| 6 | Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine? | Voyons, frères, ce quelle utilité vous serais-je, si je venais à vous parlant en langues, et si je ne vous parle pas par révélation, ou par science, ou par prophétie, ou par doctrine ? |
| 7 | And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped? | Si les objets inanimés qui rendent un son, comme une flûte ou une harpe, ne rendent pas des sons distincts, comment connaîtra-t-on ce qui est joué sur la flûte ou sur la harpe ? |
| 8 | For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? | Et si la trompette rend un son confus, qui se préparera au combat ? |
| 9 | So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air. | De même vous, si vous ne faites pas entendre avec la langue une parole distincte, comment saura-t-on ce que vous dites ? Vous parlerez en l'air. |
| 10 | There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification. | Quelque nombreuses que puissent être dans le monde les diverses langues, il n'en est aucune qui consiste en sons inintelligibles. |
| 11 | Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. | Si donc j'ignore la valeur du son, je serai un barbare pour celui qui parle, et celui qui parle sera un barbare pour moi. |
| 12 | Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. | De même vous aussi, puisque vous aspirez aux dons spirituels, que ce soit pour l'édification de l'Eglise que vous cherchiez à en avoir abondamment. |
| 13 | Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret. | C'est pourquoi, que celui qui parle en langue prie pour obtenir le don d'interpréter. |
| 14 | For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful. | Car si je prie en langue, mon esprit est en prière, mais mon intelligence demeure sans fruit. |
| 15 | What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. | Que faire donc ? | 19 | Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue. | mais, dans l'Eglise, j'aime mieux dire cinq paroles avec mon intelligence, afin d'instruire aussi les autres, que dix mille paroles en langue. |
| 20 | Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men. | Frères, ne soyez pas des enfants sous le rapport du jugement; mais faites-vous enfants sous le rapport de la malice, et, pour le jugement, soyez des hommes faits. |
| 21 | In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord. | Il est écrit dans la Loi : "C'est par des hommes d'une autre langue et par des lèvres étrangères que je parlerai à ce peuple, et même ainsi ils ne m'écouteront pas, dit le Seigneur." |
| 22 | Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe. | C'est donc que les langues sont un signe, non pour les croyants, mais pour les infidèles; la prophétie, au contraire, est un signe, non pour les infidèles, mais pour les croyants. |
| 23 | If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad? | Si donc, l'Eglise entière se trouvant réunie en assemblée, tous parlent en langues, et qu'il survienne des hommes non initiés ou des infidèles, ne diront-ils pas que vous êtes fous ? |
| 24 | But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all: | Mais si tous prophétisent, et qu'il survienne un infidèle ou un homme non initié, il est convaincu par tous, il est jugé par tous, |
| 25 | And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth. | le secrets de son coeur sont dévoilés, de telle sorte que, tombant sur sa face, il adorera Dieu, et publiera que Dieu est vraiment au milieu de vous. |
| 26 | How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying. | Que faire donc, mes frères ? Lorsque vous vous assemblez, tel d'entre vous a un cantique, tel une instruction, tel une révélation, tel un discours en langue, tel une interprétation, que tout se passe de manière à édifier. |

| 31 | For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. | Car vous pouvez tous prophétiser l'un après l'autre, afin que tous soient instruits et que tous soient exhortés. |
| 32 | And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. | Or les esprits des prophètes sont soumis aux prophètes, |
| 33 | For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints. | car Dieu n'est pas un Dieu de désordre, mais de paix. |
| 34 | Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law. | Comme cela a eu lieu dans toutes les Eglises des saints, que vos femmes se taisent dans les assemblées, car elles n'ont pas mission de parler; mais qu'elles soient soumises, comme le dit aussi la Loi. |
| 35 | And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. | Si elles veulent s'instruire sur quelque point, qu'elles interrogent leurs maris à la maison; car il est malséant à une femme de parler dans une assemblée. |
| 36 | What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only? | Est-ce de chez vous que la parole de Dieu est sortie ? ou est-ce à vous seuls qu'elle est parvenue ? |
| 37 | If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. | Si quelqu'un croit être prophète ou riche en dons spirituels, qu'il reconnaisse que ces choses que je vous ai écrites sont des commandements du Seigneur. |
| 38 | But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. | Et s'il veut l'ignorer, qu'il l'ignore. |
| 39 | Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. | Ainsi dons, mes frères, aspirez au don de prophétie, et n'empêchez pas de parler en langue. |
| 40 | Let all things be done decently and in order. | Mais que tout se fasse avec bienséance et avec ordre. |
