| 5 | Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build a house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be prince over my people Israel: | "Dal giorno in cui feci uscire il mio popolo d'Israele dal paese d'Egitto, io non ho scelto alcuna città fra tutte le tribù d'Israele, per edificarvi una casa, dove il mio nome dimorasse, e non ho scelto alcun uomo perché fosse principe sul mio popolo d'Israele, |

| 8 | But Jehovah said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thy heart to build a house for my name, thou didst well that it was in thy heart: | ma l'Eterno disse a Davide mio padre: "Tu avevi in cuore di costruire un tempio al mio nome, e hai fatto bene ad avere questo in cuore; |
| 9 | nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name. | ma non sarai tu che costruirai il tempio, sarà invece il figlio che uscirà dai tuoi lombi, sarà lui che costruirà il tempio al mio nome". |
| 10 | And Jehovah hath performed his word that he spake; for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as Jehovah promised, and have built the house for the name of Jehovah, the God of Israel. | Così l'Eterno ha adempiuto la parola che aveva pronunciato, e io ho preso il posto di Davide mio padre e mi sono seduto sul trono d'Israele, come l'Eterno aveva promesso, e ho costruito il tempio al nome dell'Eterno, il DIO d'Israele. |
| 11 | And there have I set the ark, wherein is the covenant of Jehovah, which he made with the children of Israel. | Là ho posto l'arca, in cui si trova il patto dell'Eterno, che egli fece con i figli d'Israele. |

| 13 | (for Solomon had made a brazen scaffold, five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court; and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the assembly of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven;) | (Salomone infatti aveva fatto costruire una tribuna di bronzo, lunga cinque cubiti, larga cinque cubiti e alta tre cubiti, e l'aveva posta in mezzo al cortile; egli vi salì, si inginocchiò di fronte a tutta l'assemblea d'Israele, stese le mani verso il cielo). |
| 14 | and he said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven, or on earth; who keepest covenant and lovingkindness with thy servants, that walk before thee with all their heart; | e disse: O Eterno DIO d'Israele, non c'è alcun DIO simile a te, né in cielo né sulla terra. Tu mantieni il patto e la misericordia verso i tuoi servi che camminano davanti a te con tutto il loro cuore. |
| 15 | who hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou didst promise him: yea, thou spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thy hand, as it is this day. | Tu hai mantenuto col tuo servo Davide, mio padre, ciò che gli avevi promesso; sì oggi hai compiuto con la tua mano ciò che avevi promesso con la tua bocca. |
| 16 | Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel, if only thy children take heed to their way, to walk in my law as thou hast walked before me. | Ora dunque, o Eterno, DIO d'Israele, mantieni col tuo servo Davide, mio padre, ciò che gli hai promesso dicendo: "A te non mancherà mai alcuno che sieda davanti a me sul trono d'Israele, purché i tuoi figli veglino sulla loro condotta e per camminare nella mia legge, come tu hai camminato davanti a me" |
| 17 | Now therefore, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David. | Ora dunque, o Eterno, DIO d'Israele, si adempia la parola che hai detto al tuo servo Davide! |
| 18 | But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have builded! | Ma è proprio vero che DIO abita con gli uomini sulla terra? Ecco, i cieli e i cieli dei cieli non possono contenerti, tanto meno questo tempio che io ho costruito! |
| 19 | Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O Jehovah my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee; | Tuttavia, o Eterno, DIO mio, presta attenzione alla preghiera del tuo servo e alla sua supplica, ascoltando il grido e la preghiera che il tuo servo innalza davanti a te. |
| 20 | that thine eyes may be open toward this house day and night, even toward the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall pray toward this place. | I tuoi occhi siano rivolti giorno e notte verso questo tempio, verso il luogo di cui hai detto: "Lì sarà il mio nome", per ascoltare le preghiere che il tuo servo farà rivolto a questo luogo. |
| 21 | And hearken thou to the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: yea, hear thou from thy dwelling-place, even from heaven; and when thou hearest forgive. | Ascolta le suppliche del tuo servo e del tuo popolo Israele quando pregheranno rivolti a questo luogo. Ascolta dal luogo della tua dimora, dai cieli; ascolta e perdona. |
| 22 | If a man sin against his neighbor, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and he come [and] swear before thine altar in this house; | Se uno pecca contro il suo prossimo e, perché costretto a giurare, viene a giurare davanti al tuo altare in questo tempio, |
| 23 | then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, requiting the wicked, to bring his way upon his own head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. | tu ascolta dal cielo, intervieni e giudica i tuoi servi, condanna il colpevole, facendo ricadere sul suo capo la sua condotta, e dichiara giusto l'innocente col rendergli secondo la sua giustizia. |
| 24 | And if thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house; | Quando il tuo popolo Israele sarà sconfitto davanti al nemico perché ha peccato contro di te, se torna a te e loda il tuo nome, se ti prega e ti supplica in questo tempio, |
| 25 | then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers. | ascolta dal cielo e perdona il peccato del tuo popolo Israele, e fallo tornare nel paese che hai dato a lui e ai suoi padri. |
