| 1 | And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month Zif, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the LORD. | Or il arriva qu'en l'année quatre cent quatre-vingt, après que les enfants d'Israël furent sortis du pays d'Egypte, la quatrième année du règne de Salomon sur Israël, au mois de Zif, qui est le second mois, il bâtit une maison à l'Eternel. |
| 2 | And the house which king Solomon built for the LORD, the length thereof was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits, and the height thereof thirty cubits. | Et la maison que le Roi Salomon bâtit à l'Eternel avait soixante coudées de long, et vingt de large, et trente coudées de haut. |
| 3 | And the porch before the temple of the house, twenty cubits was the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house; and ten cubits was the breadth thereof before the house. | Le porche qui était devant le Temple de la maison, avait vingt coudées de long, qui répondait à la largeur de la maison, et il avait dix coudées de large sur le devant de la maison. |
| 4 | And for the house he made windows of narrow lights. | Il fit aussi des fenêtres à la maison, larges par dedans, et rétrécies par dehors. |
| 5 | And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about: | Et joignant la muraille de la maison il bâtit des appentis de chambres l'une sur l'autre tout alentour, appuyés sur les murailles de la maison, tout autour du Temple, et de l'Oracle, ainsi il fit des chambres tout à l'entour. |
| 6 | The nethermost chamber was five cubits broad, and the middle was six cubits broad, and the third was seven cubits broad: for without in the wall of the house he made narrowed rests round about, that the beams should not be fastened in the walls of the house. | La largeur de l'appentis d'en bas était de cinq coudées, et la largeur de celui du milieu était de six coudées, et la largeur du troisième était de sept coudées; car il avait fait des rétrécissements en la maison par dehors, afin que la charpenterie des appentis n'entrât pas dans les murailles de la maison. |
| 7 | And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building. | Or en bâtissant la maison on la bâtit de pierres amenées toutes telles qu'elles devaient être, de sorte qu'en bâtissant la maison on n'entendit ni marteau, ni hache, ni aucun outil de fer. |
| 8 | The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third. | L'entrée des chambres du milieu était au côté droit de la maison, et on montait par une vis aux chambres du milieu; et de celles du milieu à celles du troisième étage. |
| 9 | So he built the house, and finished it; and covered the house with beams and boards of cedar. | Il bâtit donc la maison, et l'acheva, et il couvrit la maison de lambris en voûte, et de poutres de cèdre. |
| 10 | And then he built chambers against all the house, five cubits high: and they rested on the house with timber of cedar. | Et il bâtit les appentis joignant toute la maison, chacun de cinq coudées de haut, et ils tenaient à la maison par le moyen des bois de cèdre. |
| 11 | And the word of the LORD came to Solomon, saying, | Alors la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Salomon, en disant: |
| 12 | Concerning this house which thou art in building, if thou wilt walk in my statutes, and execute my judgments, and keep all my commandments to walk in them; then will I perform my word with thee, which I spake unto David thy father: | Quant à cette maison que tu bâtis, si tu marches dans mes statuts, et si tu fais mes ordonnances, et que tu gardes tous mes commandements, en y marchant, je ratifierai en ta faveur la parole que j'ai dite à David ton père. |
| 13 | And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake my people Israel. | Et j'habiterai au milieu des enfants d'Israël, et je n'abandonnerai point mon peuple d'Israël. |
| 14 | So Solomon built the house, and finished it. | Ainsi Salomon bâtit la maison, et l'acheva. |
| 15 | And he built the walls of the house within with boards of cedar, both the floor of the house, and the walls of the ceiling: and he covered them on the inside with wood, and covered the floor of the house with planks of fir. | Il lambrissa d'ais de cèdre, les murailles de la maison par dedans, depuis le sol de la maison jusqu'à la voûte lambrissée; il les couvrit de bois par dedans, et il couvrit le sol de la maison d'ais de sapin. |
| 16 | And he built twenty cubits on the sides of the house, both the floor and the walls with boards of cedar: he even built them for it within, even for the oracle, even for the most holy place. | Il lambrissa aussi l'espace de vingt coudées d'ais de cèdre au fond de la maison, depuis le sol jusqu'au haut des murailles, et il lambrissa cet espace au dedans pour être l'Oracle, c'est-à-dire, le lieu Très-saint. |
| 17 | And the house, that is, the temple before it, was forty cubits long. | Mais la maison, savoir le Temple de devant, était de quarante coudées. |
| 18 | And the cedar of the house within was carved with knops and open flowers: all was cedar; there was no stone seen. | Et les ais de cèdre qui étaient pour le dedans de la maison, étaient entaillés de boutons de fleurs épanouies, relevées en bosse; tout le dedans était de cèdre, on n'y voyait pas une pierre. |
| 19 | And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the LORD. | Il disposa aussi l'Oracle au dedans de la maison vers le fond, pour y mettre l'Arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel. |
