| 3 | Joab répondit : "Que Yahweh ajoute à son peuple cent fois ce qu'il y en a! O roi, monseigneur, ne sont-ils pas tous esclaves de mon seigneur ? Pourquoi donc mon seigneur demande-t-il cela ? Pourquoi faire venir le péché sur Israël ?" | And Joab said, Jehovah make his people a hundred times as many as they are: but, my lord the king, are they not all my lord`s servants? why doth my lord require this thing? why will he be a cause of guilt unto Israel? |
| 4 | Mais la parole du roi prévalut contre Joab. Joab partit et parcourut tout Israël, et il revint à Jérusalem. | Nevertheless the king`s word prevailed against Joab. Wherefore Joab departed, and went throughout all Israel, and came to Jerusalem. |
| 5 | Et Joab remit à David le rôle du dénombrement du peuple : il y avait dans tout Israël onze cent mille hommes tirant l'épée, et en Juda quatre cent soixante-dix mille hommes tirant l'épée. | And Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and a hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword. |
| 6 | Il ne fit pas le dénombrement de Lévi et de Benjamin au milieu d'eux, car l'ordre du roi répugnait à Joab. | But Levi and Benjamin counted he not among them; for the king`s word was abominable to Joab. |
| 7 | Dieu vit de mauvais oeil cette affaire, et il frappa Israël. | And God was displeased with this thing; therefore he smote Israel. |
| 8 | Et David dit à Dieu "J'ai commis un grand péché en faisant cela. Maintenant, ôtez, je vous prie, l'iniquité de votre serviteur, car j'ai tout à fait agi en insensé." | And David said unto God, I have sinned greatly, in that I have done this thing: but now, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly. |

| 10 | "Va et parle à David en ces termes : Ainsi parle Yahweh : Je pose devant toi trois choses; choisis-en une, et je te la ferai." | Go and speak unto David, saying, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee. |
| 11 | Gad vint vers David et lui dit : "Ainsi parle Yahweh : Choisis, | So Gad came to David, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, Take which thou wilt: |
| 12 | ou trois années de famine, ou trois mois durant lesquels tu seras emporté devant tes adversaires et atteint par le glaive de tes ennemis, ou trois jours durant lesquels le glaive de Yahweh et la peste seront dans le pays, et l'ange de Yahweh opérera la destruction dans tout le territoire d'Israël. Maintenant, vois ce que je dois répondre à celui qui m'envoie." | either three years of famine; or three months to be consumed before thy foes, while the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of Jehovah, even pestilence in the land, and the angel of Jehovah destroying throughout all the borders of Israel. Now therefore consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me. |
| 13 | David dit à Gad : "Je suis dans une cruelle angoisse. Ah! que je tombe entre les mains de Yahweh, car ses miséricordes sont très grandes, et que je ne tombe pas entre les mains des hommes!" | And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let me fall, I pray, into the hand of Jehovah; for very great are his mercies: and let me not fall into the hand of man. |
| 14 | Et Yahweh envoya une peste en Israël, et il tomba soixante-dix mille hommes en Israël. | So Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel; and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men. |
| 15 | Et Dieu envoya un ange à Jérusalem pour la détruire; et pendant qu'il détruisait, Yahweh vit et se repentit de ce mal, et il dit à l'ange qui détruisait : "Assez! retire maintenant ta main."L'ange de Yahweh se tenait près de l'aire d'Ornan, le Jésubéen. | And God sent an angel unto Jerusalem to destroy it: and as he was about to destroy, Jehovah beheld, and he repented him of the evil, and said to the destroying angel, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was standing by the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. |
| 16 | David, ayant levé les yeux, vit l'ange de Yahweh se tenant entre la terre et le ciel, et ayant à la main son épée nue, tournée contre Jérusalem. Alors David et les anciens, couverts de sacs, tombèrent sur leur visage. | And David lifted up his eyes, and saw the angel of Jehovah standing between earth and heaven, having a drawn sword in his hand stretched out over Jerusalem. Then David and the elders, clothed in sackcloth, fell upon their faces. |
