| 1 | And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. | L'Eterno disse a Samuele: Fino a quando farai cordoglio per Saul, mentre io l'ho rigettato perché non regni sopra Israele? Riempi il tuo corno di olio e va'; ti mando da Isai il Betlemita, perché mi sono scelto un re tra i suoi figli. |
| 2 | And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD. | Samuele rispose: Come posso andare? Saul lo verrà a sapere e mi ucciderà. L'Eterno disse: Prenderai con te una giovenca e dirai: "Sono venuto per offrire un sacrificio all'Eterno". |
| 3 | And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee. | Inviterai Isai al sacrificio, io ti indicherò ciò che dovrai fare, e tu mi ungerai colui che ti dirò. |
| 4 | And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably? | Così Samuele fece quello che l'Eterno gli aveva detto e andò a Betlemme; gli anziani della città gli andarono incontro tremanti e gli dissero: Vieni pacificamente?. |
| 5 | And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice. | Egli rispose: Vengo pacificamente; sono venuto ad offrire un sacrificio all'Eterno; purificatevi e venite con me al sacrificio. Fece anche purificare Isai e i suoi figli e li invitò al sacrificio. |
| 6 | And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him. | Quando essi giunsero, egli posò lo sguardo su Eliab e disse: Certamente l'unto dell'Eterno è davanti a lui. |
| 7 | But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. | Ma l'Eterno disse a Samuele: Non badare al suo aspetto né all'altezza della sua statura, poiché io l'ho rifiutato, perché l'Eterno non vede come vede l'uomo; l'uomo infatti guarda all'apparenza, ma l'Eterno guarda al cuore. |
| 8 | Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. | Allora Isai chiamò Abinadab e lo fece passare davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse: L'Eterno non si è scelto neppure questo. |
| 9 | Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this. | Poi Isai fece passare Shammah, ma Samuele disse: L'Eterno non si è scelto neppure questo. |
| 10 | Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. | Isai fece così passare sette dei suoi figli davanti a Samuele; ma Samuele disse ad Isai: L'Eterno non ha scelto nessuno di questi. |
| 11 | And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. | Poi Samuele disse ad Isai: Sono tutti qui i tuoi figli?. Egli rispose: Rimane ancora il più giovane che ora si trova a pascolare le pecore. Samuele disse ad Isai: Manda a prenderlo, perché non ci metteremo a tavola prima che sia giunto qui. |
| 12 | And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he. | Allora egli lo mandò a prendere or Davide era rossiccio, con begli occhi e un bell'aspetto. E l'Eterno disse a Samuele: Levati, ungilo, perché è lui. |
| 13 | Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah. | Allora Samuele prese il corno dell'olio e lo unse in mezzo ai suoi fratelli; da quel giorno in poi lo Spirito dell'Eterno investì Davide. Poi Samuele si levò e andò a Ramah. |
| 14 | But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. | Or lo Spirito dell'Eterno si era allontanato da Saul e un cattivo spirito da parte dell'Eterno lo terrorizzava. |
| 15 | And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. | I servi di Saul gli dissero: Ecco, un cattivo spirito da parte di DIO ti turba. |
| 16 | Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. | Il nostro signore comandi dunque ai tuoi servi che ti stanno davanti di cercare un uomo che suoni bene l'arpa; quando poi il cattivo spirito da parte di DIO ti investirà, egli metterà mano all'arpa e tu starai bene. |
| 17 | And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me. | Saul disse ai suoi servitori: Trovatemi un uomo che suoni bene e fatelo venire da me. |
| 18 | Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him. | Allora uno dei domestici prese a dire: Ecco io ho veduto un figlio di Isai, il Betlemita, che sa suonare bene: è un uomo forte e valoroso, abile nel combattere, eloquente nel parlare e di bell'aspetto, e l'Eterno è con lui. |
| 19 | Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep. | Saul dunque inviò dei messaggeri a Isai per dirgli: Mandami tuo figlio Davide, che è col gregge. |
| 20 | And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul. | Allora Isai prese un asino carico di pane, un otre di vino, un capretto e li mandò a Saul per mezzo di Davide suo figlio. |
| 21 | And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer. | Davide arrivò da Saul e rimase al suo servizio; Saul si affezionò grandemente a lui ed egli divenne suo scudiero. |
| 22 | And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight. | Saul mandò quindi a dire a Isai: Ti prego, lascia Davide al mio servizio, perché ha trovato grazia ai miei occhi. |
| 23 | And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him. | Ora, quando il cattivo spirito da parte di DIO investiva Saul, Davide prendeva l'arpa e la suonava con la mano; allora Saul si sentiva risollevato e stava meglio, e il cattivo spirito si allontanava da lui. |
