| 2 | Let us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye. | Lasciaci andare fino al Giordano; là ciascuno di noi prenderà una trave e là ci faremo un luogo per abitarvi. Eliseo rispose: Andate. |
| 3 | And one said, Be pleased, I pray thee, to go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go. | Uno di loro disse: Ti prego, degnati di venire con i tuoi servi. Egli rispose: Verrò. |
| 4 | So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down wood. | Così andò con loro. Giunti al Giordano, si misero a tagliare alcuni alberi. |
| 5 | But as one was felling a beam, the axe-head fell into the water; and he cried, and said, Alas, my master! for it was borrowed. | Mentre uno abbatteva un tronco, il ferro della scure gli cadde nell'acqua. Egli si mise quindi a gridare e disse: Ah, mio signore, questo l'avevo preso in prestito. |
| 6 | And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he showed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither, and made the iron to swim. | L'uomo di DIO domandò: Dov'è caduto?. Egli indicò a lui il posto. Allora Eliseo tagliò un pezzo di legno, lo getto in quel punto e fece venire a galla il ferro. |
| 7 | And he said, Take it up to thee. So he put out his hand, and took it. | Poi disse: Prendilo. Così egli stese la mano e lo prese. |
| 8 | Now the king of Syria was warring against Israel; and he took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp. | Mentre il re di Siria era in guerra contro Israele, consultandosi con i suoi servi, disse: Il mio accampamento sarà nel tal posto. |
| 9 | And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are coming down. | Allora l'uomo di DIO mandò a dire al re d'Israele: Guardati dal trascurare quel tal luogo, perché vi stanno scendendo i Siri. |
| 10 | And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of; and he saved himself there, not once nor twice. | Perciò il re d'Israele mandò gente verso il luogo che l'uomo di DIO gli aveva indicato e di cui l'aveva messo in guardia. Così egli mantenne in quel luogo vigilanza; e ciò avvenne non una o due volte soltanto. |
| 11 | And the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not show me which of us is for the king of Israel? | Molto turbato in cuor suo per questa cosa, il re di Siria convocò i suoi servi e disse loro: Non sapete dirmi chi dei nostri parteggia per il re d'Israele?. |
| 12 | And one of his servants said, Nay, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, telleth the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber. | Uno dei suoi servi rispose: Nessuno, o re mio signore, ma Eliseo, il profeta che è in Israele, fa sapere al re d'Israele perfino le parole che tu dici nella camera da letto. |
| 13 | And he said, Go and see where he is, that I may send and fetch him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan. | Allora il re disse: Andate a vedere dove si trova, perché lo possa mandare a prendere. Gli fu riferito: Ecco, si trova a Dothan. |
| 14 | Therefore sent he thither horses, and chariots, and a great host: and they came by night, and compassed the city about. | Così il re vi mandò cavalli, carri e un grande esercito; essi giunsero di notte e circondarono la città. |
| 15 | And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, a host with horses and chariots was round about the city. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? | L'indomani il servo dell'uomo di DIO si alzò al mattino presto e uscì? ed ecco, la città era circondata da un esercito con cavalli e cavalieri. Allora il suo servo gli disse: Ah, cosa faremo, mio signore?. |
| 16 | And he answered, Fear not; for they that are with us are more than they that are with them. | Egli rispose: Non temere, perché quelli che sono con noi, sono più numerosi di quelli che sono con loro. |
| 17 | And Elisha prayed, and said, Jehovah, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And Jehovah opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. | Poi Eliseo pregò e disse: O Eterno, ti prego, apri i suoi occhi, perché possa vedere. L'Eterno allora aperse gli occhi del giovane e questi vide; ed ecco il monte era pieno di cavalli e di carri di fuoco, tutt'intorno ad Eliseo. |
| 18 | And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto Jehovah, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. | Come i Siri scendevano verso Eliseo, questi pregò l'Eterno e disse: Ti prego, colpisci questa gente di cecità Ed egli li accecò, secondo la parola d'Eliseo. |
| 19 | And Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city: follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them to Samaria. | Allora Eliseo disse loro: Non è questa la strada e non è questa la città: seguitemi e io vi condurrò dall'uomo che cercate. Quindi li condusse a Samaria. |
