| 3 | Salmanasar, roi d'Assyrie, monta contre lui, et Osée fut assujetti et lui paya tribut. | Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria; and Hoshea became his servant, and brought him tribute. |
| 4 | Mais le roi d'Assyrie découvrit une conspiration d'Osée, qui avait envoyé des messagers à Sua, roi d'Egypte, et qui ne payait plus le tribut au roi d'Assyrie, année par année; le roi d'Assyrie le fit donc saisir et jeter enchaîné dans une prison. | And the king of Assyria found conspiracy in Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So king of Egypt, and offered no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year: therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison. |
| 5 | Et le roi d'Assyrie parcourut tout le pays et monta contre Samarie; il l'assiégea pendant trois ans. | Then the king of Assyria came up throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria, and besieged it three years. |
| 6 | La neuvième année d'Osée, le roi d'Assyrie prit Samarie; et emmena Israël captif en Assyrie. Il leur assigna pour séjour Hala, les rives du Habor, fleuve de Gosan, et les villes des Mèdes. | In the ninth year of Hoshea the king of Assyria took Samaria, and carried Israel away unto Assyria, and placed them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. |
| 7 | Cela arriva parce que les enfants d'Israël avaient péché contre Yahweh, leur Dieu, qui les avait fait monter du pays d'Egypte, de dessous la main de Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, et parce qu'ils avaient craint d'autres dieux. | And it was so, because the children of Israel had sinned against Jehovah their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and had feared other gods, |
| 8 | Ils suivirent les rites des nations que Yahweh avait chassées devant les enfants d'Israël, et ceux que les rois d'Israël avaient établis. | and walked in the statutes of the nations, whom Jehovah cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they made. |
| 9 | Les enfants d'Israël couvrirent d'une fausse apparence des choses qui n'étaient pas bien à l'égard de Yahweh, leur Dieu. Ils se bâtirent des hauts lieux dans toutes leurs villes, depuis les tours des gardiens jusqu'aux villes fortifiées. | And the children of Israel did secretly things that were not right against Jehovah their God: and they built them high places in all their cities, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city; |
| 10 | Ils se dressèrent des stèles et des aschérahs sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert. | and they set them up pillars and Asherim upon every high hill, and under every green tree; |
| 11 | Et là ils brûlèrent des parfums sur tous les hauts lieux, comme les nations que Yahweh avait emmenées captives devant eux, et ils firent des choses mauvaises, irritant ainsi Yahweh. | and there they burnt incense in all the high places, as did the nations whom Jehovah carried away before them; and they wrought wicked things to provoke Jehovah to anger; |
| 12 | Ils servirent les idoles, au sujet desquelles Yahweh leur avait dit : « Vous ne ferez pas cela. » | and they served idols, whereof Jehovah had said unto them, Ye shall not do this thing. |
| 13 | Yahweh rendit témoignage contre Israël et contre Juda par tous ses prophètes, par tous les voyants, en disant : « Revenez de vos mauvaises voies, et observez mes commandements et mes ordonnances, en suivant toute la loi que j'ai prescrite à vos pères et que je vous ai envoyée par l'organe de mes serviteurs les prophètes. » | Yet Jehovah testified unto Israel, and unto Judah, by every prophet, and every seer, saying, Turn ye from your evil ways, and keep my commandments and my statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by my servants the prophets. |
| 14 | Mais ils n'écoutèrent point, et ils raidirent leur cou, comme leurs pères, qui n'avaient pas cru à Yahweh, leur Dieu. | Notwithstanding, they would not hear, but hardened their neck, like to the neck of their fathers, who believed not in Jehovah their God. |
| 15 | Ils rejetèrent ses ordonnances et son alliance qu'il avait conclue avec leurs pères, et les témoignages qu'il avait rendus contre eux. Ils allèrent après des choses de néant, et s'adonnèrent à la vanité, à la suite des nations qui les entouraient et que Yahweh leur avait commandé de ne pas imiter. | And they rejected his statutes, and his covenant that he made with their fathers, and his testimonies which he testified unto them; and they followed vanity, and became vain, and [went] after the nations that were round about them, concerning whom Jehovah had charged them that they should not do like them. |
