| 1 | And Samuel said unto Saul, Jehovah sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of Jehovah. | Poi Samuele disse a Saul: L'Eterno mi ha mandato per ungerti re sopra il suo popolo, sopra Israele; ora dunque ascolta le parole dell'Eterno. |
| 2 | Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I have marked that which Amalek did to Israel, how he set himself against him in the way, when he came up out of Egypt. | Così dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Io punirò Amalek per ciò che fece a Israele quando gli si oppose per via, mentre usciva dall'Egitto. |
| 3 | Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass. | Ora va', colpisci Amalek e vota allo sterminio tutto ciò che gli appartiene senza avere alcuna pietà di lui ma uccidi uomini e donne, fanciulli e lattanti, buoi e pecore cammelli e asini. |
| 4 | And Saul summoned the people, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah. | Saul dunque convocò il popolo e lo passò in rassegna a Telaim: duecentomila fanti e diecimila uomini di Giuda. |
| 5 | And Saul came to the city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley. | Saul venne alla città di Amalek e tese un'imboscata nella valle. |
| 6 | And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them; for ye showed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. | Poi Saul disse ai Kenei: Andatevene, ritiratevi, uscite fuori di mezzo agli Amalekiti, affinché non vi distrugga con loro, perché usaste clemenza verso tutti i figli d'Israele quando uscivano dall'Egitto. Così i Kenei si ritirarono di mezzo agli Amalekiti. |
| 7 | And Saul smote the Amalekites, from Havilah as thou goest to Shur, that is before Egypt. | Saul sconfisse gli Amalekiti da Havilah fino a Shur, che è di fronte all'Egitto. |
| 8 | And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword. | Egli prese vivo Agag, re degli Amalekiti, e votò allo sterminio tutto il popolo, passandolo a fil di spada. |
| 9 | But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but everything that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly. | Ma Saul e il popolo risparmiarono Agag e il meglio delle pecore e dei buoi, gli animali grassi, gli agnelli e tutto il meglio, rifiutandosi di votarli allo sterminio; ma votarono allo sterminio tutto ciò che era scadente e di nessun valore. |
| 10 | Then came the word of Jehovah unto Samuel, saying, | Allora la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta a Samuele, dicendo: |
| 11 | It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king; for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And Samuel was wroth; and he cried unto Jehovah all night. | Io mi pento di aver costituito Saul re, perché si è allontanato da me e non ha eseguito i miei ordini. Samuele ne fu rattristato e gridò all'Eterno tutta la notte. |
| 12 | And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning; and it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a monument, and turned, and passed on, and went down to Gilgal. | Al mattino presto Samuele si levò per andare incontro a Saul; ma vennero a dire a Samuele: Saul è andato a Karmel, ed ecco che si è eretto un monumento; poi è tornato passando oltre, ed è sceso a Ghilgal. |
| 13 | And Samuel came to Saul; and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of Jehovah: I have performed the commandment of Jehovah. | Samuele allora si recò da Saul, e Saul gli disse: Benedetto sii tu dall'Eterno! Io ho eseguito l'ordine dell'Eterno. |
| 14 | And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? | Ma Samuele disse: Cos'è dunque questo belar di pecore che mi giunge agli orecchi e questo muggir di buoi che sento?. |
| 15 | And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto Jehovah thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed. | Saul rispose: Questi sono animali presi dagli Amalekiti, perché il popolo ha risparmiato il meglio delle pecore e dei buoi per farne dei sacrifici all'Eterno, il tuo DIO; il resto però l'abbiamo votato allo sterminio. |
| 16 | Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what Jehovah hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on. | Allora Samuele disse a Saul: Basta! Io ti annunzierò ciò che l'Eterno mi ha detto questa notte!. Saul gli disse: Parla. |
| 17 | And Samuel said, Though thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel? And Jehovah anointed thee king over Israel; | Così Samuele disse: Non è forse vero che quando eri piccolo ai tuoi occhi sei diventato capo delle tribù d'Israele, e l'Eterno ti ha unto re d'Israele? |
| 18 | and Jehovah sent thee on a journey, and said, Go, and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed. | L'Eterno ti aveva dato una missione dicendo: "Va', vota allo sterminio quei peccatori degli Amalekiti e combatti contro di loro finché siano sterminati". |
