Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;Car je ne veux pas vous laisser ignorer, frères, que nos pères ont tous été sous la nuée, qu'ils ont tous traversé la mer, For I would not, brethren, have you ignorant, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;et qu'ils ont tous été baptisés en Moïse dans la nuée et dans la mer;and were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
And did all eat the same spiritual meat;qu'ils ont tous mangé le même aliment spirituel, and did all eat the same spiritual food;
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.et qu'ils ont tous bu le même breuvage spirituel, car ils buvaient à un rocher spirituel qui les accompagnait, et ce rocher était le Christ.and did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of a spiritual rock that followed them: and the rock was Christ.
But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Howbeit with most of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted. Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.et que vous ne deveniez pas idolâtres, comme quelques-uns d'entre eux, selon qu'il est écrit : "Le peuple s'assit pour manger et pour boire; puis il se leva pour se divertir."Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.
Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand. Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. Neither let us make trial of the Lord, as some of them made trial, and perished by the serpents.
Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer. Neither murmur ye, as some of them murmured, and perished by the destroyer.
Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. Now these things happened unto them by way of example; and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages are come.
Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.Aucune tentation ne vous est survenue, qui n'ait été humaine; et Dieu, qui est fidèle, ne permettra pas que vous soyez tentés au delà de vos forces; mais, avec la tentation, il ménagera aussi une heureuse issue en vous donnant le pouvoir de la supporter.There hath no temptation taken you but such as man can bear: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation make also the way of escape, that ye may be able to endure it.
Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.C'est pourquoi, mes bien-aimés, fuyez l'idolâtrie.Wherefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say. I speak as to wise men; judge ye what I say.
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?
For we being many are one bread, and one body: for we are all partakers of that one bread.Puisqu'il y a un seul pain, nous formons un seul corps, tout en étant plusieurs; car nous participons tous à un même pain.seeing that we, who are many, are one bread, one body: for we are all partake of the one bread.
Behold Israel after the flesh: are not they which eat of the sacrifices partakers of the altar?Voyez Israël selon la chair : ceux qui mangent les victimes ne participent-ils pas à l'autel ?Behold Israel after the flesh: have not they that eat the sacrifices communion with the altar?
What say I then? that the idol is any thing, or that which is offered in sacrifice to idols is any thing? What say I then? that a thing sacrificed to idols is anything, or that an idol is anything?
But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to devils, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils. But [I say], that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to demons, and not to God: and I would not that ye should have communion with demons.
Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of demons: ye cannot partake of the table of the Lord, and of the table of demons.
Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?Voulons-nous provoquer la jalousie du Seigneur ? Sommes-nous plus forts que lui ?Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?
All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.
Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth. Let no man seek his own, but [each] his neighbor`s [good].
Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, that eat, asking no question for conscience sake:Mangez de tout ce qui se vend au marché, sans faire aucune question par motif de conscience;Whatsoever is sold in the shambles, eat, asking no question for conscience` sake,
For the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof.car "la terre est au Seigneur, et tout ce qu'elle renferme."for the earth is the Lord`s, and the fulness thereof.
If any of them that believe not bid you to a feast, and ye be disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience sake. If one of them that believe not biddeth you [to a feast], and ye are disposed to go; whatsoever is set before you, eat, asking no question for conscience` sake.
But if any man say unto you, This is offered in sacrifice unto idols, eat not for his sake that shewed it, and for conscience sake: for the earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof:Mais si quelqu'un vous dit : Ceci a été offert en sacrifice [aux idoles], n'en mangez pas, à cause de celui qui vous a donné ce renseignement et à cause de la conscience.But if any man say unto you, This hath been offered in sacrifice, eat not, for his sake that showed it, and for conscience sake:
Conscience, I say, not thine own, but of the other: for why is my liberty judged of another man's conscience? I say, not thine own, but the other`s; for why is my liberty judged by another conscience?
For if I by grace be a partaker, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks? If I partake with thankfulness, why am I evil spoken of for that for which I give thanks?
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.Soit donc que vous mangiez, soit que vous buviez, ou quelque autre chose que vous fassiez, faites tout pour la gloire de Dieu.Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:Ne soyez en scandale ni aux Juifs, ni aux Grecs, ni à l'Eglise de Dieu.Give no occasions of stumbling, either to Jews, or to Greeks, or to the church of God:
Even as I please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the profit of many, that they may be saved.C'est ainsi que moi-même je m'efforce en toutes choses de complaire à tous, ne cherchant pas mon propre avantage, mais celui du plus grand nombre, afin qu'ils soient sauvés.even as I also please all men in all things, not seeking mine own profit, but the [profit] of the many, that they may be saved.
