| 3 | Blessed [be] the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort; | Benedetto sia Dio e Padre del nostro Signore Gesù Cristo, il Padre delle misericordie e il Dio di ogni consolazione, |
| 4 | who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. | il quale ci consola in ogni nostra afflizione affinché, per mezzo della consolazione con cui noi stessi siamo da Dio consolati, possiamo consolare coloro che si trovano in qualsiasi afflizione. |

| 6 | But whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: | Ora se siamo afflitti, ciò è per la vostra consolazione e salvezza, se siamo consolati, ciò è per la vostra consolazione e salvezza, che operano efficacemente nel sostenere le medesime sofferenze che patiamo anche noi. |
| 7 | and our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort. | La nostra speranza a vostro riguardo è salda, sapendo che, come siete partecipi delle sofferenze, così sarete anche partecipi della consolazione. |
| 8 | For we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell [us] in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life: | Perché non vogliamo, fratelli, che ignoriate la nostra afflizione che ci capitò in Asia, come siamo stati eccessivamente gravati al di là delle nostre forze, tanto da giungere a disperare della vita stessa. |

| 10 | who delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us; | il quale ci ha liberati e ci libera da un sì grande pericolo di morte, e nel quale speriamo che ci libererà ancora nell'avvenire, |
| 11 | ye also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf. | mentre voi stessi vi unite a noi per aiutarci in preghiera, affinché siano rese grazie per noi da parte di molti, per il beneficio che ci sarà accordato tramite la preghiera di molte persone. |
| 12 | For our glorifying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward. | Il nostro vanto infatti è questo: la testimonianza della nostra coscienza, che nel mondo e specialmente davanti a voi, ci siamo comportati con la semplicità e sincerità di Dio, non con sapienza carnale, ma con la grazia di Dio. |
| 13 | For we write no other things unto you, than what ye read or even acknowledge, and I hope ye will acknowledge unto the end: | Perché non vi scriviamo altre cose se non quelle che potete leggere o comprendere; e io spero che le comprenderete fino in fondo; |
| 14 | as also ye did acknowledge us in part, that we are your glorying, even as ye also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus. | come in parte ci avete già compreso, che noi siamo il vostro vanto, così anche voi sarete il nostro nel giorno del Signore nostro Gesù Cristo, |
| 15 | And in this confidence I was minded to come first unto you, that ye might have a second benefit; | E con questa fiducia io volevo venire prima da voi affinché poteste avere un secondo beneficio, |
| 16 | and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea. | e, passando da voi, andare in Macedonia, e poi di nuovo dalla Macedonia venire da voi e da voi essere accompagnato in Giudea. |
| 17 | When I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay? | Facendo dunque questa decisione, ho io agito con leggerezza? O le cose che io decido, le decido io secondo la carne, di modo che vi sia in me allo stesso tempo il sì, sì, e il no, no? |
| 18 | But as God is faithful, our word toward you is not yea and nay. | Ora, come è vero che Dio è fedele, la nostra parola verso di voi non è stata sì e no. |
| 19 | For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, [even] by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea. | Perché il Figlio di Dio, Gesù Cristo, che è stato fra voi predicato da noi cioè da me, da Silvano e da Timoteo non è stato sì e no, ma è stato sì in lui. |
| 20 | For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us. | Poiché tutte le promesse di Dio hanno in lui il sì e l'amen, alla gloria di Dio per mezzo di noi. |
| 21 | Now he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God; | Or colui che ci conferma assieme a voi in Cristo e ci ha unti è Dio, |
| 22 | who also sealed us, and gave [us] the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. | il quale ci ha anche sigillati e ci ha dato la caparra dello Spirito nei nostri cuori. |
| 23 | But I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth. | Or io chiamo Dio come testimone sulla mia stessa vita che, per risparmiarvi, non sono ancora venuto a Corinto. |
| 24 | Not that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast. | Non già che dominiamo sulla vostra fede, ma siamo collaboratori della vostra gioia, perché voi state saldi per fede. |
