| 1 | Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had abode two days in Ziklag; | Or il arriva qu'après que Saül fut mort, David étant revenu de la défaite des Hamalécites, demeura à Tsiklag deux jours. |
| 2 | It came even to pass on the third day, that, behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his clothes rent, and earth upon his head: and so it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the earth, and did obeisance. | Et au troisième jour, voici un homme qui revenait du camp de Saül, ayant ses vêtements déchirés, et de la terre sur sa tête, lequel étant venu à David, se jeta en terre, et se prosterna. |
| 3 | And David said unto him, From whence comest thou? And he said unto him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped. | Et David lui dit: D'où viens-tu? et il lui répondit: Je me suis échappé du camp d'Israël. |
| 4 | And David said unto him, How went the matter? I pray thee, tell me. And he answered, That the people are fled from the battle, and many of the people also are fallen and dead; and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also. | David lui dit: Qu'est-il arrivé? Je te prie, raconte-le moi. Il répondit: Le peuple s'est enfui de la bataille, et il y en a eu beaucoup du peuple qui sont tombés morts; Saül aussi et Jonathan son fils sont morts. |
| 5 | And David said unto the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son be dead? | Et David dit à ce jeune garçon qui lui disait ces nouvelles: Comment sais-tu que Saül et Jonathan son fils soient morts? |
| 6 | And the young man that told him said, As I happened by chance upon mount Gilboa, behold, Saul leaned upon his spear; and, lo, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him. | Et le jeune garçon qui lui disait ces nouvelles, lui répondit: Je me trouvai par hasard en la montagne de Guilboah, et voici Saül se tenait penché sur sa hallebarde, car voici, un chariot et quelques Chefs de gens de cheval le poursuivaient. |
| 7 | And when he looked behind him, he saw me, and called unto me. And I answered, Here am I. | Et regardant derrière soi, il me vit, et m'appela; et je lui répondis: Me voici. |
| 8 | And he said unto me, Who art thou? And I answered him, I am an Amalekite. | Et il me dit: Qui es-tu? et je lui répondis: Je suis Hamalécite. |
| 9 | He said unto me again, Stand, I pray thee, upon me, and slay me: for anguish is come upon me, because my life is yet whole in me. | Et il me dit: Tiens-toi ferme sur moi, je te prie, et me tue; car je suis dans une grande angoisse, et ma vie est encore toute en moi. |
| 10 | So I stood upon him, and slew him, because I was sure that he could not live after that he was fallen: and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither unto my lord. | Je me suis donc tenu ferme sur lui, et je l'ai fait mourir; car je savais bien qu'il ne vivrait pas après s'être ainsi jeté sur sa hallebarde; et j'ai pris la couronne qu'il avait sur sa tête, et le bracelet qu'il avait en son bras, et je les ai apportés ici à mon Seigneur. |
| 11 | Then David took hold on his clothes, and rent them; and likewise all the men that were with him: | Alors David prit ses vêtements, et les déchira; et tous les hommes qui étaient avec lui en firent de même. |
| 12 | And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the LORD, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword. | Ils menèrent deuil, ils pleurèrent, et ils jeûnèrent jusqu'au soir, à cause de Saül et de Jonathan son fils, et à cause du peuple de l'Eternel, et de la maison d'Israël, parce qu'ils étaient tombés par l'épée. |
| 13 | And David said unto the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he answered, I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite. | Mais David dit au jeune garçon qui lui avait dit ces nouvelles: D'où es-tu? Et il répondit: Je suis fils d'un étranger Hamalécite. |
| 14 | And David said unto him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thine hand to destroy the LORD's anointed? | Et David lui dit: Comment n'as-tu pas craint d'avancer ta main pour tuer l'Oint de l'Eternel? |
| 15 | And David called one of the young men, and said, Go near, and fall upon him. And he smote him that he died. | Alors David appela l'un de ses gens, et lui dit: Approche-toi, et te jette sur lui; lequel le frappa, et il mourut. |
| 16 | And David said unto him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth hath testified against thee, saying, I have slain the LORD's anointed. | Car David lui avait dit: Ton sang soit sur ta tête, puisque ta bouche a porté témoignage contre toi, en disant: J'ai fait mourir l'Oint de l'Eternel. |
| 17 | And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son: | Alors David fit sur Saül, et sur Jonathan son fils, cette complainte, |
| 18 | (Also he bade them teach the children of Judah the use of the bow: behold, it is written in the book of Jasher.) | Laquelle il proféra pour enseigner aux enfants de Juda à tirer de l'arc; voici elle est écrite au Livre de Jasar. |

| 20 | Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Askelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. | Ne l'allez point dire dans Gath, et n'en portez point les nouvelles dans les places d'Askélon; de peur que les filles des Philistins ne s'en réjouissent, de peur que les filles des incirconcis n'en tressaillent de joie. |
| 21 | Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, neither let there be rain, upon you, nor fields of offerings: for there the shield of the mighty is vilely cast away, the shield of Saul, as though he had not been anointed with oil. | Montagne de Guilboah, que la rosée et la pluie ne tombent point sur vous, ni sur les champs qui y sont haut élevés; parce que c'est là qu'a été jeté le bouclier des forts, et le bouclier de Saül, comme s'il n'eût point été oint d'huile. |
| 22 | From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, the bow of Jonathan turned not back, and the sword of Saul returned not empty. | L'arc de Jonathan ne revenait jamais sans le sang des morts, et sans la graisse des forts; et l'épée de Saül ne retournait jamais sans effet. |
| 23 | Saul and Jonathan were lovely and pleasant in their lives, and in their death they were not divided: they were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions. | Saül et Jonathan, aimables et agréables en leur vie, n'ont point été séparés dans leur mort; ils étaient plus légers que les aigles, ils étaient plus forts que des lions. |
