| 3 | And all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. | Tous les Anciens d'Israël donc vinrent; et les Sacrificateurs portèrent l'Arche. |
| 4 | And they brought up the ark of the LORD, and the tabernacle of the congregation, and all the holy vessels that were in the tabernacle, even those did the priests and the Levites bring up. | Ainsi on transporta l'Arche de l'Eternel, et le Tabernacle d'assignation, et tous les saints vaisseaux qui étaient au Tabernacle; les Sacrificateurs, dis-je, et les Lévites les emportèrent. |
| 5 | And king Solomon, and all the congregation of Israel, that were assembled unto him, were with him before the ark, sacrificing sheep and oxen, that could not be told nor numbered for multitude. | Or le Roi Salomon, et toute l'assemblée d'Israël qui s'était rendue auprès de lui, étaient ensemble devant l'Arche et ils sacrifiaient du gros et du menu bétail en si grand nombre, qu'on ne le pouvait ni nombrer ni compter. |
| 6 | And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the LORD unto his place, into the oracle of the house, to the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims. | Et les Sacrificateurs portèrent l'Arche de l'Alliance de l'Eternel en son lieu, dans l'Oracle de la maison, au lieu Très-saint, sous les ailes des Chérubins. |
| 7 | For the cherubims spread forth their two wings over the place of the ark, and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above. | Car les Chérubins étendaient les ailes sur l'endroit où devait être l'Arche, et les Chérubins couvraient l'Arche et ses barres, par dessus. |
| 8 | And they drew out the staves, that the ends of the staves were seen out in the holy place before the oracle, and they were not seen without: and there they are unto this day. | Et ils retirèrent les barres en dedans, de sorte que les bouts des barres se voyaient du lieu Saint sur le devant de l'Oracle, mais ils ne se voyaient point au dehors; et elles sont demeurées là jusqu'à ce jour. |
| 9 | There was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when the LORD made a covenant with the children of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt. | Il n'y avait rien dans l'Arche que les deux tables de pierre que Moïse y avait mises en Horeb, quand l'Eternel traita alliance avec les enfants d'Israël, lorsqu'ils furent sortis du pays d'Egypte. |
| 10 | And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the LORD, | Or il arriva que comme les Sacrificateurs furent sortis du lieu Saint, une nuée remplit la maison de l'Eternel. |
| 11 | So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of the LORD. | De sorte que les Sacrificateurs ne se pouvaient tenir debout pour faire le service, à cause de la nuée; car la gloire de l'Eternel avait rempli la maison de l'Eternel. |
| 12 | Then spake Solomon, The LORD said that he would dwell in the thick darkness. | Alors Salomon dit: L'Eternel a dit qu'il habiterait dans l'obscurité. |
| 13 | I have surely built thee an house to dwell in, a settled place for thee to abide in for ever. | J'ai achevé, ô Eternel! de bâtir une maison pour ta demeure, un domicile fixe, afin que tu y habites éternellement. |
| 14 | And the king turned his face about, and blessed all the congregation of Israel: (and all the congregation of Israel stood;) | Et le Roi tournant son visage, bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël; car toute l'assemblée d'Israël se tenait là debout. |
| 15 | And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which spake with his mouth unto David my father, and hath with his hand fulfilled it, saying, | Et il dit: Béni soit l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël, qui a parlé de sa propre bouche à David mon père, et qui l'a accompli par sa puissance, et a dit: |
| 16 | Since the day that I brought forth my people Israel out of Egypt, I chose no city out of all the tribes of Israel to build an house, that my name might be therein; but I chose David to be over my people Israel. | Depuis le jour que je retirai mon peuple d'Israël hors d'Egypte, je n'ai choisi aucune ville d'entre toutes les Tribus d'Israël pour y bâtir une maison, afin que mon Nom y fût; mais j'ai choisi David, afin qu'il eût la charge de mon peuple d'Israël. |
| 17 | And it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. | Et David mon père avait au coeur de bâtir une maison au Nom de l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël. |
