De qui ai-je reçu un présent pour fermer les yeux sur lui ? Je vous le rendrai. » | And now, behold, the king walketh before you; and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my youth unto this day. |
| 3 | Ils répondirent : « Tu ne nous as point fait tort, tu ne nous as point opprimés, et tu n'as rien reçu de la main de personne. » | Here I am: witness against me before Jehovah, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I taken a ransom to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. |
| 4 | Il leur dit : « Yahweh est témoin contre vous, et son oint aussi est témoin, en ce jour, que vous n'avez rien trouvé dans mes mains! » Le peuple répondit : « Il en est témoin. » | And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man`s hand. |
| 5 | Et Samuel dit au peuple : « Oui, Yahweh est témoin, lui qui a établi Moïse et Aaron, et qui a fait monter vos pères du pays d'Egypte. | And he said unto them, Jehovah is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand. And they said, He is witness. |
| 6 | Maintenant, présentez-vous, je veux vous appeler en jugement devant Yahweh au sujet de tous les bienfaits qu'il vous a accordés, à vous et à vos pères. | And Samuel said unto the people, It is Jehovah that appointed Moses and Aaron, and that brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt. |
| 7 | Après que Jacob fut venu en Egypte, vos pères crièrent vers Yahweh, et Yahweh envoya Moïse et Aaron, qui firent sortir vos pères d'Egypte et les établirent dans ce lieu. | Now therefore stand still, that I may plead with you before Jehovah concerning all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which he did to you and to your fathers. |
| 8 | Mais ils oublièrent Yahweh, leur Dieu, et il les livra entre les mains de Sisara chef de l'armée d'Hasor, entre les mains des Philistins et entre les mains du roi de Moab, qui leur firent la guerre. | When Jacob was come into Egypt, and your fathers cried unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sent Moses and Aaron, who brought forth your fathers out of Egypt, and made them to dwell in this place. |
| 9 | Ils crièrent vers Yahweh, en disant : « Nous avons péché, car nous avons abandonné Yahweh et nous avons servi les Baals et les Astartés; délivrez-nous maintenant de la main de nos ennemis, et nous vous servirons. » | But they forgat Jehovah their God; and he sold them into the hand of Sisera, captain of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab; and they fought against them. |
| 10 | Et Yahweh envoya Jérobaal et Badan, et Jephté et Samuel, et il vous délivra de la main de vos ennemis tout autour de vous, et vous avez habité vos demeures en sécurité. | And they cried unto Jehovah, and said, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and have served the Baalim and the Ashtaroth: but now deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we will serve thee. |

Alors que Yahweh, votre Dieu, était votre roi. | And Jehovah sent Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivered you out of the hand of your enemies on every side; and ye dwelt in safety. |
| 12 | Voici donc le roi que vous avez choisi, que vous avez demandé : voici que Yahweh a établi un roi sur vous. | And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay, but a king shall reign over us; when Jehovah your God was your king. |
| 13 | Si vous craignez Yahweh, si vous le servez et obéissez à sa voix, si vous n'êtes point rebelles au commandement de Yahweh et si vous suivez vous et le roi qui règne sur vous, Yahweh votre Dieu, ... | Now therefore behold the king whom ye have chosen, and whom ye have asked for: and, behold, Jehovah hath set a king over you. |
| 14 | Mais si vous n'obéissez pas à la voix de Yahweh et si vous êtes rebelles au commandement de Yahweh la main de Yahweh sera contre vous, comme elle a été contre vos pères. | If ye will fear Jehovah, and serve him, and hearken unto his voice, and not rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, and both ye and also the king that reigneth over you be followers of Jehovah your God, [well]: |
| 15 | Maintenant, restez encore, et voyez cette grande chose que Yahweh va opérer sous vos yeux. | but if ye will not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah, but rebel against the commandment of Jehovah, then will the hand of Jehovah be against you, as it was against your fathers. |
| 16 | N'est-ce pas maintenant la moisson des blés ? Eh bien, je vais invoquer Yahweh, et il enverra des tonnerres et de la pluie; vous saurez alors et vous verrez combien grand est aux yeux de Yahweh le mal que vous avez fait en demandant pour vous un roi. » | Now therefore stand still and see this great thing, which Jehovah will do before your eyes. |
| 17 | Samuel invoqua Yahweh et Yahweh envoya ce même jour des tonnerres et de la pluie; et tout le peuple eut une grande crainte de Yahweh et de Samuel. | Is it not wheat harvest to-day? I will call unto Jehovah, that he may send thunder and rain; and ye shall know and see that your wickedness is great, which ye have done in the sight of Jehovah, in asking you a king. |
| 18 | Tout le peuple dit à Samuel : « Prie pour tes serviteurs Yahweh, ton Dieu, afin que nous ne mourions pas, car nous avons ajouté à tous nos péchés le tort de demander pour nous un roi. » | So Samuel called unto Jehovah; and Jehovah sent thunder and rain that day: and all the people greatly feared Jehovah and Samuel. |
| 19 | Samuel dit au peuple : « Ne craignez point. Vous avez fait tout ce mal, mais ne cessez pas de suivre Yahweh, et servez Yahweh de tout votre coeur. | And all the people said unto Samuel, Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, that we die not; for we have added unto all our sins [this] evil, to ask us a king. |
| 20 | Ne vous en détournez point, car ce serait pour aller à des choses de néant, qui ne vous donneraient ni profit ni délivrance, parce que ce sont des choses de néant. | And Samuel said unto the people, Fear not; ye have indeed done all this evil; yet turn not aside from following Jehovah, but serve Jehovah with all your heart: |
| 21 | Car Yahweh n'abandonnera pas son peuple, à cause de son grand nom; car il a plu à Yahweh de faire de vous son peuple. | and turn ye not aside; for [then would ye go] after vain things which cannot profit nor deliver, for they are vain. |
| 22 | Loin de moi aussi de pécher contre Yahweh, en cessant de prier pour vous! Je vous enseignerai le bon et droit chemin. | For Jehovah will not forsake his people for his great name`s sake, because it hath pleased Jehovah to make you a people unto himself. |
| 23 | Craignez seulement Yahweh, et servez-le en vérité de tout votre coeur; car voyez quelles grandes choses il a faites au milieu de vous! | Moreover as for me, far be it from me that I should sin against Jehovah in ceasing to pray for you: but I will instruct you in the good and the right way. |
| 24 | Mais si vous persévérez à faire le mal, vous périrez, vous et votre roi. » | Only fear Jehovah, and serve him in truth with all your heart; for consider how great things he hath done for you. |