| 20 | And it came to pass, when they were come into Samaria, that Elisha said, Jehovah, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And Jehovah opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria. | Quando giunsero a Samaria, Eliseo disse: O Eterno, apri loro gli occhi, perché vedano. L'Eterno aperse loro gli occhi ed essi videro; ed ecco, si trovavano dentro Samaria. |
| 21 | And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them? | Quando il re d'Israele li vide, disse ad Eliseo: Padre mio, li devo uccidere? Li devo uccidere?. |
| 22 | And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master. | Egli rispose: Non ucciderli! Uccideresti forse quelli che hai fatto prigionieri con la tua spada e col tuo arco? Metti loro davanti pane e acqua, affinché mangino e bevano e poi ritornino dal loro signore. |
| 23 | And he prepared great provision for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. And the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel. | Allora egli preparò per loro un grande banchetto. Dopo che ebbero mangiato e bevuto, li congedò, ed essi ritornarono dal loro signore. Così le bande dei Siri, non vennero più a fare incursioni nel territorio d'Israele. |
| 24 | And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad king of Syria gathered all his host, and went up, and besieged Samaria. | Dopo queste cose avvenne che Ben-Hadad, re di Siria, radunò tutto il suo esercito e salì contro Samaria per stringerla d'assedio. |
| 25 | And there was a great famine in Samaria: and, behold, they besieged it, until an ass`s head was sold for fourscore [pieces] of silver, and the fourth part of a kab of dove`s dung for five [pieces] of silver. | Or ci fu una grande carestia in Samaria; e i Siri la tennero assediata a tal punto che una testa d'asino era venduta per ottanta sicli d'argento e il quarto di un kab di sterco di colombi per cinque sicli d'argento. |
| 26 | And as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, there cried a woman unto him, saying, Help, my lord, O king. | Mentre il re d'Israele passava sulle mura, una donna gli gridò e disse: Aiuto, o re, mio signore!. |
| 27 | And he said, If Jehovah do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the threshing-floor, or out of the winepress? | Egli le rispose: Se non ti aiuta l'Eterno, dove posso io trovare aiuto per te? Forse con i prodotti dell'aia o del torchio?. |
| 28 | And the king said unto her, What aileth thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son, that we may eat him to-day, and we will eat my son to-morrow. | Poi il re aggiunse: Che cos'hai? Ella rispose: Questa donna mi ha detto "Dammi tuo figlio perché lo mangiamo oggi; mio figlio lo mangeremo domani". |
| 29 | So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him; and she hath hid her son. | Così abbiamo fatto cuocere mio figlio e l'abbiamo mangiato. Il giorno seguente io le ho detto: "Dammi tuo figlio perché lo mangiamo". Ma essa ha nascosto suo figlio. |
| 30 | And it came to pass, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he rent his clothes (now he was passing by upon the wall); and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh. | Quando il re udì le parole della donna, si stracciò le vesti. Mentre passava sulle mura, il popolo guardò, ed ecco sotto egli portava un cilicio sulla carne. |
| 31 | Then he said, God do so to me, and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat shall stand on him this day. | Allora il re disse: DIO mi faccia questo e anche peggio, se oggi la testa di Eliseo, figlio di Shafat, resterà ancora sulle sue spalle!. |
| 32 | But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him; and [the king] sent a man from before him: but ere the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer hath sent to take away my head? look, when the messenger cometh, shut the door, and hold the door fast against him: is not the sound of his master`s feet behind him? | Or Eliseo se ne stava seduto in casa sua, e con lui sedevano gli anziani. Il re mandò davanti a sé un uomo, prima però che il messaggero giungesse da lui egli disse agli anziani: Vedete che questo figlio di un assassino ha mandato qualcuno a tagliarmi la testa? Fate attenzione, quando il messaggero arriva, chiudete la porta e tenetelo fermo alla porta. Non si sente forse dietro di lui il rumore dei passi del suo signore?. |
| 33 | And while he was yet talking with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him: and he said, Behold, this evil is of Jehovah; why should I wait for Jehovah any longer? | Mentre egli stava ancora parlando con loro, ecco scendere da lui il messaggero. Il re allora disse: Ecco questa calamità viene dall'Eterno; cosa potrei ancora io sperare dall'Eterno?. |
