| 6 | And when the children of Ammon saw that they stank before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Bethrehob and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand footmen, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ishtob twelve thousand men. | Quando i figli di Ammon si accorsero di essersi resi odiosi a Davide, mandarono ad assoldare ventimila fanti dei Siri di Beth-Rehob e dei Siri di Tsoba, mille uomini del re di Maakah e dodicimila uomini della gente di Tob. |
| 7 | And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men. | Come Davide udì questo, inviò contro di loro Joab con tutto l'esercito di uomini valorosi. |
| 8 | And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate: and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ishtob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field. | I figli di Ammon uscirono e si schierarono in ordine di battaglia all'ingresso della porta della città, mentre i Siri di Tsoba e di Rehob, e la gente di Tob e di Maakah si disposero in aperta campagna. |
| 9 | When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians: | Quando Joab si rese conto che aveva contro di se due fronti di battaglia, uno davanti e l'altro dietro, scelse alcuni fra gli uomini migliori d'Israele e li dispose in ordine di battaglia contro i Siri; |
| 10 | And the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon. | affidò quindi il resto del popolo agli ordini di suo fratello Abishai, per schierarsi contro i figli di Ammon. |
| 11 | And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me: but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee. | Poi gli disse: Se i Siri sono più forti di me, tu mi verrai in aiuto; se invece i figli di Ammon sono più forti di te, allora verrò io in tuo aiuto. |
| 12 | Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God: and the LORD do that which seemeth him good. | Sii coraggioso e mostriamoci forti per il nostro popolo e per le città del nostro DIO; e l'Eterno faccia ciò che a lui piacerà. |
| 13 | And Joab drew nigh, and the people that were with him, unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him. | Poi Joab con la gente che aveva con sé avanzò per dar battaglia ai Siri; ma essi fuggirono davanti a lui. |
| 14 | And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, then fled they also before Abishai, and entered into the city. So Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem. | Quando i figli di Ammon videro che i Siri erano fuggiti, fuggirono anch'essi davanti ad Abishai e rientrarono nella città. Allora Joab se ne tornò dalla spedizione contro i figli di Ammon e venne a Gerusalemme. |
| 15 | And when the Syrians saw that they were smitten before Israel, they gathered themselves together. | Quando i Siri videro che erano stati sconfitti da Israele si riunirono insieme. |
| 16 | And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the river: and they came to Helam; and Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer went before them. | Hadadezer mandò messaggeri per far venire i Siri che erano di là dal Fiume. Essi giunsero a Helam, con alla testa Shobak, capo dell'esercito di Hadadezer. |
| 17 | And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him. | Quando Davide fu informato della cosa, radunò tutto Israele, passò il Giordano e giunse a Helam. I Siri si schierarono contro Davide e gli diedero battaglia. |
| 18 | And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, who died there. | Ma i Siri fuggirono davanti a Israele; e Davide uccise dei Siri gli uomini di settecento carri e quarantamila cavalieri e colpì Shobak, capo del loro esercito, che morì in quel luogo. |
| 19 | And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were smitten before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more. | Quando tutti i re vassalli di Hadadezer si videro sconfitti da Israele, fecero pace con Israele e furono a lui sottoposti.
