| 2 | Saul chose him three thousand men of Israel, whereof two thousand were with Saul in Michmash and in the mount of Beth-el, and a thousand were with Jonathan in Gibeah of Benjamin: and the rest of the people he sent every man to his tent. | Saul si scelse tremila uomini d'Israele: duemila stavano con lui a Mikmash e nella regione montuosa di Bethel, e mille con Gionathan, a Ghibeah di Beniamino; rimandò invece il resto del popolo, ognuno alla sua tenda. |
| 3 | And Jonathan smote the garrison of the Philistines that was in Geba: and the Philistines heard of it. And Saul blew the trumpet throughout all the land, saying, Let the Hebrews hear. | Gionathan sconfisse la guarnigione dei Filistei che stava a Gheba, e i Filistei lo vennero a sapere. Allora Saul fece suonare la tromba per tutto il paese, dicendo: Lo sappiano gli Ebrei!. |
| 4 | And all Israel heard say that Saul had smitten the garrison of the Philistines, and also that Israel was had in abomination with the Philistines. And the people were gathered together after Saul to Gilgal. | E tutto Israele sentì dire: Saul ha sconfitto la guarnigione dei Filistei e Israele è venuto in odio ai Filistei. Così il popolo fu convocato a Ghilgal per seguire Saul. |
| 5 | And the Philistines assembled themselves together to fight with Israel, thirty thousand chariots, and six thousand horsemen, and people as the sand which is on the sea-shore in multitude: and they came up, and encamped in Michmash, eastward of Beth-aven. | Anche i Filistei si radunarono per combattere contro Israele, con trentamila carri, seimila cavalieri e gente numerosa come la sabbia che è sul lido del mare. Salirono dunque e si accamparono a Mikmash, a est di Beth-Aven. |
| 6 | When the men of Israel saw that they were in a strait (for the people were distressed), then the people did hide themselves in caves, and in thickets, and in rocks, and in coverts, and in pits. | Quando gli Israeliti si accorsero di essere in pericolo, (perché il popolo era messo alle strette), si nascosero nelle caverne, nelle macchie, tra le rocce, nelle buche e nelle cisterne. |
| 7 | Now some of the Hebrews had gone over the Jordan to the land of Gad and Gilead; but as for Saul, he was yet in Gilgal, and all the people followed him trembling. | Alcuni Ebrei passarono il Giordano per andare nel paese di Gad e di Galaad. Quanto a Saul, egli era ancora a Ghilgal e tutto il popolo lo seguiva, tremando. |
| 8 | And he tarried seven days, according to the set time that Samuel [had appointed]: but Samuel came not to Gilgal; and the people were scattered from him. | Egli aspettò sette giorni secondo il tempo fissato da Samuele; ma Samuele non giungeva a Ghilgal e il popolo cominciava a disperdersi lontano da lui. |
| 9 | And Saul said, Bring hither the burnt-offering to me, and the peace-offerings. And he offered the burnt-offering. | Allora Saul disse: Portatemi l'olocausto e i sacrifici di ringraziamento. Quindi offerse l'olocausto. |
| 10 | And it came to pass that, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, behold, Samuel came; and Saul went out to meet him, that he might salute him. | Aveva appena finito di offrire l'olocausto, quando arrivò Samuele; e Saul gli uscì incontro per salutarlo. |
| 11 | And Samuel said, What hast thou done? And Saul said, Because I saw that the people were scattered from me, and that thou camest not within the days appointed, and that the Philistines assembled themselves together at Michmash; | Ma Samuele gli disse: Che cosa hai fatto?. | 12 | therefore said I, Now will the Philistines come down upon me to Gilgal, and I have not entreated the favor of Jehovah: I forced myself therefore, and offered the burnt-offering. | "Ora i Filistei mi piomberanno addosso a Ghilgal e io non ho ancora supplicato l'Eterno". Perciò mi sono fatto forza e ho offerto l'olocausto. |
| 13 | And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly; thou hast not kept the commandment of Jehovah thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would Jehovah have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. | Allora Samuele disse a Saul: Tu hai agito stoltamente; non hai osservato il comandamento che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti aveva prescritto. L'Eterno infatti avrebbe stabilito il tuo regno su Israele in perpetuo. |
| 14 | But now thy kingdom shall not continue: Jehovah hath sought him a man after his own heart, and Jehovah hath appointed him to be prince over his people, because thou hast not kept that which Jehovah commanded thee. | Ora invece il tuo regno non durerà. L'Eterno si è cercato un uomo secondo il suo cuore, e l'Eterno lo ha stabilito principe del suo popolo, perché tu non hai osservato ciò che l'Eterno ti aveva comandato. |
| 15 | And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men. | Poi Samuele si levò e salì da Ghilgal a Ghibeah di Beniamino, e Saul passò in rassegna il popolo che si trovava con lui erano circa seicento uomini. |
| 16 | And Saul, and Jonathan his son, and the people that were present with them, abode in Geba of Benjamin: but the Philistines encamped in Michmash. | Or Saul, Gionathan suo figlio e la gente rimasta con loro rimasero a Ghibeah di Beniamino, mentre i Filistei erano accampati a Mikmash. |
| 17 | And the spoilers came out of the camp of the Philistines in three companies: one company turned unto the way that leadeth to Ophrah, unto the land of Shual; | Poi dall'accampamento dei Filistei uscirono dei razziatori divisi in tre schiere: una schiera si diresse sulla via di Ofrah, verso il paese di Shual; |
| 18 | and another company turned the way to Beth-horon; and another company turned the way of the border that looketh down upon the valley of Zeboim toward the wilderness. | un'altra schiera si diresse sulla via di Beth-Horon; la terza schiera si diresse sulla via della frontiera che domina la valle di Tseboim, verso il deserto. |
| 19 | Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel; for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears: | Or in tutto il paese d'Israele non si trovava alcun fabbro, perché i Filistei dicevano: Gli Ebrei non fabbrichino spade o lance. |
| 20 | but all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock; | Così tutti gl'Israeliti scendevano dai Filistei per affilare chi il suo vomero, chi la sua zappa, chi la sua scure, chi la sua vanga. |
| 21 | yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to set the goads. | Il prezzo per l'affilatura era di un pim per le vanghe, per le zappe, per i tridenti, per le scuri e per aggiustare i pungoli. |
| 22 | So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found. | Così, nel giorno della battaglia, non si trovava né spada né lancia in mano a tutta la gente che era con Saul e con Gionathan; ne avevano solamente Saul e Gionathan suo figlio. |
| 23 | And the garrison of the Philistines went out unto the pass of Michmash. | La guarnigione dei Filistei uscì quindi verso il passo di Mikmash. |
