| 3 | And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord`s servants? why doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of guilt unto Israel? | Joab rispose: L'Eterno moltiplichi il suo popolo cento volte tanto. Ma, o re mio signore, non sono forse tutti servi del mio signore? Perché il mio signore richiede questo? Perché rendere Israele colpevole?. |
| 4 | Nevertheless the king`s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. | Ma la richiesta del re prevalse contro Joab. Perciò Joab partì, percorse tutto Israele e tornò quindi a Gerusalemme. |
| 5 | And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. | Joab consegnò a Davide il numero del censimento del popolo: in tutto Israele c'erano unmilionecentomila uomini atti a maneggiare la spada, e in Giuda quattrocentosettantamila uomini atti a maneggiare la spada. |
| 6 | But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them; for the king`s word was abominable to Joab. | Ma nel censimento di questi Joab non incluse Levi e Beniamino, perché la richiesta del re era per lui abominevole. |
| 7 | And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. | Questa cosa dispiacque a DIO, perciò colpì Israele. |
| 8 | And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing: but now, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. | Così Davide disse a DIO: Ho gravemente peccato facendo questa cosa; ma ora, ti prego, rimuovi l'iniquità del tuo servo, perché ho agito con grande stoltezza. |
| 9 | And Jehovah spake unto Gad, David`s seer, saying, | Allora l'Eterno parlò a Gad, il veggente di Davide, dicendo: |
| 10 | Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. | Va' a dire a Davide: "Così dice l'Eterno: lo ti propongo tre cose: scegliti una di queste, e io la eseguirò per te". |
| 11 | So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Take which thou wilt: | Gad andò da Davide e gli disse: Così dice l'Eterno: Scegliti |
| 12 | either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before thy foes, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me. | o tre anni di carestia, oppure tre mesi di distruzione davanti ai tuoi avversari, durante i quali la spada dei tuoi nemici ti raggiungerà, oppure tre giorni di spada dell'Eterno, ossia la peste nel paese, durante i quali l'angelo, dell'Eterno porterà la distruzione in tutto il territorio d'Israele. Ora fammi sapere la risposta che devo riferire a colui che mi ha mandato. |
| 13 | And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah; for very great are his mercies: and let me not fall into the hand of man. | Davide disse a Gad: Io sono in una grande angoscia! Deh, che io cada nelle mani dell'Eterno, perché le sue compassioni sono grandissime, ma che non cada nelle mani degli uomini!. L'erezione dell'altare e l'offerta dei sacrifici da parte di Davide pone fine alla calamità |
| 14 | So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. | Così l'Eterno mandò la peste in Israele, e morirono settantamila Israeliti. |
| 15 | And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. | DIO mandò pure un angelo a Gerusalemme per distruggerla; ma, mentre egli si apprestava a distruggere, l'Eterno volse lo sguardo, si pentì della calamità inflitta e disse all'angelo che distruggeva: Ora basta! Trattieni la tua mano!. L'angelo dell'Eterno stava in piedi presso l'aia di Ornan, il Gebuseo. |
| 16 | And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. | Davide, alzati gli occhi, vide l'angelo dell'Eterno che stava fra terra e cielo con in mano una spada sguainata, tesa sopra Gerusalemme. Allora Davide e gli anziani, vestiti di sacco, caddero con la faccia a terra. |
| 17 | And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, O Jehovah my God, be against me, and against my father`s house; but not against thy people, that they should be plagued. | Davide disse a DIO: Non sono forse stato io a ordinare il censimento del popolo? Sono stato io a peccare e a fare il male, ma costoro, il gregge, che cosa hanno fatto? Ti prego, o Eterno, DIO mio, si volga la tua mano contro di me e contro la casa di mio padre, ma non colpisca il tuo popolo con questa calamità. |
| 18 | Then the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. | Allora l'angelo dell'Eterno ordinò a Gad di dire a Davide che Davide salisse ad erigere un altare, all'Eterno nell'aia di Ornan, il Gebuseo. |
| 19 | And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of Jehovah. | Così Davide salì secondo la parola che Gad aveva pronunziato nel nome dell'Eterno. |
| 20 | And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. | Ornan si voltò e vide l'angelo; perciò i suoi quattro figli che erano con lui si nascosero, ma Ornan continuò a battere il grano. |
| 21 | And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. | Quando Davide giunse presso Ornan, Ornan guardò e riconobbe Davide; uscì quindi dall'aia e si prostrò davanti a Davide con la faccia a terra. |
| 22 | Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto Jehovah: for the full price shalt thou give it me, that the plague may be stayed from the people. | Allora Davide disse a Ornan: Cedimi l'area dell'aia, perché vi costruisca un altare all'Eterno; cedimelo per tutto il suo valore, affinché la calamità cessi di infierire sul popolo. |
| 23 | And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give [thee] the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all. | Ornan disse a Davide: Prenditelo, e Il re, mio signore, faccia ciò che meglio gli pare; ecco, lo ti do anche i buoi per gli olocausti, gli attrezzi da trebbiare per legna e il grano per l'oblazione di cibo, ti do tutto. |
| 24 | And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost. | Ma il re Davide disse a Ornan: No! Io lo voglio acquistare per l'intero suo valore, perché non prenderò per l'Eterno ciò che appartiene a te e non offrirò un olocausto che non mi costi nulla. |
| 25 | So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. | Così Davide diede a Ornan come prezzo del terreno il peso di seicento sicli, d'oro. |
| 26 | And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering. | Quindi Davide vi costruì un altare all'Eterno, offrì olocausti e sacrifici di ringraziamento e invocò l'Eterno, che gli rispose con il fuoco, che discese dal cielo sull'altare dell'olocausto. |
| 27 | And Jehovah commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof. | Allora l'Eterno comandò all'angelo, di rimettere la sua spada nel fodero. |
| 28 | At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. | In quel tempo Davide, vedendo che l'Eterno lo aveva esaudito nell'aia d'Ornan, il Gebuseo, vi offrì dei sacrifici. |
| 29 | For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon. | Infatti il tabernacolo dell'Eterno che Mosè aveva costruito nel deserto e l'altare degli olocausti si trovavano allora sull'alto luogo di Gabaon, |
| 30 | But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah. | Ma Davide non poteva andare davanti a quell'altare a consultare DIO, perché si era spaventato davanti alla spada dell'angelo dell'Eterno. |