| 16 | Ils abandonnèrent tous les commandements de Yahweh, leur Dieu, ils se firent deux veaux en fonte, et ils se firent des aschérahs; ils se prosternèrent devant toute l'armée des cieux et ils servirent Baal. | And they forsook all the commandments of Jehovah their God, and made them molten images, even two calves, and made an Asherah, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served Baal. |
| 17 | Ils firent passer par le feu leurs fils et leurs filles, ils pratiquèrent la divination et les enchantements, et ils s'appliquèrent à faire ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh, de manière à l'irriter. | And they caused their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire, and used divination and enchantments, and sold themselves to do that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, to provoke him to anger. |
| 18 | Et Yahweh s'est fortement irrité contre Israël et il les a éloignés de sa face. --Il n'est resté que la seule tribu de Juda, | Therefore Jehovah was very angry with Israel, and removed them out of his sight: there was none left but the tribe of Judah only. |
| 19 | quoique Juda lui-même n'eût pas gardé les commandements de Yahweh, leur Dieu, et qu'ils eussent suivi les rites établis par Israël.-- | Also Judah kept not the commandments of Jehovah their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. |
| 20 | Yahweh a rejeté toute la race d'Israël; il les a affligés, il les a livrés entre les mains des pillards, jusqu'à ce qu'il les ait chassés loin de sa face. | And Jehovah rejected all the seed of Israel, and afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of spoilers, until he had cast them out of his sight. |
| 21 | Car Israël s'était détaché de la maison de David, et ils avaient établi roi Jéroboam, fils de Nabat; et Jéroboam avait détourné Israël de Yahweh et leur avait fait commettre un grand péché. | For he rent Israel from the house of David; and they made Jeroboam the son of Nebat king: and Jeroboam drove Israel from following Jehovah, and made them sin a great sin. |
| 22 | Et les enfants d'Israël marchèrent dans tous les péchés que Jéroboam avait commis; | And the children of Israel walked in all the sins of Jeroboam which he did; they departed not from them; |
| 23 | ils ne s'en détournèrent point, jusqu'à ce que Yahweh eût chassé Israël loin de sa face, comme il l'avait dit par l'organe de tous ses serviteurs les prophètes. Et Israël fut emmené captif loin de son pays en Assyrie, où il est resté jusqu'à ce jour. | until Jehovah removed Israel out of his sight, as he spake by all his servants the prophets. So Israel was carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day. |
| 24 | Le roi d'Assyrie fit venir des gens de Babylone, de Cutha, d'Avah, d'Emath et de Sépharvaïm, et les établit dans les villes de Samarie à la place des enfants d'Israël; ils prirent possession de Samarie et ils habitèrent dans ses villes. | And the king of Assyria brought men from Babylon, and from Cuthah, and from Avva, and from Hamath and Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel; and they possessed Samaria, and dwelt in the cities thereof. |
| 25 | Lorsqu'ils commencèrent à y habiter, ils ne craignaient pas Yahweh, et Yahweh envoya contre eux des lions qui les tuaient. | And so it was, at the beginning of their dwelling there, that they feared not Jehovah: therefore Jehovah sent lions among them, which killed some of them. |
| 26 | On fit donc ce rapport au roi d'Assyrie : « Les nations que tu as déportées et établies dans les villes de Samarie ne connaissent pas la manière de servir le dieu du pays; et il a envoyé contre elles des lions et voici qu'ils les font mourir; parce qu'elles ignorent la manière de servir le dieu du pays. » | Wherefore they spake to the king of Assyria, saying, The nations which thou hast carried away, and placed in the cities of Samaria, know not the law of the god of the land: therefore he hath sent lions among them, and, behold, they slay them, because they know not the law of the god of the land. |
| 27 | Le roi d'Assyrie donna cet ordre : « Envoyez-y un des prêtres que vous avez amenés de là en captivité; qu'il aille s'y établir, et qu'il leur enseigne la manière de servir le dieu du pays. » | Then the king of Assyria commanded, saying, Carry thither one of the priests whom ye brought from thence; and let them go and dwell there, and let him teach them the law of the god of the land. |