| 20 | And the oracle in the forepart was twenty cubits in length, and twenty cubits in breadth, and twenty cubits in the height thereof: and he overlaid it with pure gold; and so covered the altar which was of cedar. | Et l'Oracle avait par devant vingt coudées de long, et vingt coudées de large, et vingt coudées de haut, et on le couvrit de fin or; on en couvrit aussi l'autel, fait d'ais de cèdre. |
| 21 | So Solomon overlaid the house within with pure gold: and he made a partition by the chains of gold before the oracle; and he overlaid it with gold. | Salomon donc couvrit de fin or la maison, depuis l'entredeux jusqu'au fond; et fit passer un voile avec des chaînes d'or au devant de l'Oracle, lequel il couvrit d'or. |
| 22 | And the whole house he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the house: also the whole altar that was by the oracle he overlaid with gold. | Ainsi il couvrit d'or toute la maison entièrement. Il couvrit aussi d'or tout l'autel qui était devant l'Oracle. |
| 23 | And within the oracle he made two cherubims of olive tree, each ten cubits high. | Et il fit dans l'Oracle deux Chérubins de bois d'olivier, qui avaient chacun dix coudées de haut. |
| 24 | And five cubits was the one wing of the cherub, and five cubits the other wing of the cherub: from the uttermost part of the one wing unto the uttermost part of the other were ten cubits. | L'une des ailes de l'un des Chérubins avait cinq coudées, et l'autre aile du même Chérubin avait aussi cinq coudées; depuis le bout d'une aile jusqu'au bout de l'autre aile il y avait dix coudées. |
| 25 | And the other cherub was ten cubits: both the cherubims were of one measure and one size. | L'autre Chérubin était aussi de dix coudées; car les deux Chérubins étaient d'une même mesure, et taillés l'un comme l'autre. |
| 26 | The height of the one cherub was ten cubits, and so was it of the other cherub. | La hauteur d'un Chérubin était de dix coudées, de même que celle de l'autre Chérubin. |
| 27 | And he set the cherubims within the inner house: and they stretched forth the wings of the cherubims, so that the wing of the one touched the one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall; and their wings touched one another in the midst of the house. | Et il mit les Chérubins au dedans de la maison vers le fond, et on étendit les ailes des Chérubins, en sorte que l'aile de l'un touchait à une muraille, et l'aile de l'autre Chérubin touchait à l'autre muraille; et leurs autres ailes se venaient joindre au milieu de la maison, et l'une des ailes touchait l'autre. |
| 28 | And he overlaid the cherubims with gold. | Et il couvrit d'or les Chérubins. |
| 29 | And he carved all the walls of the house round about with carved figures of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, within and without. | Et il entailla toutes les murailles de la maison tout autour de sculptures bien profondes de Chérubins, et de palmes, et de boutons de fleurs épanouies, tant en la partie du dedans, qu'en celle du dehors. |
| 30 | And the floors of the house he overlaid with gold, within and without. | Il couvrit aussi d'or le sol de la maison, tant en la partie qui tirait vers le fond, qu'en celle du dehors. |
| 31 | And for the entering of the oracle he made doors of olive tree: the lintel and side posts were a fifth part of the wall. | Et à l'entrée de l'Oracle il fit une porte à deux battants de bois d'olivier, dont les linteaux et les poteaux étaient de cinq membreures. |
| 32 | The two doors also were of olive tree; and he carved upon them carvings of cherubims and palm trees and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold, and spread gold upon the cherubims, and upon the palm trees. | Il fit donc une porte à deux battants de bois d'olivier, et entailla sur elle des moulures de Chérubins, de palmes, et de boutons de fleurs épanouies, et les couvrit d'or, étendant l'or sur les Chérubins et sur les palmes. |
| 33 | So also made he for the door of the temple posts of olive tree, a fourth part of the wall. | Il fit aussi à l'entrée du Temple des poteaux de bois d'olivier, de quatre membreures; |
| 34 | And the two doors were of fir tree: the two leaves of the one door were folding, and the two leaves of the other door were folding. | Et une porte à deux battants de bois de sapin; les deux pièces d'un des battants étaient brisées; et les deux pièces de l'autre battant étaient aussi brisées. |
| 35 | And he carved thereon cherubims and palm trees and open flowers: and covered them with gold fitted upon the carved work. | Et il y entailla des Chérubins, des palmes, et des boutons de fleurs épanouies, et les couvrit d'or, proprement posé sur les entailleures. |
| 36 | And he built the inner court with three rows of hewed stone, and a row of cedar beams. | Il bâtit aussi le parvis de dedans de trois rangées de pierres de taille, et d'une rangée de poutres de cèdre. |
| 37 | In the fourth year was the foundation of the house of the LORD laid, in the month Zif: | La quatrième année, au mois de Zif, les fondements de la maison de l'Eternel furent posés. |
| 38 | And in the eleventh year, in the month Bul, which is the eighth month, was the house finished throughout all the parts thereof, and according to all the fashion of it. So was he seven years in building it. | Et la onzième année, au mois de Bul, qui est le huitième mois, la maison fut achevée avec toutes ses appartenances et ses ordonnances; ainsi il mit sept ans à la bâtir. |