| 18 | And the LORD said unto David my father, Whereas it was in thine heart to build an house unto my name, thou didst well that it was in thine heart. | Mais l'Eternel dit à David mon père: Quant à ce que tu as eu au coeur de bâtir une maison à mon Nom, tu as bien fait d'avoir eu cela au coeur. |
| 19 | Nevertheless thou shalt not build the house; but thy son that shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house unto my name. | Néanmoins tu ne bâtiras point cette maison, mais ton fils qui sortira de tes reins, sera celui qui bâtira cette maison à mon Nom. |
| 20 | And the LORD hath performed his word that he spake, and I am risen up in the room of David my father, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel. | L'Eternel a donc accompli sa parole, qu'il avait prononcée, et j'ai succédé à David mon père, et je suis assis sur le trône d'Israël, comme l'Eternel en avait parlé; et j'ai bâti cette maison au Nom de l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël. |
| 21 | And I have set there a place for the ark, wherein is the covenant of the LORD, which he made with our fathers, when he brought them out of the land of Egypt. | Et j'ai assigné ici un lieu à l'Arche, dans laquelle est l'alliance de l'Eternel, qu'il traita avec nos pères, quand il les eut tirés hors du pays d'Egypte. |
| 22 | And Solomon stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven: | Ensuite Salomon se tint devant l'autel de l'Eternel en la présence de toute l'assemblée d'Israël, et ayant ses mains étendues vers les cieux, |
| 23 | And he said, LORD God of Israel, there is no God like thee, in heaven above, or on earth beneath, who keepest covenant and mercy with thy servants that walk before thee with all their heart: | Il dit: Ô Eternel Dieu d'Israël! il n'y a point de Dieu semblable à toi dans les cieux en haut, ni sur la terre en bas; tu gardes l'alliance et la gratuité envers tes serviteurs, qui marchent de tout leur coeur devant ta face. |
| 24 | Who hast kept with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him: thou spakest also with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled it with thine hand, as it is this day. | Et tu as tenu à ton serviteur David mon père ce dont tu lui avais parlé; car ce dont tu lui avais parlé de ta bouche, tu l'as accompli de ta main, comme il paraît aujourd'hui. |
| 25 | Therefore now, LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that thou promisedst him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit on the throne of Israel; so that thy children take heed to their way, that they walk before me as thou hast walked before me. | Maintenant donc, ô Eternel Dieu d'Israël! tiens à ton serviteur David mon père, ce dont tu lui as parlé, en disant: Jamais il ne te sera retranché de devant ma face un successeur pour être assis sur le trône d'Israël, pourvu seulement que tes fils prennent garde à leur voie, afin de marcher devant ma face, comme tu y as marché. |
| 26 | And now, O God of Israel, let thy word, I pray thee, be verified, which thou spakest unto thy servant David my father. | Et maintenant, ô Dieu d'Israël! je te prie, que ta parole, laquelle tu as prononcée à ton serviteur David mon père, soit ratifiée. |
| 27 | But will God indeed dwell on the earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have builded? | Mais Dieu habiterait-il effectivement sur la terre? Voilà, les cieux, même les cieux des cieux ne te peuvent contenir; combien moins cette maison que j'ai bâtie. |
| 28 | Yet have thou respect unto the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and to the prayer, which thy servant prayeth before thee to day: | Toutefois, ô Eternel mon Dieu! aie égard à la prière de ton serviteur, et à sa supplication, pour entendre le cri et la prière que ton serviteur te fait aujourd'hui; |
| 29 | That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place. | Qui est, que tes yeux soient ouverts jour et nuit sur cette maison, le lieu dont tu as dit: Mon nom sera là, pour exaucer la prière que ton serviteur fait en ce lieu-ci. |
| 30 | And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, forgive. | Exauce donc la supplication de ton serviteur, et de ton peuple d'Israël quand ils te prieront en ce lieu-ci; exauce -les, dis-je, du lieu de ta demeure, des cieux; exauce, et pardonne. |