| 26 | When the heavens are shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them: | Quando il cielo sarà chiuso e non vi sarà pioggia perché hanno peccato contro di te, se essi pregano rivolti a questo luogo, se lodano il tuo nome e si convertono dal loro peccato perché li hai afflitti, |
| 27 | then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou teachest them the good way wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance. | tu ascolta dal cielo, perdona il peccato dei tuoi servi e del tuo popolo Israele, insegnando loro la buona strada per la quale devono camminare, e manda la pioggia sulla terra che hai dato in eredità al tuo popolo. |
| 28 | If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting or mildew, locust or caterpillar; if their enemies besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague or whatsoever sickness there be; | Quando nel paese vi sarà carestia o peste, ruggine o carbonchio, invasione di locuste o di bruchi, quando il nemico li assedierà nel loro paese o nelle loro città, quando, scoppierà una calamità o un'epidemia qualsiasi, |
| 29 | what prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, who shall know every man his own plague and his own sorrow, and shall spread forth his hands toward this house: | ogni preghiera, ogni supplica che ti sarà rivolta da qualsiasi individuo o dall'intero tuo popolo Israele, quando ciascuno ha riconosciuto la propria piaga e il proprio dolore e ha steso le sue mani verso questo tempio, |
| 30 | then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling-place and forgive, and render unto every man according to all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of the children of men;) | tu ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora e perdona; e rendi a ciascuno secondo la sua condotta, tu che conosci il cuore di ognuno (tu solo infatti conosci il cuore dei figli degli uomini) |
| 31 | that they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. | affinché essi ti temano e camminino nelle tue vie tutto il tempo che vivranno nel paese che hai dato ai nostri padri. |
| 32 | Moreover concerning the foreigner, that is not of thy people Israel, when he shall come from a far country for thy great name`s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thine outstretched arm; when they shall come and pray toward this house: | Anche lo straniero, che non appartiene al tuo popolo Israele, quando verrà da un paese lontano a motivo del tuo grande nome, della tua mano potente e del tuo braccio disteso, quando verrà a pregarti rivolto a questo tempio, |
| 33 | then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, and do according to all that the foreigner calleth to thee for; that all the peoples of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as doth thy people Israel, and that they may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name. | tu ascolta dal cielo, dal luogo della tua dimora e concedi allo straniero tutto ciò che ti domanda, affinché tutti i popoli della terra conoscano il tuo nome per temerti, come fa il tuo popolo Israele e sappiano che il tuo nome è invocato su questo tempio che io ho costruito, |
| 34 | If thy people go out to battle against their enemies, by whatsoever way thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name; | Quando il tuo popolo uscirà in guerra contro i suoi nemici seguendo la via per cui l'hai mandato, se ti pregano rivolti verso questa città che tu hai scelto e verso il tempio che io ho costruito al tuo nome, |
| 35 | then hear thou from heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. | ascolta dal cielo la loro preghiera e la loro supplica e sostieni la loro causa, |
| 36 | If they sin against thee (for there is no man that sinneth not), and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captive unto a land far off or near; | Quando peccheranno contro di te (perché non c'è alcun uomo che non pecchi) e tu, adirato contro di loro, li abbandonerai in balìa del nemico che li deporterà in un paese lontano o vicino. |
| 37 | yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn again, and make supplication unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done perversely, and have dealt wickedly; | se nel paese in cui sono stati deportati rientrano in sé, se tornano a te e ti supplicano nel paese della loro prigionia dicendo: "Abbiamo peccato, abbiamo agito iniquamente, abbiamo fatto del male", |
| 38 | if they return unto thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captive, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name: | se tornano a te con tutto il loro cuore e con tutta la loro anima nel paese della loro prigionia dove sono stati deportati, e ti pregano rivolti verso il loro paese, il paese che hai dato ai loro padri, verso la città che tu hai scelto e al tempio che ho costruito al tuo nome, |
| 39 | then hear thou from heaven, even from thy dwelling-place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people who have sinned against thee. | ascolta dal cielo, il luogo della tua dimora, la loro preghiera e le loro suppliche, sostieni la loro causa e perdona al tuo popolo che ha peccato contro di te! |
| 40 | Now, O my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and let thine ears be attent, unto the prayer that is made in this place. | Ora, o DIO mio, siano aperti i tuoi occhi e siano attente le tue orecchie alla preghiera fatta in questo luogo! |
| 41 | Now therefore arise, O Jehovah God, into thy resting-place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O Jehovah God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness. | Ora dunque, levati, o Eterno DIO, e vieni al luogo del tuo riposo, tu e l'arca della tua forza. Siano i tuoi sacerdoti, o Eterno DIO, rivestiti di salvezza, e giubilino nel bene i tuoi santi. |
| 42 | O Jehovah God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember [thy] lovingkindnesses to David thy servant. | O Eterno DIO, non respingere la faccia del tuo unto; ricordati dei favori fatti a Davide tuo servo!. |