| 28 | Un des prêtres qu'on avait emmenés captifs de Samarie vint s'établir à Béthel, et leur enseigna comment ils devaient honorer Yahweh. | So one of the priests whom they had carried away from Samaria came and dwelt in Beth-el, and taught them how they should fear Jehovah. |
| 29 | Mais les nations firent chacune leurs dieux, et les placèrent dans les maisons des hauts lieux bâties par les Samaritains, chaque nation dans la ville qu'elle habitait. | Howbeit every nation made gods of their own, and put them in the houses of the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in their cities wherein they dwelt. |
| 30 | Les gens de Babylone firent Sochoth-Benoth, les gens de Cutha firent Nergel, les gens d'Emath firent Asima, | And the men of Babylon made Succoth-benoth, and the men of Cuth made Nergal, and the men of Hamath made Ashima, |
| 31 | ceux d'Avah firent Nebahaz et Tharthac, et ceux de Sapharvaïm livraient leurs enfants au feu en l'honneur d'Adramélech et d'Anamélech, dieux de Sépharvaïm. | and the Avvites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burnt their children in the fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. |
| 32 | Ils honoraient aussi Yahweh, et ils se firent des prêtres des hauts lieux pris parmi tout le peuple, et ces prêtres faisaient pour eux des sacrifices dans les maisons des hauts lieux. | So they feared Jehovah, and made unto them from among themselves priests of the high places, who sacrificed for them in the houses of the high places. |
| 33 | Ainsi ils honoraient Yahweh, et ils servaient en même temps leurs dieux selon la coutume des nations d'où on les avait déportés. | They feared Jehovah, and served their own gods, after the manner of the nations from among whom they had been carried away. |
| 34 | Ils suivent jusqu'à aujourd'hui les premières coutumes; ils ne craignent point Yahweh, et ils ne se conforment ni à leurs règlements et à leurs ordonnances, ni à la loi et aux commandements donnés par Yahweh aux enfants de Jacob, qu'il appela du nom d'Israël. | Unto this day they do after the former manner: they fear not Jehovah, neither do they after their statutes, or after their ordinances, or after the law or after the commandment which Jehovah commanded the children of Jacob, whom he named Israel; |
| 35 | Yahweh avait conclu une alliance avec eux et leur avait donné cet ordre : « Vous ne craindrez point d'autres dieux, vous ne vous prosternerez point devant eux, vous ne les servirez point et vous ne leur offrirez point de sacrifices. | with whom Jehovah had made a covenant, and charged them, saying, Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: |
| 36 | Mais Yahweh, votre Dieu, qui vous a fait monter du pays d'Egypte par une grande puissance et par son bras étendu, c'est lui que vous craindrez, devant lui que vous vous prosternerez, à lui que vous offrirez des sacrifices. | but Jehovah, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and with an outstretched arm, him shall ye fear, and unto him shall ye bow yourselves, and to him shall ye sacrifice: |
| 37 | Vous observerez les préceptes, les ordonnances, la loi et les commandements qu'il a écrits pour vous, les mettant toujours en pratique, et vous ne craindrez point d'autres dieux. | and the statutes and the ordinances, and the law and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods: |
| 38 | Vous n'oublierez pas l'alliance que j'ai conclue avec vous, et vous ne craindrez point d'autres dieux. | and the covenant that I have made with you ye shall not forget; neither shall ye fear other gods: |
| 39 | Mais vous craindrez Yahweh, votre Dieu, et c'est lui qui vous délivrera de la main de tous vos ennemis. » | but Jehovah your God shall ye fear; and he will deliver you out of the hand of all your enemies. |
| 40 | Et ils n'ont pas obéi, mais ils ont suivi leurs premières coutumes. | Howbeit they did not hearken, but they did after their former manner. |
| 41 | Ainsi ces nations craignaient Yahweh, et en même temps servaient leurs images, et leurs enfants et les enfants de leurs enfants font jusqu'à ce jour ce qu'on fait leurs pères. | So these nations feared Jehovah, and served their graven images; their children likewise, and their children`s children, as did their fathers, so do they unto this day. |