| 31 | If any man trespass against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to cause him to swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house: | Quand quelqu'un aura péché contre son prochain, et qu'on lui aura déféré le serment pour le faire jurer, et que le serment aura été fait devant ton autel dans cette maison; |
| 32 | Then hear thou in heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, condemning the wicked, to bring his way upon his head; and justifying the righteous, to give him according to his righteousness. | Exauce -les toi des cieux, et exécute ce que portera l'exécration du serment, et juge tes serviteurs en condamnant le méchant, et lui rendant selon ce qu'il aura fait; et en justifiant le juste, et lui rendant selon sa justice. |
| 33 | When thy people Israel be smitten down before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee, and shall turn again to thee, and confess thy name, and pray, and make supplication unto thee in this house: | Quand ton peuple d'Israël aura été battu par l'ennemi, à cause qu'ils auront péché contre toi, si ensuite ils se retournent vers toi, en réclamant ton nom, et en te faisant des prières et des supplications dans cette maison; |
| 34 | Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest unto their fathers. | Exauce -les, toi, des cieux, et pardonne le péché de ton peuple d'Israël, et ramène-les dans la terre que tu as donnée à leurs pères. |
| 35 | When heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou afflictest them: | Quand les cieux seront resserrés, et qu'il n'y aura point de pluie, à cause que ceux d'Israël auront péché contre toi, s'ils te font prière en ce lieu-ci, et s'ils réclament ton Nom, et s'ils se détournent de leurs péchés, parce que tu les auras affligés; |
| 36 | Then hear thou in heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, that thou teach them the good way wherein they should walk, and give rain upon thy land, which thou hast given to thy people for an inheritance. | Exauce -les, toi, des cieux, et pardonne le péché de tes serviteurs, et de ton peuple d'Israël, lorsque tu leur auras enseigné le bon chemin, par lequel ils doivent marcher, et envoie-leur la pluie sur la terre que tu as donnée à ton peuple pour héritage. |
| 37 | If there be in the land famine, if there be pestilence, blasting, mildew, locust, or if there be caterpiller; if their enemy besiege them in the land of their cities; whatsoever plague, whatsoever sickness there be; | Quand il y aura famine au pays, ou la mortalité; quand il y aura brûlure, nielle, sauterelles, et vermisseaux, même quand les ennemis les assiégeront jusques dans leur propre pays, ou qu'il y aura plaie, ou maladie; |
| 38 | What prayer and supplication soever be made by any man, or by all thy people Israel, which shall know every man the plague of his own heart, and spread forth his hands toward this house: | Quelque prière, et quelque supplication que te fasse quelque homme que ce soit de tout ton peuple d'Israël, selon qu'ils auront connu chacun la plaie de son cœur; et que chacun aura étendu ses mains vers cette maison; |
| 39 | Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men;) | Alors exauce -les, toi, des cieux, du domicile arrêté de ta demeure, et pardonne, et fais, et rends à chacun selon toutes ses voies, parce que tu auras connu son coeur; car tu connais toi-seul le coeur de tous les hommes; |
| 40 | That they may fear thee all the days that they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers. | Afin qu'ils te craignent tout le temps qu'ils vivront sur la terre que tu as donnée à nos pères. |
| 41 | Moreover concerning a stranger, that is not of thy people Israel, but cometh out of a far country for thy name's sake; | Et même lorsque l'étranger qui ne sera pas de ton peuple d'Israël, mais qui sera venu d'un pays éloigné pour l'amour de ton Nom; |
| 42 | (For they shall hear of thy great name, and of thy strong hand, and of thy stretched out arm;) when he shall come and pray toward this house; | (Car on entendra parler de ton Nom, qui est grand, et de ta main forte, et de ton bras étendu;) lors donc qu'il sera venu, et qu'il te priera dans cette maison; |
| 43 | Hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for: that all people of the earth may know thy name, to fear thee, as do thy people Israel; and that they may know that this house, which I have builded, is called by thy name. | Exauce -le, toi, des cieux, du domicile arrêté de ta demeure, et fais selon tout ce pour quoi cet étranger aura crié vers toi; afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent ton Nom pour te craindre, comme ton peuple d'Israël; et pour connaître que ton Nom est réclamé sur cette maison que j'ai bâtie. |