| 19 | Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of Jehovah, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah? | Perché dunque non hai ubbidito alla voce dell'Eterno, ma ti sei gettato sul bottino e hai fatto ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno?. |
| 20 | And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of Jehovah, and have gone the way which Jehovah sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites. | Saul disse a Samuele: Ma io ho ubbidito alla voce dell'Eterno, ho compiuto la missione che l'Eterno mi aveva affidato, ho riportato Agag, re di Amalek e ho votato allo sterminio gli Amalekiti. |
| 21 | But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the devoted things, to sacrifice unto Jehovah thy God in Gilgal. | Il popolo però ha preso le cose migliori che avrebbero dovuto essere sterminate, per farne sacrifici all'Eterno, il tuo DIO, a Ghilgal. |
| 22 | And Samuel said, Hath Jehovah as great delight in burnt-offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. | Samuele disse: Gradisce forse l'Eterno gli olocausti e i sacrifici come l'ubbidire alla voce dell'Eterno? Ecco l'ubbidienza è migliore del sacrificio, e ascoltare attentamente è meglio del grasso dei montoni. |
| 23 | For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as idolatry and teraphim. Because thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, he hath also rejected thee from being king. | Poiché la ribellione è come il peccato di divinazione, e l'ostinatezza è come il culto agli idoli e agli dei domestici. Poiché hai rigettato la parola dell'Eterno anch'egli ti ha rigettato come re. |
| 24 | And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned; for I have transgressed the commandment of Jehovah, and thy words, because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. | Allora Saul disse a Samuele: Ho peccato per aver trasgredito il comando dell'Eterno e le tue parole, perché ho avuto paura del popolo e ho dato ascolto alla sua voce. |
| 25 | Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah. | Ma ora, ti prego, perdona il mio peccato e ritorna con me, perché mi possa prostrare davanti all'Eterno. |
| 26 | And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee; for thou hast rejected the word of Jehovah, and Jehovah hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. | Ma Samuele rispose a Saul. Io non ritornerò con te, perché hai rigettato la parola dell'Eterno, e l'Eterno ha rigettato te, perché tu non sia più re sopra Israele. |
| 27 | And as Samuel turned about to go away, [Saul] laid hold upon the skirt of his robe, and it rent. | Come Samuele si voltava per andarsene, Saul afferrò il lembo del suo mantello, che si strappò. |
| 28 | And Samuel said unto him, Jehovah hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbor of thine, that is better than thou. | Allora Samuele gli disse: L'Eterno oggi ha strappato da te il regno d'Israele e lo ha dato a un altro, che è migliore di te. |
| 29 | And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent; for he is not a man, that he should repent. | La Gloria d'Israele non mentirà e non si pentirà, perché egli non è un uomo a che si pente. |
| 30 | Then he said, I have sinned: yet honor me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship Jehovah thy God. | Allora Saul disse: Ho peccato ma adesso onorami, ti prego, davanti agli anziani del mio popolo e davanti a Israele; ritorna con me, perché mi possa prostrare davanti all'Eterno, il tuo DIO. |
| 31 | So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped Jehovah. | Samuele dunque ritornò con Saul, e Saul si prostrò davanti all'Eterno. |
| 32 | Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him cheerfully. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past. | Poi Samuele disse: Portatemi Agag, re degli Amalekiti. Agag andò da lui di buon umore. Or Agag diceva: Certamente l'amarezza della morte è passata. |
| 33 | And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before Jehovah in Gilgal. | Samuele gli disse: Come la tua spada priva di figli le donne, così tua madre sarà privata del figlio fra le donne. Samuele quindi tagliò a pezzi Agag davanti all'Eterno a Ghilgal. |
| 34 | Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul. | Poi Samuele andò a Ramah, e Saul salì a casa sua, a Ghibeah di Saul. |
| 35 | And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death; for Samuel mourned for Saul: and Jehovah repented that he had made Saul king over Israel. | Samuele non andò più a vedere Saul fino al giorno della sua morte, perché Samuele faceva cordoglio per Saul; e l'Eterno si pentì di aver fatto Saul re d'Israele. |