| 17 | Et David dit à Dieu : "N'est-ce pas moi qui ai dit de faire le dénombrement du peuple ? C'est moi qui ai péché et qui ai fait le mal; mais celles-là, ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait ? Yahweh, mon Dieu, que votre main soit donc sur moi et sur la maison de mon père, mais non sur votre peuple pour sa ruine." | And David said unto God, Is it not I that commanded the people to be numbered? even I it is that have sinned and done very wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, O Jehovah my God, be against me, and against my father`s house; but not against thy people, that they should be plagued. |
| 18 | L'ange de Yahweh ordonna à Gad de dire à David de monter pour élever un autel à Yahweh sur l'aire d'Ornan, le Jébuséen. | Then the angel of Jehovah commanded Gad to say to David, that David should go up, and rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite. |
| 19 | David monta, selon la parole de Gad qu'il avait dite au nom de Yahweh. | And David went up at the saying of Gad, which he spake in the name of Jehovah. |
| 20 | Ornan, s'étant retourné, vit l'ange, et il se cacha, lui et ses quatre fils : Ornan battait alors du froment. | And Ornan turned back, and saw the angel; and his four sons that were with him hid themselves. Now Ornan was threshing wheat. |
| 21 | Lorsque David arriva auprès d'Ornan, Ornan regarda et il aperçut. David; sortant aussitôt de l'aire, il se prosterna devant David, le visage contre terre. | And as David came to Ornan, Ornan looked and saw David, and went out of the threshing-floor, and bowed himself to David with his face to the ground. |
| 22 | David dit à Ornan : "Cède-moi l'emplacement de l'aire, et j'y bâtirai un autel à Yahweh; cède-le-moi pour sa pleine valeur en argent, pour que la plaie se retire de dessus le peuple." | Then David said to Ornan, Give me the place of this threshing-floor, that I may build thereon an altar unto Jehovah: for the full price shalt thou give it me, that the plague may be stayed from the people. |
| 23 | Ornan dit à David : "Prends-le, et que mon seigneur le roi fasse ce qu'il trouvera bon. Vois, je donne les boeufs pour l'holocauste, les traîneaux pour le bois, et le froment pour l'oblation; je donne tout cela." | And Ornan said unto David, Take it to thee, and let my lord the king do that which is good in his eyes: lo, I give [thee] the oxen for burnt-offerings, and the threshing instruments for wood, and the wheat for the meal-offering; I give it all. |
| 24 | Mais le roi David dit à Ornan : "Non! Mais je veux l'acheter contre sa pleine valeur en argent, car je ne prendrai pas ce qui est à toi pour Yahweh, et je n'offrirai pas un holocauste qui ne me coûte rien." | And king David said to Ornan, Nay; but I will verily buy it for the full price: for I will not take that which is thine for Jehovah, nor offer a burnt-offering without cost. |
| 25 | David donna à Ornan un poids de six cents sicles d'or pour l'emplacement. | So David gave to Ornan for the place six hundred shekels of gold by weight. |
| 26 | Et David bâtit là un autel à Yahweh, et offrit des holocaustes et des sacrifices pacifiques. Il cria vers Yahweh, et Yahweh lui répondit par le feu qui descendit du ciel sur l'autel de l'holocauste. | And David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings, and called upon Jehovah; and he answered him from heaven by fire upon the altar of burnt-offering. |
| 27 | Et Yahweh parla à l'ange, et celui-ci remit son épée dans le fourreau. | And Jehovah commanded the angel; and he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof. |
| 28 | En ce temps-là, David, voyant que Yahweh l'avait exaucé dans l'aire d'Ornan, le Jébuséen, y offrait des sacrifices. | At that time, when David saw that Jehovah had answered him in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite, then he sacrificed there. |
| 29 | Le tabernacle de Yahweh, que Moïse avait construit au désert, et l'autel des holocaustes étaient en ce temps-là sur le haut lieu de Gabaon. | For the tabernacle of Jehovah, which Moses made in the wilderness, and the altar of burnt-offering, were at that time in the high place at Gibeon. |
| 30 | Mais David ne pouvait pas aller devant cet autel pour honorer Dieu, parce qu'il avait été terrifié par l'épée de l'ange de Yahweh. | But David could not go before it to inquire of God; for he was afraid because of the sword of the angel of Jehovah. |