| 44 | If thy people go out to battle against their enemy, whithersoever thou shalt send them, and shall pray unto the LORD toward the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house that I have built for thy name: | Quand ton peuple sera sorti en guerre contre son ennemi, dans le chemin par lequel tu l'auras envoyé, s'ils font prière à l'Eternel en regardant vers cette ville que tu as choisie, et vers cette maison que j'ai bâtie à ton Nom; |
| 45 | Then hear thou in heaven their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause. | Alors exauce des cieux leur prière et leur supplication, et maintiens leur droit. |
| 46 | If they sin against thee, (for there is no man that sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them to the enemy, so that they carry them away captives unto the land of the enemy, far or near; | Quand ils auront péché contre toi, car il n'y a point d'homme qui ne pèche, et que tu seras irrité contr'eux, tellement que tu les auras livrés entre les mains de leurs ennemis, et que ceux qui les auront pris les auront menés captifs en pays ennemi, soit loin, soit près; |
| 47 | Yet if they shall bethink themselves in the land whither they were carried captives, and repent, and make supplication unto thee in the land of them that carried them captives, saying, We have sinned, and have done perversely, we have committed wickedness; | Si au pays où ils auront été menés captifs, ils reviennent à eux-mêmes, et se repentant ils te prient au pays de ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs, en disant: Nous avons péché, nous avons fait iniquité, et nous avons fait méchamment; |
| 48 | And so return unto thee with all their heart, and with all their soul, in the land of their enemies, which led them away captive, and pray unto thee toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, the city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name: | S'ils retournent donc à toi de tout leur coeur et de toute leur âme, dans le pays de leurs ennemis, qui les auront emmenés captifs, et s'ils t'adressent leurs prières, en regardant vers leur pays que tu as donné à leurs pères, vers cette ville que tu as choisie, et vers cette maison que j'ai bâtie à ton Nom; |
| 49 | Then hear thou their prayer and their supplication in heaven thy dwelling place, and maintain their cause, | Alors exauce des cieux, du domicile arrêté de ta demeure, leur prière, et leur supplication, et maintiens leur droit. |
| 50 | And forgive thy people that have sinned against thee, and all their transgressions wherein they have transgressed against thee, and give them compassion before them who carried them captive, that they may have compassion on them: | Et pardonne à ton peuple qui aura péché contre toi, et même pardonne-leur tous les crimes qu'ils auront commis contre toi, et fais que ceux qui les auront emmenés captifs aient pitié d'eux, et leur fassent grâce. |
| 51 | For they be thy people, and thine inheritance, which thou broughtest forth out of Egypt, from the midst of the furnace of iron: | Car ils sont ton peuple et ton héritage, que tu as tiré hors d'Egypte, du milieu d'un fourneau de fer. |
| 52 | That thine eyes may be open unto the supplication of thy servant, and unto the supplication of thy people Israel, to hearken unto them in all that they call for unto thee. | Que tes yeux donc soient ouverts sur la prière de ton serviteur, et sur la supplication de ton peuple d'Israël, pour les exaucer dans tout ce pourquoi ils crieront à toi. |
| 53 | For thou didst separate them from among all the people of the earth, to be thine inheritance, as thou spakest by the hand of Moses thy servant, when thou broughtest our fathers out of Egypt, O LORD God. | Car tu les as mis à part pour toi d'entre tous les peuples de la terre, afin qu'ils fussent ton héritage, comme tu en as parlé par le moyen de Moïse ton serviteur, quand tu retiras nos pères hors d'Egypte, ô Seigneur Eternel! |
| 54 | And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. | Or aussitôt que Salomon eut achevé de faire toute cette prière, et cette supplication à l'Eternel, il se leva de devant l'autel de l'Eternel, et n'étant plus à genoux, mais ayant encore les mains étendues vers les cieux; |
