les jeunes hommes fils du Roi, car Amnon seul est mort; parce que ce qu'Absalom s'était proposé dès le jour qu'Amnon viola Tamar sa soeur, a été exécuté selon son commandement. | And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah, David`s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have killed all the young men the king`s sons; for Amnon only is dead; for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. |
| 33 | Et maintenant, que le roi, mon seigneur ne prenne pas ceci à coeur, disant: Tous les fils du roi sont morts; car Amnon seul est mort. | Maintenant donc que le Roi mon Seigneur ne mette point ceci dans son coeur, en disant que tous les fils du Roi sont morts; car Amnon seul est mort. | Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king`s sons are dead; for Amnon only is dead. |
| 34 | Et Absalom s'enfuit. Et le jeune homme qui était en sentinelle leva ses yeux et regarda; et voici, un grand peuple venait par le chemin qui était derrière lui, du côté de la montagne. | Or Absalom s'enfuit, mais celui qui était en sentinelle levant les yeux, regarda; et voici, un grand peuple venait par le chemin de derrière lui, à côté de la montagne. | But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill-side behind him. |
| 35 | Et Jonadab dit au roi: Voici les fils du roi qui viennent; selon la parole de ton serviteur, ainsi il en est arrivé. | Et Jonadab dit au Roi: Voici les fils du Roi qui viennent; la chose est arrivée comme ton serviteur a dit. | And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king`s sons are come: as thy servant said, so it is. |
| 36 | Et comme il achevait de parler, voici, les fils du roi arrivèrent, et ils élevèrent leur voix et pleurèrent; et le roi aussi, et tous ses serviteurs pleurèrent très-amèrement. | Or aussitôt qu'il eut achevé de parler, voici on vit arriver les fils du Roi, qui élevèrent leur voix, et pleurèrent; le Roi aussi et tous ses serviteurs pleurèrent beaucoup. | And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king`s sons came, and lifted up their voice, and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore. |
| 37 | Et Absalom s'enfuit, et s'en alla vers Talmaï, fils d'Ammihud, roi de Gueshur; et David menait deuil tous les jours sur son fils. | Mais Absalom s'enfuit, et se retira vers Talmaï, fils de Hammihud Roi de Guesur: et David pleurait tous les jours sur son fils. | But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai the son of Ammihur, king of Geshur. And [David] mourned for his son every day. |
| 38 | Ainsi Absalom s'enfuit, et il vint à Gueshur et fut là trois ans; | Quand Absalom se fut enfui, et qu'il fut venu à Guesur, il demeura là trois ans. | So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years. |
| 39 | et le roi David languissait d'aller vers Absalom, car il était consolé à l'égard d'Ammon, parce qu'il était mort. | Puis il prit envie au Roi David d'aller vers Absalom, parce qu'il était consolé de la mort d'Amnon. | And [the soul of] king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead. |
