| 1 | Roboam donc s'en vint à Jérusalem, et assembla la maison de Juda, et celle de Benjamin, qui furent cent quatre vingt mille hommes d'élite, propres à la guerre, pour combattre contre Israël, et pour réduire le Royaume en sa puissance. | And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin, a hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, that were warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam. |
| 2 | Mais la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Sémahia, homme de Dieu, en disant: | But the word of Jehovah came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, |
| 3 | Parle à Roboam fils de Salomon, Roi de Juda, et à tous ceux d'Israël qui sont en Juda, et en Benjamin, en disant: | Speak unto Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all Israel in Judah and Benjamin, saying, |
| 4 | Ainsi a dit l'Eternel: Vous ne monterez point, et vous ne combattrez point contre vos frères; retournez vous en chacun en sa maison; car ceci a été fait de par moi; et ils obéirent à la parole de l'Eternel, et s'en retournèrent sans aller contre Jéroboam. | Thus saith Jehovah, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren: return every man to his house; for this thing is of me. So they hearkened unto the words of Jehovah, and returned from going against Jeroboam. |
| 5 | Roboam demeura donc à Jérusalem, et bâtit des villes en Juda pour forteresses. | And Rehoboam dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities for defence in Judah. |

| 10 | Tsorah, Ajalon, et Hébron, qui étaient des villes de forteresse en Juda et en Benjamin. | and Zorah, and Aijalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities. |
| 11 | Il fortifia donc ces forteresses, et y mit des Gouverneurs, et des provisions de vivres, d'huile, et de vin; | And he fortified the strongholds, and put captains in them, and stores of victuals, and oil and wine. |
| 12 | Et en chaque ville, des boucliers, et des javelines, et il les fortifia bien. Ainsi Juda et Benjamin lui furent soumis. | And in every city [he put] shields and spears, and made them exceeding strong. And Judah and Benjamin belonged to him. |
| 13 | Et les Sacrificateurs et les Lévites qui étaient dans tout Israël, se joignirent à lui de toutes leurs contrées. | And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel resorted to him out of all their border. |
| 14 | Car les Lévites laissèrent leurs faubourgs et leurs possessions, et vinrent dans la Tribu de Juda, et à Jérusalem: parce que Jéroboam et ses fils les avaient rejetés, afin qu'ils ne servissent plus de Sacrificateurs à l'Eternel. | For the Levites left their suburbs and their possession, and came to Judah and Jerusalem: for Jeroboam and his sons cast them off, that they should not execute the priest`s office unto Jehovah; |
| 15 | Car Jéroboam s'était établi des sacrificateurs pour les hauts lieux, pour les démons, et pour les veaux qu'il avait faits. | and he appointed him priests for the high places, and for the he-goats, and for the calves which he had made. |
| 16 | Et après eux ceux d'entre toutes les Tribus d'Israël qui avaient appliqué leur coeur à chercher l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël, vinrent à Jérusalem, pour sacrifier à l'Eternel le Dieu de leurs pères. | And after them, out of all the tribes of Israel, such as set their hearts to seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, came to Jerusalem to sacrifice unto Jehovah, the God of their fathers. |
| 17 | Et ils fortifièrent le Royaume de Juda, et renforcèrent Roboam fils de Salomon, pendant trois ans, parce qu'on suivit le train de David et de Salomon pendant trois ans. | So they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and made Rehoboam the son of Solomon strong, three years; for they walked three years in the way of David and Solomon. |
| 18 | Or Roboam prit pour femme Mahalath, fille de Jérimoth, fils de David; et Abihaïl fille d'Eliab, fils d'Isaï; | And Rehoboam took him a wife, Mahalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, [and of] Abihail the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse; |
| 19 | Laquelle lui enfanta ces fils, Jéhus, Sémaria, et Zaham. | and she bare him sons: Jeush, and Shemariah, and Zaham. |
| 20 | Et après elle il prit Mahaca, fille d'Absalom, qui lui enfanta Abija, Hattaï, Ziza, et Sélomith. | And after her he took Maacah the daughter of Absalom; and she bare him Abijah, and Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith. |
| 21 | Mais Roboam aima Mahaca, fille d'Absalom, plus que toutes ses autres femmes, et que ses concubines; car il avait pris dix huit femmes et soixante concubines, dont il eut vingt huit fils, et soixante filles. | And Rehoboam loved Maacah the daughter of Absalom above all his wives and his concubines: (for he took eighteen wives, and threescore concubines, and begat twenty and eight sons and threescore daughters.) |
| 22 | Et Roboam établit pour Chef Abija, fils de Mahaca, afin qu'il fût le Chef de ses frères; car son intention était de le faire Roi. | And Rehoboam appointed Abijah the son of Maacah to be chief, [even] the prince among his brethren; for [he was minded] to make him king. |
| 23 | Et il s'avisa prudemment de disperser tous ses enfants par toutes les contrées de Juda et de Benjamin, savoir par toutes les villes fortes, et leur donna abondamment de quoi vivre; et il demanda pour eux beaucoup de femmes. | And he dealt wisely, and dispersed of all his sons throughout all the lands of Judah and Benjamin, unto every fortified city: and he gave them victuals in abundance. And he sought [for them] many wives. |