| 55 | And he stood, and blessed all the congregation of Israel with a loud voice, saying, | Il se tint debout, et bénit toute l'assemblée d'Israël à haute voix, en disant: |
| 56 | Blessed be the LORD, that hath given rest unto his people Israel, according to all that he promised: there hath not failed one word of all his good promise, which he promised by the hand of Moses his servant. | Béni soit l'Eternel, qui a donné du repos à son peuple d'Israël, comme il en avait parlé; il n'est pas tombé à terre un seul mot de toutes les bonnes paroles qu'il avait prononcées par le moyen de Moïse son serviteur. |
| 57 | The LORD our God be with us, as he was with our fathers: let him not leave us, nor forsake us: | Que l'Eternel notre Dieu soit avec nous, comme il a été avec nos pères; qu'il ne nous abandonne point, et qu'il ne nous délaisse point. |
| 58 | That he may incline our hearts unto him, to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, which he commanded our fathers. | Mais qu'il incline notre coeur vers lui, afin que nous marchions en toutes ses voies, et que nous gardions ses commandements, ses statuts, et ses ordonnances qu'il a prescrites à nos pères; |
| 59 | And let these my words, wherewith I have made supplication before the LORD, be nigh unto the LORD our God day and night, that he maintain the cause of his servant, and the cause of his people Israel at all times, as the matter shall require: | Et que mes paroles, par lesquelles j'ai fait supplication à l'Eternel, soient présentes devant l'Eternel notre Dieu jour et nuit; afin qu'il maintienne le droit de son serviteur, et le droit de son peuple d'Israël, selon qu'il en aura besoin chaque jour. |
| 60 | That all the people of the earth may know that the LORD is God, and that there is none else. | Afin que tous les peuples de la terre connaissent que c'est l'Eternel qui est Dieu, et qu'il n'y en a point d'autre; |
| 61 | Let your heart therefore be perfect with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day. | Et afin que votre coeur soit pur envers l'Eternel votre Dieu, pour marcher dans ses statuts, et pour garder ses commandements, comme aujourd'hui. |
| 62 | And the king, and all Israel with him, offered sacrifice before the LORD. | Et le Roi, et tout Israël avec lui, sacrifièrent des sacrifices devant l'Eternel. |
| 63 | And Solomon offered a sacrifice of peace offerings, which he offered unto the LORD, two and twenty thousand oxen, and an hundred and twenty thousand sheep. So the king and all the children of Israel dedicated the house of the LORD. | Et Salomon offrit un sacrifice de prospérités, qu'il sacrifia à l'Eternel, savoir, vingt et deux mille boeufs, et six vingt mille brebis. Ainsi le Roi et tous les enfants d'Israël dédièrent la maison de l'Eternel. |
| 64 | The same day did the king hallow the middle of the court that was before the house of the LORD: for there he offered burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings: because the brasen altar that was before the LORD was too little to receive the burnt offerings, and meat offerings, and the fat of the peace offerings. | En ce jour-là le Roi consacra le milieu du parvis, qui était devant la maison de l'Eternel; car il offrit là les holocaustes, et les gâteaux, et les graisses des sacrifices de prospérités, parce que l'autel d'airain qui était devant l'Eternel, était trop petit pour contenir les holocaustes, et les gâteaux, et les graisses des sacrifices de prospérités. |
| 65 | And at that time Solomon held a feast, and all Israel with him, a great congregation, from the entering in of Hamath unto the river of Egypt, before the LORD our God, seven days and seven days, even fourteen days. | Et en ce temps-là Salomon célébra une fête solennelle; et avec lui tout Israël qui était une grande assemblée, venue depuis où l'on entre en Hamath jusqu'au torrent d'Egypte, devant l'Eternel notre Dieu, et cela dura sept jours, et sept autres jours, ce qui fut quatorze jours. |
| 66 | On the eighth day he sent the people away: and they blessed the king, and went unto their tents joyful and glad of heart for all the goodness that the LORD had done for David his servant, and for Israel his people. | Et au huitième jour il renvoya le peuple, qui bénit le Roi; puis ils s'en allèrent dans leurs tentes, en se réjouissant, et ayant le coeur plein de joie à cause de tout le bien que l'Eternel avait fait à David son serviteur, et à Israël son peuple. |
